The Appalachian Trail crosses VA620 .6 miles North of Gittn' Pickled. Other Appalachian Trail features such as Mcafee's Knob, Dragon's Tooth, Audie Murphy Memorial and Tinker Cliffs are just minutes away by motor vehicle. This is an awesome location to hook up with a significant other, family, or friends who are  hiking the Appalachian Trail to take a Zero day or two, or three.

Miller Cove, within the Jefferson National Forest, is an area that was once occupied by a small community. You will find foundations of old structures, springs, creeks, orchards, mushrooms, ramps and much more. Miller Cove can be accessed directly from the site.  It can be an especially interesting and pleasant hike without the inconvenience of shuttles and parking.

Pickles Branch terminates into Trout Creek here. Pickles Branch is a beautiful stream in a cool and richly forested terrain. All of the Miller Cove ground water empties into Pickle's Branch which can become very impressive during high water events.

Shuttles for hiking and paddling can be provided by the Host and are also locally available.  Contact information is provided on site.

Two bunkbeds are provided with four twin long (35x80) mattresses.  These are hospital bed mattresses with non-permeable covers.  Four standard size pillows with non-permeable covers are also provided.  You should bring additional bedding as desired; sheets, blankets, pillowcases.

This was a perfect getaway for me and my Grandson. The Bunkhouse had everything we needed, and more! The shower is on demand, laundry and outdoor privy. Everything was clean and working well.

Doug was a wonderful, thoughtful host that made sure the water was hot and even came in an emergency to jump start our car. The land and creek were beautiful. A peaceful relaxing time near the Appalachian Trail

Gettn' Pickled cabin was amazing. Very relaxing and lots of wildlife. Doug was a phenomenal host. He came down and showed us around the cabin and pointed out where everything is and how to reach him if needed and then we didn't see him again. He didn't hover or intrude.

The cabin has all the amenities of home and was a perfect get away. It is within walking distance to the trail head and there is a rushing creek just across the street. The fire pit and outdoor fire oven were perfect for relaxing or cooking. But if that isn't your style, there is a gas eyelit in the cabin. Wood and gas are provided however there is a donation box to give money if you use the wood provided. I never got the feeling it was mandatory, but the right thing to do.

There is a washer/dryer as well as a hot shower. There are 4 bunks and a refrigerator. It was PERFECT!
I want to thank Doug for offering this gem to the public to use.
