Cozy up by the campfire right on the bank of an exceptionally deep, clear pool in Craig's Creek, nestled in hardwood forest at the base of a huge stone cliff.

About the Property

Just off the Appalachian tail, five minutes from Dragon's Tooth trailhead and 10 minutes from McAfee's Knob, you'll be able to find plenty of hiking and nature to take in. Swimming or tubing right at your campsite is a great way to spend a summer afternoon. TONS of killer single-track mountain biking around the area, including some trails on our property.  Our valley is paradise for road cyclists as well.

We're located ~35 minutes from downtown Roanoke and ~45 minutes from Blacksburg.

About the listing

Along the creek bank next to a large, deep swimming hole underneath a formidable cliff face, pitch your tent or sling your hammock in a beautiful clearing carved out of the mature hardwood forest. In a raised flood plain, the soil is soft and sandy. There's a rock washout just a few feet away where you can park your car for easy access (not accessible in especially wet weather). Views back up through the woods reveal views of the valley and mountain beyond, or venture deeper into the woods to discover native flora and fauna. This campsite is periodically closed during high water events (though if you catch the rains just right, you'll enjoy a tall waterfall cascading into the creek just feet from the site).

Well-behaved dogs and other pets are always welcome, but please keep them under close supervision.

favorite stay of our trip. hands down.

saw the pics of someone’s teardrop camper towed into the actual campsite so figured we would be able to manage a single axle 12 foot utility/landscape trailer behind our full length chevy van. made absolute sure to get out on foot and walk to the campsite to make sure we could manage. worth noting that ned was more than glad to have us leave the trailer and car unhooked up in the larger main field, i was just feeling confident and adventurous haha.

while doable, it’s not recommended for the faint of heart or anyone lacking 4wd/towing experience. our van is lifted with off-road tires, but it’s 2wd so if it had rained or been full of mud, we certainly would’ve gotten stuck trying to leave in the morning.

it took some fine finagling and a spotter to back me up but we were able to nose into the campsite’s general area, back the van and trailer into a specific nook and flip the whole rig back facing towards the exit so we could unhook the trailer facing the right direction. after that juggle we were easily able to get the van into the immediate camp area without much more than a 3-4 point k turn. sorry for the long winded explanation of that but it should help you car/suv and trailer folk get a solid idea of what you’re getting into.

the campsite itself was the perfect layout. clean, spacious, and a literal stones throw away from the swimming hole. we can’t wait to come back and give ned’s place a proper 3-4 day stay.

This was a wonderful site, with great hosts! The site is gorgeous, with plenty of space and a good level of privacy. The hosts were there when we needed them, but we're not at all intrusive.

Our only complaint was that one of the days, some of the neighbors decided to practice with their firearms, and it sounded like explosive targets. This wouldn't have been an issue for many, or even for us, if we didn't have gun-shy dogs. Not a problem with the site, just a possibility to be aware of.

It is clear that the hosts care about their sites, and it made for an excellent camping weekend. Thanks!

Peaceful campsite on Ned’s private property. He has 3 separate campsites. Creekside woods is just as it sounds. Right on a creek in the woods. It is picturesque. Traveled as a solo female with my dog and felt very safe. Would definitely book again if I was in the area.
