Downstairs has a kitchenette with a stovetop, oven, sink, fridge, and cookware; shower with hot water and toilet. The Gihon River is across the street and the covered bridge is a short walk.
The barn has been made into a cozy and habitable space, but it is not insulated and there is no heat. There are fans to use when it's hot and blankets when it's cool. It is dry, with real beds, a bathroom, and space to cook. Please look at the photos and note you do need to go under a beam to get to the beds. Way better than camping!
10 minute walk to town with groceries, coffee, and the Vermont Studio Center. 20 minutes to Stowe. One hour to Burlington.45 minutes to Hill Farmstead Brewery. The Rail Trail is a five minute bike ride away and the Long Trail runs through town. Will pick up from the Long Trail!

The cabin is beautiful and so cozy! We had an amazing time and everything we needed! Jen was a great host and we can’t wait for another stay here!
Having not been out of my hometown in the past 18 months (being an essential hospital employee it’s been nigh impossible to get time away) I stumbled across some beautiful photos of the barn on HipCamp. I read the reviews and took a plunge! It was my birthday weekend and everything was just perfect from the welcome notes, to keeping in touch with us both beforehand and throughout - being a Mainer I talk to everyone like I’ve known them forever so when Jen stopped by to see how things were it was like talking to an old friend. The barn is spacious and welcoming, and the favorite activity was to find all the interesting knick-knacks around (keep your eyes out for the old school compass!) we walked into town and grabbed coffee at the local coffee truck (thanks for that suggestion Jen - best coffee AND savory croissant we’ve ever had!). 100/10 would recommend and we hope to be back next year!!
Butterbox Barn was a unique opportunity to stay in a converted antique structure in a quiet neighborhood. The space has everything needed for a comfortable stay but also retains a feel of vintage and funky. Will definitely make a return stay.
Jennifer's barn was just perfect for a quiet retreat in the midst of a lot of life transitions. It was charmingly rustic and funky in just the right ways. I only saw Jennifer once in passing, but she was available and communicative at every turn. I would absolutely recommend Butterbox Barn.
The Butterbox is a very cute and romantic place to stay. We really enjoyed our time here and everything was great!
This was the nicest hipcamp ever!! Beautiful barn with rustic decor.
Stayed here for a weekend while visiting my sister and already want to go back! Such a beautiful barn with everything you could need. Will definitely be staying here again the next time I’m in Johnson!
Our stay at Butterbox Barn was so great! The barn is adorable, the coziest little place with very vintage touches I loved! Everything you need is there from the kitchen, bath & beds!
Jen is a great host who is there if you need her, but totally let’s you have your own privacy! She had great recommendations and we can’t wait to come back!
Butterbox Barn is so cute and was a great place to stay. We loved the outdoor lights. The place was cozy and had great amenities including a small fridge, and nice shower and toilet. Jennifer was a wonderful host. She found out we were bringing our 6 year old son and she added a safety rail near the stairs to the loft before our visit (previous guests had only been adults). Jennifer also left our son a Hot Wheels car which made his day! Before we arrived she let us know about an outdoor music night in town with food stalls/trucks. She found out we wanted to do some hiking, so she gave us suggestions on trails.
