** Our land is reserved for women, transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive folks. If you fit into that category, you'll be a good fit for our Hipcamp. Otherwise, we respectfully ask that you look for a different option for your camping trip. **

HOWL (Huntington Open Women's Land)  is a secluded 50 acres of conserved land including forest, meadows, agricultural pasture, a house and a barn.  We are a non-profit land trust held in perpetuity for the full diversity of women, regardless of gender assigned at birth, and transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive individuals.  We welcome all children under the age of 10.

You will be camping at a grassy, mowed site in a field, about a 3-5 minute walk from the house, with complete privacy.  Beautiful mountain views, great sunsets, hiking & snowshoeing trails.

We're right next to Camel's Hump State Park, and very close to the Huntington Community Forest, established in July 2021 (easy to moderate hiking).  We're 40 minutes from Burlington, 45 minutes from Montpelier, and 50 minutes from Middlebury.

We have ~ 8 sites, but only 3 are occupied at any given time.  Our Caretakers can help you select the perfect campsite for you.  See Photos for map.  NOTE - 2021:  Because we have limited resources for mowing, we cannot guarantee that all of our sites will be available when you arrive.  We will do our best to find a site that works for you!  Please arrive before dark if at all possible, as it can be challenging to get to your site and set up camp in the dark.  Check the weather forecast and bring warm clothes as we head into fall.  The grassy paths can be damp, so bring extra shoes and socks!

Please look at "Rules and safety" for our Camping Rules.  NOTE:

  • Campers must Check In before 7 pm.
  • We highly recommend you arrive at least 1 hour before sunset.
  • Dogs must be physically leashed.  An e-leash is not acceptable.
  • Dogs can be off leash only near your campsite, not near the house or buildings.

Great views, beautiful Woodland, a safe place for fems to just get away, and Michele the hostess is a really kind woman. A friend and i spent a night camping and had little to no problems. There is a simple water station down by the house and a clean, well kept compostable bathroom.
I recommend checking this place out at least once, ill be going back the next time i get a chance!

We camped at the top of one of the fields, had this amzing view, plus the horses came over at 1 point to say "hi"!

HOWL is a beautiful place to stay. Stunning views, meadows full of flowers and woods to traipse through. We picked apples and blackberries, relaxed in the sun, and cooked over the campfire. Meg generously helped us start a fire and gave us some garden veggies when our friends accidentally took the car with the food supplies to go hiking. The community fridge was very handy. We had a lovely time and look forward to coming back.
