Past trips
Flour Lake Campground
in Superior National Forest, MinnesotaRiverside Campground
in Upper Sioux Agency State Park, MinnesotaThe sites here are not very private but if you go in the month of October to the primitive sites along the river , you will most likely have the place to yourselves .
Blue Mounds Campground
in Blue Mounds State Park, MinnesotaSome of the cart in sites are AMAZING and very secluded with rock formations . The trails are beautiful with many blooming flowers and prickly pear cactus plants . This would be a great place to try out that new rock climbing gear .
Camden Upper Campground
in Camden State Park, MinnesotaThere is a DNR trout stream here . There is also a very nice swimming hole that would be perfect for a family trip .
Lake Maria Campground
in Lake Maria State Park, MinnesotaIf hiking to the cabins in the winter , don't forget to bring water and wearing ice cleats or yaktrax is very helpful as some of the trails that lead to your destination will have icy inclines .
Oak Woods Campground
in Lake Shetek State Park, MinnesotaIf you are looking for seclusion , visit this campground in October , when Minnesotan's start to hibernate . The lake is a huge recreational lake in the summer months , a great family spot .
Prairie Campground
in Lake Shetek State Park, MinnesotaSunrise Campground
in Lake Shetek State Park, MinnesotaRed Fox Campground
in Minneopa State Park, MinnesotaFort Ridgely Campground
in Fort Ridgely State Park, MinnesotaThere is a DNR trout stream here with the most beautiful rainbow trout . Make sure you are fishing in open trout season and have your trout stamp on your fishing license . I was checked by the DNR while I was knees deep in mud along the banks of the creek :) There is a golf course here that is at risk of closing but thanks to friends of the park , it has remained open . It is operated on an honor system and no carts are allowed but it truly is a beautiful course . The Walk in camp
sites here are secluded that sit on top of a hill . Don't overpack as the incline is pretty steep ! The trails also have many inclines so if you are training for a future backpacking trip , a weekend here , hiking the trails would be beneficial .
Cuyuna Country Campground
in Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, MinnesotaInterstate Campground
in Interstate State Park MN, MinnesotaThere are a few car camping sites here that are fairly secluded . The campground is located on the St Croix River . The hiking trails are nice . The pothole exhibit is full of tourists but the trails deeper in the park offer more privacy .
