All of our campsites are fantastic but the hilltop campsite in Baber Pasture is the BEST on the property. It's private, has breath-taking mountain views and sunsets and a permanent firepit. There's plenty of space for multiple tents and cars.
The Baber family settled the farm in the late 1800s and this spot gives you access to their small family cemetery. James and Sallie saw the beauty in this land and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for creating this special place.

We love the beauty and spirit of our farm so much that we want to share it with people who appreciate a peaceful vibe. You'll find that we are very relaxed and inclusive and welcome guests to enjoy the farm for all it has to offer. Spend as much time with the animals as you'd like - many free range so they'll visit you. Enjoy our private beach on the James River (with a fire pit), inflatable tubes and rafts are available at no extra charge.
We're located in historic Scottsville Virginia (the heart of Virginia’s Monticello Wine Region). Seated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the 25 acre farm is home to many domestic, farm and wild animals. The lush green rolling pastures offer exquisite views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and direct access to the James River. It truly is a serene private paradise.
Our focus at the farm is two-fold. Promote agro-ecotourism and support our sister non-profit, Gentle Moon Conservancy. The mission of Gentle Moon is to provide lifetime care and shelter for animals in-need and inspire environmental stewardship through the power of individual action.
We are a working farm and have livestock guardian dogs who free roam guarding the farm. River, Ben, Daisy and PB are very friendly and will likely greet you when you first get here. They work at night so don’t be surprised if you hear them sounding off in the shadows protecting the farm from critters.
We sell firewood but guests are welcome to bring their own or collect the fallen dead limbs in the woods around the campsite.
Safety and privacy is very important to us. We require a minimum of 50 feet between each campsite. The farm gate is locked overnight and reopened early in the morning. We will provide guests the gate code if needed. The dogs treat our guests as part of their family and patrol the campsites at night keeping critters away.
Please let us know when you book that you're bringing dog/s. Most of the animals on the farm roam free so you'll be greeted by a few Great Pyrenees (livestock guardian dogs), geese, goats, chickens, turkeys and peacocks. We also have barn cats that like to keep our guests company outside of the tiny house. Please be mindful of this if your dog is uncomfortable with other dogs and animals. Please don't bring your dog/s if they are high-strung, overly sensitive, aggressive, or not trained. Our livestock guardian dogs are hard-wired to protect so if they sense an uncomfortable vibe from another dog, it will make them uncomfortable and they need to be focused on doing their jobs.
Your dogs are welcome to be off-leash as long as they won't chase or harm people or the farm animals.
Please pick up after your dog.

This was a lovely setting with beautiful views, a large open field for the kids to play in, and numerous farm animals to visit. Overall it was a big hit with our kids and we had a nice time.
That said, before booking this site please ponder the impact the dogs will have on your stay. 5+ dogs live on site at this farm. They are friendly, fairly docile with the kids, and for the most part a pleasure to have around if you are a dog-lover like I am. However, they were NOISY at night. I am not a light sleeper, but they woke me and our small children at least 5 times overnight between 1am and 5am with loud repetitive barking directly adjacent to our tent. My son has slept through severe airplane turbulence, a hurricane, and his siblings screaming. I have slept on fire engines with sirens running, and outside in sub-zero temperatures. Neither of us could sleep through the night at this campsite.
The dogs also caused trouble with mealtimes. At least one of the dogs (Shiloh) is not well trained, although she is super sweet. She ate food off my son's plate while it was in his lap, repeatedly raided our S'mores stash as we tried to roast marshmallows, got into our trash can twice even as we yelled and tried to chase her off, and wouldn't move away from our dinner table despite our best efforts.
If not for the dogs destroying our night's sleep and causing chaos around meal times, this would have been a perfect spot. We still had fun, but wish the dogs were better behaved.
We loved our stay at the beautiful place! The hosts were so welcoming, and we loved meeting their animals. The mountain view is spectacular and the sunset was perfect. We can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful spot! The farm is great, and we respect the work they do. Katie was very responsive and quick to answer any questions. The animals are very friendly and wander around the property. The big working dogs keeping watch over the animals are very sweet, but be aware they can pop up at any time. They happened to spook our dogs a few times appearing out of nowhere. Not a negative, they are doing their jobs. Just mentioning in case you bring your pets with you. We felt very safe with them around. The river access is also a bonus. We will definitely be back and be prepared to enjoy the river next time.

Love Lives Here is wonderful. Located on a beautiful farm, it was peaceful and quiet. Well, except for the animal noise, but what can you expect on a farm full of friendly critters. Our hosts were so nice and very accommodating. We waited nearly two years to visit and I am ready to go back.
This was our second time staying (already booking a 3rd) and our 14 and 16 year old said their favorite place ever we have camped. Thank you Jen for letting the boys help on the farm. We still haven’t heard the end of it.
Out of all of the places we have camped. The Best Spot on the Farm has been our favorite. We are already booked to go back next weekend.
Katie and Jen are amazing hosts and welcomed us to visit the farm (which we did multiple times). The views are breathtaking, and such a relaxing environment. Cannot wait to return.

Awesome place to stay. Enjoy the beautiful farm living as a weekend getaway, hosts make you feel at home. Kids love playing with the dogs and farm animals. We continue going back.
We had a wonderful time at Valhalla Mountain Farm on the best spot on the farm. We enjoyed the Pyrenees dogs who visited often. They are such gentle giants. We enjoyed walking around the property, visiting with the many animals. Jen and Katie were wonderful hosts! The farm is absolutely heaven on earth! We will be back!

Beautiful and quaint. Highly recommend for your city getaway!
