Be in the middle of peaceful acreage and just a scenic ride on 460 from Virginia Beach, 1 hour, Williamsburg - Jamestown Ferry, 20 minutes

Spend the day touring Williamsburg, Virginia Beach and then take a free ferry ride and enjoy camping at the Thornton farm. The farm is a manicured property that's secure and peaceful. We're just 5 miles away from Wakefield, so enjoy breakfast at the infamous Virginia Diner or pickup a few road snacks from Adam's Peanuts. The Farm's my favorite spot but don't take my word, come camp and check it out for yourself.

During a dreary rainy muggy weekend the bright spot was Marvin and his hidden gem. It was quiet, solitary and hospitable. He met us on arrival and made it clear he takes pride hosting Hipcampers. He keeps just a few spots on this big property so you truly have privacy and quiet. Shower, toilet, firewood and a big dark sky at night. We’ll be back. Guaranteed.

My partner and I had a very relaxing time on Marvin's land. The amenities and space were perfect for what we needed. Loved the bathroom/shower/sink area! We drove down to virgina beach for a couple of hours and it was fun but exhausting. It was nice to come back to a quiet area. The fire pit was awesome and had a couple of dinners made. We also enjoyed exploring in the woods and the property! Bring bugspray. It wasn't that bad but felt it the itches on our way back home.

Marvin was very receptive and communicative up until and when arriving at Thornton Farms. We were greeted with clean umbrella and he edged up the field so we could have more shade on this unusually hot day with 2mph winds.

We had the ability to select from any site since there were no other campers which was nice. The restrooms were immaculate and the shower was an added benefit however I can see if the campsites were full, there would be an issues changing without flashing someone. There is an updated glamping cabin which is pet free and beautiful.
The portable water is located in between the community bathroom and the shower so I would suggest bringing an insulated container of sorts. We also brought 100% deet as suggested, but were eaten alive, however, it was worth it for time away in the woods without restrictions!! We were also given wood ($5.00/bundle cash) and fluid to start a fire which was amazing! Marvin leant us a few utensils for grilling, but we brought most of our own to use!

Our dog had a great time! The sites are within viewing distance of each other, with the exception of one. There is a bright light on the premise which we parked out truck directly in front of the tent in order to block out the light. However I can see that the farm would need that for safety reasons to get to the bathroom. The farm a few houses down had some hunting dogs that barked a lot, this was only a minor issue for us because our pup wanted to investigate and we did not!

Give it a whirl, you will enjoy it! Our only advice, provide an aerial view of camping sites. By the way, they have added a few smokers so bring some meat! Yum!

Marvin Treated us like a his family member, serving us like serving a King. We felt warm and touched by his serving heart, mind, smiling, and action. Such as Greeting us at "door" , we had a good hug for our expecting each other, letting us to freely choose our favorite site spot, set up firewood making us feel the beauty, taking care of firing woods four and five times, frequently asking us if anything else we might need his help..... Following morning, when we found we lost our lighter for the gas stove, he helped us to borrow one. It's hard to believe a former 45-year and well-built police officer still keeps spirit of servings. We do appreciated the Lord to prepare Marvin to us. 100% recommend Marvin!

This was easily the best paid camping experience I've ever done. It's secluded, peaceful, beautiful, and full sights to see while still having necessary amenities. Marvin is a fantastic host, ensuring we had what we needed and being friendly at every step of our 4 day stay. There isn't enough good I could say about this place. Seriously, just check it out.
