EACH OF MY 3 SITES ACCOMMODATE THE SAME AMOUNT OF CAMPERS, AT LEAST 3 TENTS TO EACH SITE.  I'VE ALSO ACQUIRED AN ABUNDANCE OF LAWN FURNITURE: SMALL GRILL TOPS, TABLES & CHAIRS SO EACH SITE WILL HAVE THEIR OWN.  Site #2 is the largest if you are camping with a group of 6 or more.

I am fully vaccinated and looking forward to a great summer & fall.  I plan to be open from May 1st-October 15th, 2021.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you have after reading this Description.

Located in Marshfield/Plainfield, part of Central Vermont, just 20 minutes east of Montpelier, the state capital.

BOOKING TIP:  When you decide to book, the 2nd step will take you to a screen that will show a green map of the 3 campsites that are numbered.  You can click onto the site of your choice, or, just let the program choose for you.  If one of the sites has already been booked by other guests the program won't allow you to choose.  Again, feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.

Consider camping beside the sound of a running brook, a waterfall, 5 (count 'em 5) swimming holes, multiple hiking, walking, biking, running trails through the 700 acres of the public school property behind my house. Only 20 minutes from the state capital of Vermont and 6 minutes from an affordable, local restaurant & bar/pizza place.

SEE HIPCAMP SITE MAP, take the time to look at the site map on this Hipcamp site.  I have 3 camping sites and the individual descriptions below and the map will really help you in deciding which site is best situated for your particular group.

EVEN BEFORE COVID, I DESIGNED MY CAMPSITES WITH DISTANCE BETWEEN THEM FOR MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT AND PRIVACY.  EACH SITE EVEN HAS IT'S OWN PATHWAY!  Yards and yards of space between sites, nothing like state campgrounds.  I've even constructed a "privacy wall" in the middle of the field between sites #2 & #3.

ALSO, AS OF MAY 2021, EACH OF MY 3 SITES  ALL HAVE A PICNIC TABLE AND AT LEAST 3 CHAIRS, AS WELL AS YOUR FIRE PIT, A MOVEABLE GRILL TOP AND YOUR OWN PRIVATE BIO-DEGRADABLE PORTA-POTTY.  EACH SITE WILL ALSO PROVIDE ROOM FOR THE PLACEMENT OF AT LEAST 3 TENTS.

MY FAMILY HAS JUST HELPED ME COMPLETE A 2ND TRAIL THROUGH THE WOODS TO ACCESS THE BACK BROOK AND SWIMMING HOLES WITHOUT THE NEED TO WALK THROUGH CAMPSITE #1.

SITE #1 = TEMPORARY CHANGE:  Site #1 cannot host a vehicle/pop-up/pull along camper for the rest of the season.  Still open for tents.  Temporary block on the driveway access.  "BROOKSIDE" the only one of the 3 camping sites that is a wheelchair accessible site as long as you can navigate the grass.  Also, Site #1 is fine for anyone with a pop-up trailer, or a car or truck to back in and drop of your family member that may need special access.  I am more than willing to move my own personal vehicle so that anyone that needs special access does not have far to navigate and can back straight into site #1 on flat grass with your vehicle.  Site #1 can accommodate at least 2 tents, 3 tents if they are small, or, one or two large family tents.  Great for families and friends.  BE AWARE, this site is in full sight of the back of the house, but far enough away for those in the house NOT to hear you and right next to the trail that feeds into my back yard and has direct access to the 5 surrounding swimming spots and the secret beach and just generally climb around the rocks.  And, I promise you, we'll leave you to your fun.

SITES #2 = WOODLAND is up on a hill with a large communal fire pit.  This site is best suited to family/group/friends.  As many as 4-5 tents (again depending on size) can be set up in this communal group space.  This has been a great site for friends & family who want to gather together from different homes and meet up here for a fun relaxing weekend.   I suggest that larger groups book this site.

