Shine and Rise Farm and Food Forest

This was wonderful. All around. Jay is an incredible host. He is easy to get along with and very accommodating. The campsites are beautiful, acres apart from each other it’s about as private as you can get. Very safe and welcoming. Highly recommend.

It was a wonderful site, and we are very thankful full Jay was able to meet us even though we were a bit late. our site had the party lights and power which was a big help. Surrounded by a forest of oh-so-tall trees. A sight for sore eyes for this central Texas couple.

This farm and property were lovely and well set up and maintained. Jay and his family were wonderful. They let us see their goslings and recommended the best beach area for our family to explore. (Savage Neck Dunes State Natural Area - a perfect half mile hike to a cool beach area with lots of drift wood trees my kids liked exploring.) We definitely recommend camping here!

Jay's place is great and he's very friendly and welcoming. We felt safe and comfortable with all the amenities he has set up at the camp spot, like electricity if you need it and a big platform to set up camp on (or perform a dance recital haha).

We pulled in a little later than expected but just before dark - he met us on the road and took us to the spot - it's got a fantastic fire pit and Jay has wood available (which I'd always recommend since you don't want to take wood from other forests, it's always a risk to transfer foreign bugs to a new ecosystem.)

The fireflies were an amazing show and we walked a little trail after the rain cleared up in the morning, but we didn't make it to tour his farm (we'll be back and looking forward to it!) We roasted some of his delicious yellow squash for dinner over the fire and it was super tasty. Thanks, Jay!

Very private site in a stand of oaks with no sights or sounds of people, near a back road but very little traffic. About 20 minute drive to a nature preserve on the Bay with a nice stretch of beach. Theory and policy meets practice at the working farm where there's lots to learn about sustainable agriculture.

Quiet, secluded campsite. And host was very responsive once we arrived for our trip. Lovely stay with fireflies and gorgeous stars made brighter by the darkness of the area.

We loved the farm tour and fresh farm eggs! Would definitely go back again to camp! So amazing and exciting what they are doing with the land.

We loved camping at Shine and Rise! It was great waking up hearing turkeys in the morning. We had so much space to spread out and it was totally private. My sons got to explore the woods and make s’mores each night. There were so many fireflies and the stars were amazing. We also really liked the 2 beaches we visited about a half hour away. Having a fresh water source at our site was nice too as we needed to clean off after a hot day at the beach. We would definitely visit again!
