Easily the best!
This is site is easily a contender for best Hipcamp in the mid Atlantic. Eric was responsive, hospitable and truly excited to see our large group enjoy his land. The pond kept the kids entertained throughout our stay, and the beauty of the surrounding mountains is hard to beat. We have been to numerous Hipcamps through the last year and each seem to have a downside that is not described in the listing. Not here, there is nothing I would change about this site. Thank you Eric for a memorable visit and we are already looking forward to our next visit.
Our own personal paradise!!!!
This was seriously one of the best experiences ever. This is officially my new go-to spot for family and friend gatherings. It was so perfect.
We could not have been more secluded, sleeping in what felt like our own personal forest. We slept just 20 feet from to Passage Creek and could hear the babbling brook all night long. That combined with the crackling of the campfire and the strange and awesome sounds of nature all around us, we were in heaven.
In a quick thirty second walk to the lake, we were suddenly in open fields, basking in the sun and hanging out by the long dock. We went canoeing, kayaking, fishing (even caught a couple!), swimming, and hiking. Amazing. Our dog loved the water and couldn’t get enough!
Apparently there was another group of people camping on the other side of the lake, but with such open space combined with personal campsite seclusion, we didn’t even see them!
The hosts could not have been more responsive and helpful, and it’s the little things and the small touches that really brought it up to the next level. They left a hand crafted laminated map of the property, and even had a little goodie bag waiting! With that map, we were able to take full advantage of all the property had to offer.
You could tell they took pride in their property too - it was so well kept, clean and just gorgeous. Like a small paradise just for our own. The landscape was spectacular, with different trees and flowers that we had a blast identifying.
They even had planted flowers to pretty up the well designed and cleverly hidden portajohn. It was easily accessible, but you wouldn’t even know it was there with all the pretty flowers and hand crafted wall around it! I mean, even that was pretty and well maintained!
I’ll be going here again for sure. I cannot wait to come back!!! Thanks to the hosts for even making a place like this available.
There were so many things we could have done off property, like hiking, museums, and the Shenandoah River, but once we were there, we realized we never wanted to leave! Maybe we’ll try to venture off paradise on our next visit!!
Perfect dc escape
Perfect retreat from the stress of DC. Not too far from the city, but surprisingly secluded. The grounds are extraordinarily well kept, the campsites are clear and generously spaced apart, and the host was very welcoming. If you like bass fishing, this is a great spot, the lake is teeming with fish and frogs. Numerous boats/kayaks are available on site. Great star gazing as well. Again, if you're looking for a quiet getaway in the Shenandoah area, this is great option.
Great large group camp site!
Creekside was awesome!!!, especially for a large group. Lots of space to spread out, plenty of shade, Passage Creek and the pond kept the kids busy and provide great fishing options. The owners were out and about and were really friendly and accommodating. Would absolutely go back!
Note: Don't forget the tick spray and Technu for poison ivy. Noting the campsite can do about it, just Virginia in summer.
Amazing place to stay. The lake had tons of fish and the stream about a mile away from the property was stocked with trout. Awesome scenery as you are in the valley and can see everything around you. Would definitely stay again!
