A short walk further along the ridge will bring you to a vista of the valley below and Mount Monadnock in the distance.
The bustling artisan town of Brattleboro is a short 10 miles from our home, about a 12 minute drive as the locals go. Craft beer, art galleries ranging from the eclectic to the high end, multi cultural food and all right on the banks of the Connecticut river. Rent out a canoe at Vermont Canoe Touring Center and get out on the water. Here on a Thursday? Head to the huge local attraction of the Food Truck Round Up at the Retreat Farm in Brattleboro, complete with live music. How about a bike ride? Head out of our driveway and down the Huckle Hill to Route 142. From there cross into Guilford and hit up a country store for a Sammy or Blueberry Haus Ice Cream for a maple creemee and go for the major butt kicker of a ride down into Bernardston MA to complete the 30 mile loop up the back side of Huckle Hill.

A peaceful getaway in the woods
We had a peaceful time in this beautiful spot. The camp sites are all well spaced apart so you have lots of privacy, and the river and woods are expansive and fun to explore. We took a (very cold) dip in the little swimming hole on site and had a great time rock hopping with our kids. We didn't meet Colby but Aria was lovely. It's cool that it's so close to Brattleboro too.
Beautiful vermont oasis
What a beautiful oasis Colby has created! We arrived and easily found our way to our site via all the helpful signs. The site was super clean and the stars were magical. We overall had a great stay and would camp at Colby's again!
Amazing adventure with my two kids
First off, the entire Elsewhere Homestead is absolutely breathtaking. All four sites provide a ton of privacy and natural serenity. I took my two kids and stayed in the Bear Den (a pre-made bell tent on a large wooden raised platform). We had such a good time sitting by the fire, exploring the small river that runs through the property, and having a wonderful night's sleep. Both Colby and Aria are very helpful and welcoming. We will 100% return.
Unique, private site
We loved it! Just a short walk in the woods but so private. We found plenty of dead branches for the fire, but they also sell bundles. The tent was cozy on a wooden platform. There was a matt on the floor as you entered and it was very clean! Very zen! I am glad that I read the reviews because we packed light. The site is up a hill. You can always take a couple trips!
Magical, luxury woodland camping!
Bear's Den was magical! Colby was so kind and provided a solar lantern to make our way up to the site in the evening when we arrived. Their tiny house is beautiful, as is their garden & woodland property in general. The woods are beautiful and quiet, and the stream provides plenty of nice cold water. The outhouse is well maintained and clean, seemed like new! The tent is absolutely wonderful, very clean, and HUGE! It rained quite a lot when we were there, and being in that tent on a platform meant we were completely dry in the morning. There's a firepit and so much space to roam in the woods. Colby reccommended some local spots to eat (breakfast sandwiches at the Guilford country store are great if you're heading up towards Brattleboro!), as well as their neighbor's weekly bakery box (check out Tinybreadbox instagram!). We fell asleep to the sounds of live folk music next door - joyous banjos & fiddles playing away! It seems like the community is really lovely. Thanks for the wonderful stay, Colby!!
It was so beautiful on Colby’s property. Their tiny home living is aspirational, the small creek provides the perfect background noise for camping, and even the drive itself to the property was very pleasant. Colby was a wonderful host and a caring human. I recommend staying here for sure!
Quite a late review here, but a friend and I spent one night at Colby's Bear Den and it was amazing! Not only a great location with beautiful views, but Colby was so welcoming. We did a tour of his beautiful DIY tiny house where he answered so many questions of ours and gave us some great education. We loved seeing the ways they were working on their land and watching the bees buzz in and out of their hive. I can't wait to come back next year!
