The best part of this stay is its proximity to Shenandoah NP. Brett gave us directions about where to park nearby where you can walk into the park and be directly at the visitor's center. It's also close enough to the grocery store, restaurant, and other conveniences.

The site itself had pros and cons. Pro was that it backs up into the national park and there was a lot of open space to the back. The site itself was maybe a bit small for our 20' camper van since it is the dead end of a road and not much level land but I could see it being better for a tent situation. There is a neighbor nearby who has outdoor dogs that barked a lot throughout the evening and night, but that's not within Brett's control. Brett was really helpful with outlining the hiking nearby and other things to do. There was an abundance of wood and a nice firepit.

Overall, a good choice for us for this particular trip and we enjoyed our two nights.

apparently, people with mixed reviews, recommend it but didn't click the green bar to recommend it to a friend so hipcamp rating system dings me. This camper asked for an exception to park a 20ft Camper Van at the site that is limited to 16ft vehicles, sure no problem, they made it up the mtn roads fine - but said they have cons but don't list any so the noncampers loved the camping site with the RV they rented for the weekend and recommend the site to camp - yet have mixed feelings and stay 2 nights!!!! hipcamp ratings are terrible, if someone leaves a mixed feeling review it means the campsite is great unless they say it isn't.

Very awesome spot to camp, nestled up high in the mountain wilderness, also the host was very helpful. This campsite is a great place, a flat area for your tent and a fire ring at the end of a road next to the Shenandoah national park. It's everything you could want in a primitive campsite, a place to pitch your tent and get a good night rest, what is there to complain about if you are a camper. Everything else like the diner, the hikes into the park from tanner ridge road which you can access from this campsite are beyond fantastic. Please leave this site open for people who like animals and appreciate a nice spot to camp and enjoy the wilderness.

The site was exactly what we needed. A place to stay for the night with a fire ring and a level road (Two slept in the back of our car and one in a hammock.) To explain a couple of the other reviews. You do pass right by the neighbors house, and the dogs will bark when you pass. BUT the neighbor was not bothered by us and the dogs stopped as soon as we were out of sight. I would recommend getting there before dark and backing into the sight if you use the back of your car to load and unload, or you can pull past the fire ring. but either way, expect to either back in, or back out. I do want to stress that as soon as the sun is down and your fire is going, you forget that you ever passed the neighbors house.

The bath house!!!!! Apparently the bath house closes at some point during the winter, but it hasn't yet. Try the code, it worked for us. HOT showers, clean and cute. It's not exactly close to the camp sight, maybe 1/4mi. but we stopped on our way in and on our way out and it was nicer than most campground bath houses. Plan to do your business in the woods at night though and leave no trace. It's not really a 1am. walk I'd want to do.

The host was awesome, reaching out two days before, sending maps, and answering questions. I hope I haven't overexplained, but if it keeps someone from booking and having a bad experience, I think it's worth it to keep the site available for people knowing what to expect from a primitive site.

Also, the Hawksbill Diner has great food too!

Great camping spot! We didn't have any trouble finding the location. We didn't use the bathhouse down the road, we just did our business in the woods, so I can't speak to that part of it.

A little hidden gem! This was a great place to camp, I stayed for 3 nights and it was just what I needed! Tucked away on the edges of a private community, the world kind of becomes your oyster. There is a camping spot that is nice and flat for a tent, a fire ring, and a small charcoal grill. Up the hill there is a small open field where you could also camp. I would walk up there in the morning and there was always a beautiful family of deer. The neighbors do have dogs that bark, but they only barked when I walked or drove by - then once I was back where my tent was they would stop. I didn’t mind them. There is a community bathroom a little over a half mile walk down the road. They do a great job at maintaining the bathroom, so I just made sure to always keep it clean when I left. Took a few nice hot showers, and was able to continue filling up my water bottles.

You’re so close to SNP, and there is a way to hike into the AT from the campsite. I didn’t do that, but if you look at a map there is a way to figure it out. Otherwise you’re about 45mins to the park entrance.

Brett was super kind, informative, and quick to respond to any of my questions! I will definitely be camping here again! The area is gorgeous.

We had a lovely overnight at the campsite. The weather was perfect and the plot is in a slightly secluded space in the woods. It backs up into Shenandoah and looked just as it did in the pictures except for a house and a couple sheds that are visible from the campsite were not pictured. There are also dogs kept outside in a cage (not visible). The Hipcamp owner informed us about the dogs the night before, but I didn’t expect the house to be visible from the campsite (this is the only reason for the mixed feeling review, I’d still recommend this campsite). The dogs barked when the resident would come home and upon our arrival but we’re quiet otherwise.

Overall it was a great overnight and a convenient and beautiful spot outside the park. The host was very friendly, accommodating and informative. Would recommend! Remember to download a map of the community before arriving because there cell service is spotty.

Really enjoyed the weekend. The host is helpful in offering directions and tips. We arrived at dark and stayed in the lower area, a solid spot to camp and cook but isn’t big. Neighbors dogs bark down there, but settle down after a bit. If you have four wheel drive, getting up to the top area is ideal. It’s mostly on a hill, but a great secluded area to have dogs off leash. Short drive to the National park for good hikes. Beautiful area to drive and explore.