SITE #3 = TUCKAWAY is on the farthest end of the hill and again has space for at least 3 tents.  I am working on clearing/leveling ground for a 4th tent space. My guests last summer have told me how much they have valued the great deal of privacy the sites have even from each other.  I have over 100-150+ feet between each site.   Site 3 is also 150 feet from the nearest site and has its own trail/walking path to it.   I give each site their own pathways, again to encourage privacy, Covid safety and less disturbance as campers daily & evening schedules vary.  Each site has it's own fire pit and personal porta-potty for your privacy & comfort.

AMMENITIES IN THE AREA I am also only 6 minutes/6 miles to a fine restaurant, Positive Pie, a local eatery that serves everything; pizza, flatbread, steak, fish, chicken, vegetarian, cocktails and a large selection of IPA beers that Vt is famous for.  Do you want to kayak, paddle board, canoe?  There is a reservoir only minutes away and requires no docking fee!  A recent guest suggested that I add the app "all terrain" to my description.  It is a wonderful site that will direct highly active folks to places to climb, hike, bike, find the highest mountain, the longest trail, etc.  I recommend a short drive out to Owl's Head, a super easy climb with a 180 view of the land on top of small mountain.  It is only 25 minutes away and you will see the signs well before you arrive at the Groton State Forest Park.  There is also the Marshfield General Store just 5 minutes away that is at least 100+ years old and they recently added a home brew alcohol bar selling various rums, liquors, gin, etc.  It also one of the best places for a soft serve creamy.  We also have a great walking, hiking, biking trail just up the street or through the woods.  Our 1-12 public school is within walking distance of my house and has a play ground, more wood trails and may still have their ultimate frisbee equipment as well as work out stations up all summer.

DOGS ARE WELCOME, off leash is fine.  I have been an in home host for 5 years and have never had a dog fight.  I require everyone to add their dog to their human guest head count.  I consider my dog a Katrina rescue, Little Snap, a full member of the family as I'm sure you do.  It is a minimal add on fee for an extra guest, dog or human, lol!  (see below). She loves being a hostess just as much as I do.  Sadly at the age of 17, Little Snap has passed on.  Some of my returning guests enjoyed her as much as I do.

PRICING my pricing is based on my supply costs and online % taken from my net. My sites are well less than the fees collected from the local and state campgrounds  for a site with no platform or lean-to, just a space for a tent and a fire pit.  Plus, I do provide the individual porta-potty and daily replacement bags, and removable grill tops.  I have kindling and dead drop, dry tree wood readily available for free.  I also sell bundles of large, dry cord wood that I use in the winter to heat my Vt home.  They are $10 an armful of 6.

GUEST HEAD COUNT, as you book your reservation, please count/factor in each adult and your children.  This helps me with covering the cost of the bio-disposable porta-potty supplies.  Here is the break down:  2 adults per site @ $49;  additional adults (age 13 and up) = $15 each. Kids 12 and under = count them 2 for 1 extra adult price.  I hope this is helpful.  There has been some confusion over head count.  Please count your dog or dogs as a human when you add up your head count.  I add dogs onto the fees due to insurance issues if anything happens to them or in any interactions with other dogs from another site.

# OF TENT SITES NEEDED: Now that I am spending the spring expanding each of the 3 campsites to house at least 3 tents each, you will no longer have trouble booking a site that suits your needs!

FIRE WOOD, you don't need to pay for firewood.  I have a great deal of dry, dead fall trees & kindling in the woods behind each campsite and on the property.  Bringing a hand saw is helpful.  I keep lots of kindling handy, but can't always cut wood due to my 67 years of age and arthritis.  You are welcome to scrounge the woods for dead drops.  I HAVE JUST ADDED DRY CORD WOOD at $10 a large bundle to my extras.  The dead tree drops from the forest are very dry and sometimes do not burn for long due to aging.  There is certainly plenty of kindling, but if you want a long lasting fire to sit by in the evening, you might want to purchase a bundle.  You can decide when you get here or order in advance.  My bundles are much larger than the little kindling sticks you can get at your local quick stop store.

