Shared outdoor kitchen with a BBQ pit, sink, electrical outlets, and countertop.

The last 5 miles of the drive are on a "Red Dirt Road" and it can be bumpy or even slippery if it's rained recently. I've never heard of any issues in any vehicles but it's definitely a county road. You will leave with red dirt on your vehicle but that's part of the appeal, the secluded getaway :)

The main driveway is pretty steep but hasn't caused any issues. There are 3 alternate routes so any vehicle will be fine.

Once you start down the driveway you'll see the lake through the trees and it makes the rough 5 mile ride worth it.

Our family was looking for a new place to spend our annual family vacations. We found Stewart's Cove and made our reservations for this past extended weekend. We HONESTLY had the BEST time... ever. Gene is a friendly, generous host and the cabin, property and scenery were just phenomenal. We had no complaints and DEFINITELY will be back. We went kayaking, floated on floats, explored the creek-fed swimming hole, did some fishing, outdoor family games and just relaxed. We highly recommended Stewart's Cove to any and all.... 5 ☆☆☆☆☆

This cabin was absolutely wonderful! The lakefront views were incredible. We stayed here for a weekend trip and the cabin had great views, super hot water for everyone to shower and satellite TV and the internet even worked great! Did some fishing and had a great time with great family and friends. There's a large picnic table by the waterfront to cookout as well as a pit at night there's lighting over the table. This place is a little piece of heaven tucked away in Crockett, TX. Highly recommend visiting !

Imagine going camping and doing all of your favorite things, then being able to sleep in complete comfort and wake up to do it all again the next day! This wonderful space is just what we were looking for and exceeded my expectations.
The cabin is set up with all the windows facing the lake, making it easy to have incredible views and watch over the kids playing. With a full size refrigerator, 2 full bathrooms, linens, bath towels, kitchenware, comfy beds, a stacked washer/dryer, and air conditioning! We got to watch a thunderstorm come in, a beaver collecting sticks, birds, squirrels, all from the windows and large front deck.
The property is cared for by two incredible hosts, Gene and Selah made us not only feel welcome but helped us take our fun to the next level! We used the kayaks a lot and Gene helped me find a way to tow a kayak behind me for my child who isn’t ready to quite paddle on her own yet. Ask them for recommendations on where to to paddle, you won’t be disappointed! Gene and Selah are continually working to improve their enchanting space, and it shows. I’m looking forward to booking here again and seeing the improvements made!
Mosquitoes aren’t bad here, even after a rain, we did get a few ant bites, nothing out of the ordinary for being in nature, we caught frogs, minnows, saw turtles, beavers, birds, squirrels, water snakes, and incredible views on the lake!

Another beautiful evening Where we launch the kayaks fromFrog catching! Bring buckets and nets! Beautiful colors, and happy kids not ready to go inside yet

We were randomly scrolling through Hipcamp one day and found Gene’s lake house and we are so happy we did. We had our two families together for a much needed trip away. We spent every minute of our vacation at the lake house and loved how private it was. Our two families of 6 total fit perfectly in the cabin. We hope we can return again very soon! Thank you Gene for a great stay

Amazing location! Everything that you could ever need was provided for and more. The view of the lake was amazing and the WINDOWS made the little cabin spectacular.

We wanted a quiet, secluded, comfortable getaway and that's EXACTLY what we got. If you want a place to relax and get away without sacrificing any comfort, this is the spot.

It was raining the whole time that we were there and the only challenge we had were the red dirt, steep roads. But Gene made sure to be in easy contact and gave us plenty of ways to get in and out of the area. So even without a 4X4 we were able to get in and out no problem.

With satellite TV and plenty of board games, this was a perfect location to cuddle up, and watch and listen to the rain splash upon the lake.

10 out of 10 would recommend, and we're looking forward to our next visit.

The Gene S.'s cabins on Houston County Lake are the most magical experience we could have had with our family during Thanksgiving 2020. With the crazy Covid world, these cabins are the escape your mind and body need. The views are breathtaking, the amenities include board games, corn hole, fire pit, grilling, outdoor patio with cozy lighting, three swinging benches, fishing, kayaks, and even a paddle boat! Great for kids of all ages and adults.

We had 4 kids there, ages 3 to 7, and felt pretty safe but there are some areas that you need to be mindful and careful around.
1. The main entrance doors have a deep trench with a catwalk leading to door so watch your step.
2. The lakeside doors have a 3-4 ft drop off to the steep hill so don't just step out expecting to be at/near ground level. I'm sure a deck or steps will be there in the near future.
3. The lake shore is about 30 yards from the cabins so be mindful of that and kids. Thankfully ours can swim and it was too clod for them to even want to get in.

The cabins were fairly clean and ready for us with the exception of some dishes still in the washer, trash cans not empty before our arrival, and some saw dust in the more unfinished cabin.. But the host was very transparent with the condition of one of the cabins before we booked.

The cabins are very comfortable, cozy, and temperature regulated with wall unit heaters and air conditioners. There is satellite TV available and some OK Wi-Fi on the property, but who needs those there really. This place is all about enjoying the outdoor areas, campfire, and the lake.

Gene is a great host, reliable, easy to communicate with, and even left us some smores gear since we were his first bookers!

Thank you so much S. Family for opening your lovely property and cabins to our family! We have already hearted this property and your contact info has bee in saved! We will for sure plan a trip and stay at the cove again in the future!

Response from Gene, the Host, on November 28th, 2020

So glad everyone enjoyed their stay and we agree that the cabins are our Happy Place but Magical is an excellent description as well. It was built by our family for families to enjoy with kids and grandkids in mind. We do have plans to complete the deck and the less finished cabin in 2020. We're adding a hot tub too! Thanks for being our first guests and understanding the final stages of construction and dust.
