Absolutely beautiful camping spot in a field adjacent to the river. A small dock offers easy access to the river while the host provides ample amenities including a covered area with a picnic table, 2 charcoal ready grills, a spotless portapotty, and a fire pit. The host provided a pile of fresh wood that was more than enough to keep our fire going all night. Some of the best camping I've had in Virginia, we hope to return soon. Thanks for letting us come visit and enjoy the river for the day!
This place was great. It is somewhat private. There is a train that comes through at various times during the day and at night! It didn't bither2us one bit. The host was great and very friendly and helpful. If you are going with intentions of fishing from the dock be warned you will get hung up! You can do top water or float fish but if you bottom fish plan on losing a bunch of hooks! If you plan on fishing and being successful I would take a boat out or a Kayak. Our 2 dogs had a blast while we were there.
Best place ,river edge- near vt
Jennifers place on the new river near Blacksburg Virginia was the best rustic, beautiful, serene, and well-maintained property one could ask for, with a sundeck, river access, swing and picnic table with awning we were very comfortable hip campers in our self contained camper van. There was no water or electric ass advertised but there was so much more. A true cultural understanding of the area and the river and Jennifer and Donnie shared so much knowledge of the watershed, birds, animals, words, and other facts about the area. We enjoyed their garden and Tasted a few fresh vegetables. It was a marvelous experience
We had a great camping trip this past weekend! The camp site was perfect for all of us and very level for an easy nights rest in a sleeping bag. They have added a few great things since our last camp trip, the tent over the tables and the porta potty were a nice additions to the campsite. Jennifer is great and always super helpful. Can’t wait for our trip next year!
Heaven on earth
What was it like staying here? Heaven on earth ! Jennifer and her hubby could not have been any nicer or easy going. Not only did I find a beautiful place to stay but a couple new friends. This a Five Star camp !!
River adventure with a train twist!
We had a wonderful time at Camp The New River. We camped with another family and had small kids (ages 10 months - 6YO) with us. There was ample room to explore and run on the property, covered picnic tables, fire pit, grill, recently serviced porta-potty and the greatest feature of all... the RIVER with a dock and rope swing! The kids slept HARD after wearing themselves out and didn't even notice the train that passed by in the night. The train is pretty loud, but honestly, it was another highlight of our stay!
The drive in is no-joke steep with some sections of road being gravel. I have front wheel drive only and had to gun it to get out, but it was all part of the adventure.
The hosts were SO gracious and welcoming. The kids had an amazing time. We had an amazing time. We left late on our departure day after talking with the hosts and hearing no one was expected that afternoon. They invited us to stay late and "enjoy the entire day!" That, we did. We will be coming back.
