HOWL (Huntington Open Women's Land)  is a secluded 50 acres of conserved land including forest, meadows, agricultural pasture, a house and a barn.

HOWL is a non-profit land trust held in perpetuity for the full diversity of women, regardless of gender assigned at birth, and transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive individuals.  We also welcome all children under the age of 10.

You will be camping at a grassy, mowed site in a field, about a 3-5 minute walk from the house, with complete privacy.  Beautiful mountain views, great sunsets, hiking & snowshoeing trails.

We're right next to Camel's Hump State Park, and very close to the Huntington Community Forest, established in July 2021 (easy to moderate hiking).  We're 40 minutes from Burlington, 45 minutes from Montpelier, and 50 minutes from Middlebury.

We have ~ 6 sites, but only 3 are occupied at any given time.  Our Caretakers can help you select the perfect campsite for you.  See Photos for map.  NOTE - 2021:  Because we have limited resources for mowing, we cannot guarantee that all of our sites will be available when you arrive.  We will do our best to find a site that works for you!  Please arrive before dark if at all possible, as it can be challenging to get to your site and set up camp in the dark.  Check the weather forecast and bring warm clothes as we head into fall.  The grassy paths can be damp, so bring extra shoes and socks!

Please look at "Rules and safety" for our COVID-19 Camping Rules. You will receive a hard copy of the rules upon your arrival.

HOWL is a beautiful place to stay. Stunning views, meadows full of flowers and woods to traipse through. We picked apples and blackberries, relaxed in the sun, and cooked over the campfire. Meg generously helped us start a fire and gave us some garden veggies when our friends accidentally took the car with the food supplies to go hiking. The community fridge was very handy. We had a lovely time and look forward to coming back.

HOWL is a beautiful piece of land: mountain views, small wooden bridges over brooks, meandering trails, pond, open meadows, widely-spaced campsites. A perfect balance between communal and private outdoors spaces.
Meg is a wonderfully welcoming host. There is a community fridge available and picnic tables among production gardens. It's hilly, but Meg is happy to lend a large garden cart for set up and break down, if you want to be further afield. A thoroughly enjoyable stay!

HOWL is a gorgeous land with lots of space and privacy. A big thanks to Michele who took the time to show me around so I could decide which site would work best. It was a hot couple days and I loved the shady spot under the tree with a bonus stream that lulled me to sleep. I look forward to returning.

Loved it! My sister and I only stayed here 1 night but we could’ve easily stayed longer. It’s a beautiful area situated at the end of a dirt road and there’s various campsites! We stayed at the site down by the pond in the middle of a meadow; a , comfortable spot but still close to the main house. Michelle, one of the caretakers was kind, accommodating, and helpful. There was a community fridge (amazing!) filled with seasonal vegetables from the garden which the campers are able to eat. The other amenities near the main house are: potable water, well-stocked outhouse, washing station, fire pit, picnic tables and chairs. Everything you need + more. I recommend staying here!

Such special land currently cared for by the awesome Meg who kindly did a walking tour of all the available campsites so I could pick one perfect for a weekend retreat. Beautiful views, a sweet pond, on-site trails with access to the Catamount. I can’t wait to go back again!

HOWL was an amazing experience. The property is gorgeous, and we stayed at a campsite on the mountain with an incredible view. The location of HOWL is the prime spot for many outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking, and swimming. Our host told us about a local, scenic swimming spot with a waterfall. It was awesome! HOWL was an inviting and peaceful environment with warm hospitality. We love it, and we are planning to come back!

Our campsite at HOWL, one of the many sites to choose from on this beautiful property. The view is amazing. We loved camping at this site. It is private and peaceful. The beautiful meadow and mountain views at HOWL.
