We had a great time camping overnight at James's place. Communication was clear and helpful, and when we arrived we had the option of staying in the shelter or further down toward the river in a campsite. We opted for the campsite and it was so peaceful listening to the water rushing by. There was a nice firepit and some wood, and some benches for our use. The walk to the river was clear and quick and lovely. Make sure you have 4 wheel drive if you plan to drive down to the campsite as there is some steep terrain. We will certainly return on future drives through the area. Thank you!
very beautiful and peaceful property but my favorite part is whether your staying in the shelter or the campsite by the river you can still hear the sound of the river, and with just a short walk down to the river which makes it the perfect spot for some fishing or dipping in the water. even thought i did not get a chance to meet our host but kept in contact with us making sure we were well taking care of.

What a fantastic experience! This cost has two options, a camping shelter and a tradtional tent site. I arrived in a dark and stormy week night and since both were available, opted on the shelter. It was GREAT! In a down pour, I was able to drive within ten feet of the structure which made things quite manageable! The tent campsite is also easily accessed, but if the weather is excessively wet you probably should have 4 wheel drive, or walk in. The shelter is quite close to the entry, the campsite is a fare distance down a farm or field type road access road. The traditional campsite is closet to the river, so if you're planning on kayaking that's helpful!
Perfectly good campsite (we stayed at site 2). It's secluded, has a nice fire pit and good spots to pitch tents. It's a good spot for birding, and there is plenty of hiking nearby or you can hang out by the river in Fries. James is very kind, welcoming, and accommodating.
The only downside is water. It is either a hike up the hill to James's house (he was more than willing to give us a bag full of bottled water) or down the hill and through some brush to the river.
James was an excellent host. The wood shelter shown in the pictures is, however, closer to his house than anticipated. This wasn't a problem, and there is another site further from his house if it was. We were pleasantly surprised by the presence of a mini refrigerator and a lamp in the shelter. We also saw a bald eagle flying over the river!
The host was very welcoming and the view was absolutely stunning from the shelter. It was a quick 10 minute walk down to the river and well worth it. We will definitely stay here again!
The site had a beautiful view of the river. We enjoyed our stay very much. We enjoyed hiking at Grayson Highlands State Park about an hour away and fishing at the river right in town. The site had plenty of room for our tent and a small table to set up a cooking stove. The mini fridge and sink were nice additions that made our stay very convenient. James was a great host and guided us to our camp site when we arrived even though it was around 9 pm. We would enjoy camping here again sometime.