BIO-DISPOSABLE PORTA-POTTY, I provide one disposable bag per day for every 2 adults.  There has been some confusion as a large family group of 4 adults + 7 children thought each bag was single use.  I supply each guest with a handout explaining their use, but will reiterate the info and disposal when you arrive.  ALL OF THE PORTA-POTTY TENTS ARE WELL AWAY FROM YOUR TENT SITE & TUCKED IN UNDER THE TREES TO KEEP THEM OUT OF THE SUN.

GRILLS & COOKING, if you have a small portable grill it will be helpful.  I do have a supply of small grill tops you can place them on top of the kiln bricks surrounding your small fire pit to cook on.  I would appreciate it if you would wash and scrape them down at the end of your stay.  You can use the hose at the back of the house and just scrub away from the house in the grass.  I will have a couple of wire brushes available for you to do so.   Feel free to bring your own gas or charcoal cooking grills if you have them.

CLEAN, FRESH SPRING WATER FOR YOUR PERSONAL USE.  I have delicious spring water that you are welcome to fill your water bottles with daily.  The hose is right at the back of the house and you can use this for cleaning utensils, etc.

ARIAL VIEW MAP, Hipcamp has an arial view map of my property showing where the 3 campsites are.  I have made up a handout to give you upon arrival of the various swimming holes, the paths in and out, and the grouping of the 3 campsites.  The property map makes the sites clear for you to choose which is best suited for your stay.

FIRE SAFETY:  MOST IMPORTANT -  I have provided each site with a 5 gallon jug of water for use to put out your campfire.  Unfortunately, 3 past guests have taken burnt logs and placed them on dry pine needles in their attempt to put out their fires.  Please help me and the woods stay safe by using this method, thanks.  Search "Leave No Trace" for guidelines online on keeping the outdoors natural.  Thanks!

RESPECT THE SITE, please do not cut down any trees or rearrange fire pits without asking me.  It's a beautiful place and I try to treat it with the utmost respect to nature, to you, and, to me.  Again, search "Leave No Trace" for guidelines.  Thanks!

I am located in Plainfield, Vermont, just 20 minutes from central Vermont and the state capital.  You will take Highway 89 and get off in Montpelier to travel east on Route 2 to arrive here.

Due to Covid restrictions, I am requesting that all campers dispose of the biodegradable waste zipper bags daily into a special canister (which I will show you) and my garbage company will take them away weekly.  Also, I have a recycling bin that I encourage you to use.  Thanks so much, everyone.

We stayed at site #3. There is a very short walk to the site which provides some nice privacy. Make time to explore the brook, it's beautiful.

Thanks for making the trip up here to central Vt and I'm glad you enjoyed your friends recommendation. Come back again next summer. And, yes, my computer and all related issues were rescued. Yea!

Site #3, “Tuckaway”, was a amazing. It was clean, almost bug free, close to the brook and waterfall, and had enough privacy that you felt like the only ones there. 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Waterfall Camping at Kathy's was just lovely. The brook created a lovely backdrop to our site, with full view of her lovely hardens. The trails were well maintained, there were few insects, and the air was cooler, especially on those high humidity days. Thank you Kathy for giving us clear directions and answering our questions; it was a great long weekend!

Lose yourself in a setting as boundless and natural as any you could likely imagine for yourself in the rural storybook of Central Vermont.

I lost my phone or I'd proffer visual evidence, but only time can wipe away the smiles and memories from the adventures my three boys and I made, whiling away our time at Kathie's fantastically situated getaway spot.

We're stopping by another time, with my wife, just to properly document a place to which I expect we'll enjoy many happy returns.

I've stayed at other award-winning HipCamp spots and this one simply takes the cake in almost every respect. Don't sleep on this very unique experience.

Katherines is super sweet and her property is beautiful! Everything is well accommodated for. You are seconds away from a creek, waterfall and beautiful hiking trails. You are about 20 minutes from Groton State Forest, and 20 minutes from a typical Vermont downtown. The location is perfect, and camping there is magical. Huge plus that we were able to have the doggy off leash just make sure they are good listeners because the street is close. Wish we could stay longer!
