I'm afraid I can't wrap our experience at this wonderful place in words, but I'm going to try! Sonya & her husband were incredible host & people - we quickly felt like friends. The cabin we stayed in brought back so much childhood nostalgia. It was clean, cozy, & the perfect mixture of primitive & "glamping" - with a full kitchen & bathroom + hot water & the best part?! We feel asleep to the rhythm of the river.
The next day we got a bucket of dirt to gemstone hunt, hiked to the two waterfalls on the property, took a dip in the swimming hole, fished (we caught four!), & spent hours learning about he history of the property. They told us about Andy, he's Sonyas grandfather, who started "Andy's trout farm" after coming home from World War II. Andy had a feed store in town & after directing multiple locals & tourist to the nearest fishing spots (in Cherokee) he decided he would make a place for families to fish right here in Otto, NC. So Andy & his son logged some of the property, dug out a place for the lake, & started what is known as Andy's trout Farm . After Andy & his wife, Hazel, passed away - Sonya took over the family legacy. Her & her husband carry on the dream for people to enjoy the wonder of the property in the same way that Andy did. There is so much more history bathing this property, so much so that my husband & I plan to write more about it - this property is the product of a hard working American man with an innovated mind & dream - it was such an honor to stay, play, & learn.
We will be bringing our family & friends for years to come!

We really enjoyed staying at Starlight Hills - William & his son greeted us shortly after we arrived to our site. He clearly explained in detail all the things the campground had to offer & we quickly learned how great the place was laid out - everything flowed & was clearly marked. We talked for hours about life, dogs, camping, & the 40 acre property that he has cleared by hand! The hard work paid off, we will definitely be back! The common area was so gorgeous with sunrise & sunset views. It was very quiet & family/dog friendly. We stayed at campsite 4 & loved out it was tucked back into the woods, how camping should be! There was a porter-potty & water spiket on the property as well. The water is safe for both pups & humans. I love taking a little hike on the two trails William cleared out & it was truly peaceful - but really there wasn't a part of the property that didn't make you feel at ease. We felt refreshed & ready for the week when we left but don't worry, we will definitely be back!
Thank you for being such a good host!
