Socks Family Farm comprises 30 acres, high in the hills of Cabot VT. Our campsites are nestled at the edges of the fields and woods. The fields are meadowland, where we pasture our animals, cut hay, and enjoy the company of a diverse cohort of grasses, flowers, insects, and birds. The fields are open, with ample sunshine and steady breezes. On clear nights, the stars are lovely, and if you're fortunate to be here on a moonless night, you'll be treated to the breathtaking sweep of the Milky Way. During the day, you can linger in the gardens, visit the sheep and chickens, wade in the pond, hike in the woods, walk the lovely dirt roads, or head out on your bike. If you're ready to range further, we're a short drive to hiking, paddling, fishing, swimming, epic mountain biking, quaint eateries, microbreweries, and more. St Johnsbury and Montpelier are the closest cities (25 and 35 minutes). Burlington is 1.25 hours, and Montreal is 2.5 hours.
We moved to this land in 2007 with our two small children, and began developing a homestead. Over time, we built 2 greenhouses, a large equipment shed, planted and fenced an orchard, berry & perennial patch, & vegetable garden, made several flower gardens, set up systems for pasturing sheep and chickens, planted native shrubs and trees, and completely renovated the farmhouse. We practice organic regenerative agriculture and landscaping, with a deep commitment to strengthening and diversifying ecological systems. We offer free farm tours, and those who want to help & learn are welcome. We love the beauty of this land, and look forward to sharing it with you.

Beautiful and quiet farm campsite off the beaten path. A real hidden gem and happy I found it on a fall weekend when all other campsites were either closed or sold out. Despite poor weather the next morning, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back!
Susan was a lovely and accommodating host. She showed us around her impressive farm and was generous with her time answering our questions. The view from our campsite down into and across the valley was spectacular!
Star studded night at the farm
Susan was the most amazing host and gave us great recommendations for things in the area as well as a wonderful and very interesting tour of the farm. The farm is lovely with great views and close to Cabot and Groton Forest! Highly recommend!
A sweet little off the grid oasis 🥰
Susan’s Farm was so beautiful. We arrived late at night and did not get to see the farm, but the stars were AMAZING! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many stars so clearly! We stayed at the field and friends spot on the edge of the woods and it was a perfect little secluded area for us and our pup.
The next morning, Susan have us a wonderful tour of the farm. Her dog, Helga and our corgi Mochie had a blast together 🥰 We hope to come back and visit again next year.
Beautiful, well-managed farmstead
We appreciated that our very gracious host Susan got in touch with us right after we made our reservation to offer whatever advice or local information we might need. Our site was at the top of a pasture where a flock of sheep watched us build our campfire. View of mountains and plenty of space. Susan and her family are keeping their land healthy with regenerative farming techniques that we learned about during her farm tour.
Susan was a lovely, responsive host and gave us a fun tour of her family’s homestead, which sits on a large chunk of gorgeous meadows and fields. The campsite was private, yet easily accessible, and the farm in Cabot is a short drive from several towns that are great to explore and experience the unique Vermont culture. If you’re interested in a no-frills campsite, and learning about organic, regenerative agriculture in New England, this is the ideal place to spend a few nights.
Beautiful place to camp!! Susan was very informative on telling us where to park and find our site!

We spent 5 nights camping on the Socks family farm and loved every minute. The quiet, the gorgeous landscape and the warm welcome by Susan and her family made for a perfect vacation.
Thank you, Susan!

It was great to have you stay with us! Hope to host you again, and have a lovely summer.
