Cozy up by the campfire right on the bank of an exceptionally deep, clear pool in Craig's Creek, nestled in hardwood forest at the base of a huge stone cliff.

About the Property

Just off the Appalachian tail, five minutes from Dragon's Tooth trailhead and 10 minutes from McAfee's Knob, you'll be able to find plenty of hiking and nature to take in. Swimming or tubing right at your campsite is a great way to spend a summer afternoon. TONS of killer single-track mountain biking around the area, including some trails on our property.  Our valley is paradise for road cyclists as well.

We're located ~35 minutes from downtown Roanoke and ~45 minutes from Blacksburg.

About the listing

Along the creek bank next to a large, deep swimming hole underneath a formidable cliff face, pitch your tent or sling your hammock in a beautiful clearing carved out of the mature hardwood forest. In a raised flood plain, the soil is soft and sandy. There's a rock washout just a few feet away where you can park your car for easy access (not accessible in especially wet weather). Views back up through the woods reveal views of the valley and mountain beyond, or venture deeper into the woods to discover native flora and fauna. This campsite is periodically closed during high water events (though if you catch the rains just right, you'll enjoy a tall waterfall cascading into the creek just feet from the site).

Well-behaved dogs and other pets are always welcome, but please keep them under close supervision.

Always a good time at Ned's place! Absolutely beautiful scenery equipped with anything you need for a camping adventure ✌️ Perfect friendly environment for humans and their pup friends! If your spirit and your pup companions radiate opposition, as opposed to love and respect, this might not be the place for you! My personal experience has been nothing but positive ❤️💛🧡💚💙💜

This camping spot is phenomenal!!! We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful and gorgeous surroundings; the creek, the shale mountain, the serenity were so unique that we feel lucky to have spent a couple days here! We highly recommend this to other nature enthusiasts, as it was a rare and incredible find! We are so appreciative to the hosts for sharing their beautiful land with us! Additionally, the directions and details were thorough and so helpful. Thank you for an amazing experience!!

This site is beautiful - forest, river, sheer rock cliff across the water. We arrived in the evening and never got to meet the hosts, but the directions were very clear and we found everything easily. Fell asleep to the sound of the river and enjoyed a morning swim with the children.

Ned is one of the most hospitable hosts we have had. The property is also amazing with a place for you to go swimming, and super close to great hikes such as Mcaffee Knob.

What a great spot. Nice quiet field next to a stream that is excellent for cooling off. Ted was super friendly and helpful. Beautiful fireflies and a full moon rising over the steep hill in the back. Whippoorwill singing all around us. Definitely recommend

Ned’s camping spot was the perfect place to spend an extended Memorial Day weekend. It’s a beautiful, tranquil spot down next to a large creek and a nice small cliff. Plenty to do close to the camp spot (about 10 minutes to McAffee’s Knob trailhead), and just as nice to relax and enjoy the spot.
