Enjoy complete serenity on 95 acres that's only 25 minutes from downtown Charlottesville. Lower Sherwood Farm is a privately-owned working llama farm with rolling pastures and glimpses of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Pitch your tent in our hay fields, and enjoy access to our three-season show barn with bathroom, and hot and cold running water available from our well.

Hike with our llamas, or bring your own horses and walk on our wooded trails (llama hikes and horse stalls are available at extra charge - just ask).

Be prepared for big sky!  If you're lucky, you'll get a cloud-free night with virtually no light pollution. Great stargazing!

Scottsville (and the James River) and Monticello are 15 minutes away; The University of Virginia, and downtown Charlottesville are 25 minutes; Wintergreen Resort is an hour away.

Lots of great wineries, cideries and breweries within 15 minutes.

The perfect location for a fun family outing or a romantic getaway.

Each site offers something special or may have restrictions. Please read the following descriptions before making your choice. If you are not sure which site to book, please ask.

Site 1. This site sits next to our larger pond and under a beautiful maple tree. The view across the pond sweeps across our crop field and offers a great spot to watch the sun rise. If you're lucky, you catch a glimpse of the resident otters.  Hammocks may be hung from the stronger limbs.  Please take care not to damage the tree. Larger RVs are not permitted at this site. Small tow campers are fine.

Site 2 and Site 3. If star gazing is what you seek, these two sites are your best options (although there's no bad spot). They're located on the top of our open hay field with no trees. There is full access to big sky with little light pollution. Due to the lack of trees, these sites can be quite hot in mid-summer. Bring adequate shade with you.  Site 2 overlooks the larger pond. Site 3 is located closer to the barn. In late May, you'll be surrounded by fireflies.  Larger RVs are not permitted at this site. Small tow campers are fine.

Site 4. Located next to the show barn, this site has the closest access to water and the restroom and is the only site that has power available. There is plenty of space for larger groups with multiple tents. The ground is fairly level.  If you are traveling in an RV, fifth wheel or tow-behind camper and require access to electricity, book this spot. Be sure to have at least 50' of cord to access our 30 amp hook up. There's also access to a 110V outlets.

* If you are booking multiple sites but would like to camp together, choose from 2, 3 and 4. These three locations can accommodate two to three camps sites together.

Site 5. This location has restrictions. Due to the close proximity to our llama pasture, we do not permit children or dogs at this site.  It is a quiet spot with trees and a open view of our llamas when they're grazing. Hammocks can be hung here. It is the furthest from the bathroom and other campers. RVs are not permitted in the location. Small campers are fine.

We had a wonderful time! I never knew how much I enjoyed llamas! We had a blast hanging out with the llamas during feeding time and our wonderful llama walk. Paige and Steven were great about answering questions ( llama related and otherwise) and we’re always quick to respond to messages. Crayton was a helpful host also and fun to talk to. The campsites were spacious, grassy, level, and spread way apart. We couldn’t see any campsites from ours. We loved just soaking in the atmosphere and watching the rise and set and seeing billions of stars. Highly recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Lower Sherwood Llama farm! Beautiful setting and farm, and oh the sky! We camped on site #4 by the barn so we could hook up our Aliner to electric, and it was nice having the bathroom & access to potable water so close. Its a very open site (no cover of trees), but we could sit in the shade in the open air barn to escape the heat if we wanted. The Llama hike was a blast, we all loved our personal llama companions! And it was very interesting to learn about the farm and llamas. We also enjoyed fishing and looking for frogs around the pond, and just walking the mowed paths through the fields and into the woods. Also visited the nearby dog-friendly Mount Ida Reserve winery\brewery, which had amazing views. Paige and Steven were great hosts, very responsive and helpful, even lending us a longer extension cord so we could hook up to electric. Will definitely return!

This was such a wonderful little spot to camp for the evening, and the cherry on top was meeting all of the friendly faces here- humans and animals alike! Our hosts were so accommodating, and everything was so easily accessible. We had so much fun touring the llama barn, and really appreciated how thoughtful and informative Paige was throughout, will definitely be back!

We loved the Llama Farrm! We took our two kids - 2 & 4 and they had a blast. They really loved meeting the animals on the farm and getting feed and pet them. We stayed near the barn and while the easy access to the bathroom was nice, a bit more shade would've been nice for the warm day. Overall a wonderful experience!

Beautiful setting with panoramic views. Perfect spot to tent camp or boondock with the convenience of a clean bathroom within a short stroll. Paige was extremely responsive and offered a warm welcome upon arrival. Excellent basecamp for visiting nearby wineries and breweries between Scottsville and Charlottesville.

Awesome stay! Paige and Steven are very communicative and were extremely knowledgeable and patient with our (incessant) llama questions. Each camping spot has tons of space and is secluded from the others. Wish we had a longer stay!
