The Greenhills Tavern started off it's life in the early 1900's and was used as a farm workshop. In the early 2000's, your host Paul decided that he was going to restore it into a workable shed for storage. It then became a 'mens shed'. Then it became a music studio. Finally it morphed into the "Greenhills Tavern", after 15 years of work. Part rustic shack, part log cabin, part retro hideway, it has been restored lovingly, using up-cycled material found from around the farm, and the local area.
Some of the original bush posts still feature as supports in the living area. Pressed tin has been used for the fireplace surrounds, as well as featuring in the kitchen and bathroom areas. The main living area interior walls have been clad with the floor boards of an old barn. The ceiling has been clad with the original corrugated iron that came off the main homestead on the property.
The living area comes complete with an open fireplace, kitchen, dining & bathroom facilities, as well as mod-cons like Wi-Fi, netflix & audio system.
In the bedroom, exposed trusses feature from an old farm shed. The walls have been clad with split pine logs and used lining boards, while the ceiling is a natural timber finish. The exterior cladding of the bedroom is the original corrugated iron off the 'chaff' shed, which used to stand next door to the stable.
Both buildings have been fully insulated, so they are cosy and warm in winter, and cool in summer, with split system air conditioning, gas heating and the open fireplace complimenting the temperature control of the rooms.
The outdoor verandah area consists of a 4 burner BBQ, outdoor bar, (which used to be a counter out of a bank), a chiminea for those cold nights, and an irrigated grassed area with an outdoor setting sitting under a peppercorn tree.
Around the property there are many old historic farm buildings, including an original 'boundary riders' hut (circa 1870's).
The Yarriambiack Creek is the western boundary of the property, and is a haven for birds and wildlife such as kangaroos & wallabies. Ancient river redgums run along the creek which provide for nice shady spots in summer. The creek relies on seasonal rainfall, and when running, is deep enough for swimming or paddling around in a kayak. When dry, the creek bed makes a fantastic walking track.
If you are looking for a unique family holiday, or you are an artist and want to do some songwriting or painting, or just need to get out of the rat race and chill out, then this could be just the place for you.
Please note, the property is 'pet friendly' but we respectfully ask that pets are not taken inside of the accommodation. A kennel is available for pets to use in the grounds of the accommodation.

Loved our stay here. The tavern had so much character to it. Lots of little farm memorabilia all over the place. A great music collection and even some vinyl if you like some old time classic rock.
The indoor open fire place had us all warm and added to the coziness of the place. So much history on this farm and in the area. Beautiful river gums lining the creek and lots of areas you can walk to.
The place is a great gateway to tourist sites in the area like the silo artwork, the Grampians or the wimmera river. Or you could spend a full day just immersed in the beauty of the location on the farm.
Our host Paul was very friendly and helpful and we highly recommend this as a place to stay.
We went with our three little kids and we found the place to be family friendly.

We had everything we needed at Greenhills Tavern. Paul has a great taste in music and has numerous cds to choose from. It is a beautiful property. Found the huge Eagles nest at back corner of property. Picked some mushrooms for breakfast. Close to everything we wanted to visit. Thanks Paul and Keren.

Our whole family had a wonderful time at Greenhills Tavern. The Tavern had everything that we needed and more. The kitchen and bbq area are very well equipped and the lounge is a lovely space to relax. The accomodation is very clean and comfortable. Thanks to Paul for sharing his beautiful property and for being such an exceptional host. Communication with Paul is very easy and efficient.
Paul, Keren and their kids are brilliant hosts. Their property is fantastic for people looking to get off the beaten track. We loved Greenhills Tavern, in particular the open fire. This is a place we are likely to return to in the future.
We found Greenhills Tavern (curiously named because it isn't a tavern) a great spot to stay. Our quarters were a converted shed decked out in a quite rustic manner with a lot of recycled materials that gave it a special warmth.
If you are looking for 5 star, this isnt it, but if you like bush settings, peace and quiet, comfortable accommodation and friendly hosts, this is definitely what you are looking for.
Thanks to Paul we had a great meal at the nearby Dooen Pub (didn't win the meat tray raffle though).
Keren and Paul are very friendly as is Ellie the greyhound who visits regularly for a pat.
Fortunately, Keren and Paul don't require patting.

Noel was a great guest - plenty of laughs and a pleasure to host. Welcome back any time!!

Adam and his crew were heaps of fun to host. They were all very interested in the history of the property and the area, kicked back and relaxed, and left the place spotless, which is all we can really ask. Welcome back any time!!
