Located minutes from the Texas/ Mexico border, this cabin is nestled on 40 acres of thick brush, white-tailed deer turf with fantastic bird watching. The 10 Point Turtle Ranch of Eagle Pass (see us on Facebook) features a nature center which houses a variety of wildlife including two 180 pound sulcata tortoises. The ranch feels secluded, with ambient noise provided by the livestock and plethora of bird life.
Our watershed pond spans a few acres, depending on recent weather conditions. Catch and release fishing is allowed, and rod/ bait rental are available. Fish include bass, blue channel catfish, yellow cats, perch, alligator gar, and carp. Be careful not to get your bait stolen by red eared sliders-- a native species of friendly water turtles. There are also several species of non-venomous water snakes, herons and frogs that populate the greenbelt region of the ranch.
Horse boarding is available, and there are several nice trails on site, as well as several miles of low-traffic gravel roads in the surrounding area. Hikers are recommended to stay on trails to avoid spooking rattlesnakes and other native wildlife.
Located only 6 miles east of Eagle Pass, population 59,000 with full amenities, the Turtle Ranch is also only 20 minutes from the largest casino in Texas, operated by the Kickapoo Tribe of North America.

What a blessing to have a warm, secure place available in the desert outside of Eagle Pass! Theresa was generous in providing a tour of her propery and introducing me to her adopted children and rescued animals. A very beautifully designed ranch and home. The cabin was warm, the bed was comfortable, and the nights were quiet. That being said, the place was pretty dirty. This didn't bother me much, as the price is fantastic, but it may bother others. All in all is was enough of a value that I renewed for a second night. If ever I pass through that region again, I would stay there again.
Theresa & Orlando were super welcoming and hospitable. Theresa even introduced us to the animals they have on their property and told us she plans to create an animal habitat to make available to school field trips in the future. We had a great stay and love how passionate they are about sharing their place with others!
