Overall it wasn't horrible. The site had great views. Relatively quiet. Unfortunately, however, it wasn't nearly as "secluded" as I had hoped. It was very near two other residences. One of which I could hear the TV on in. To be fair, it was early enough in the evening not to be disruptive I'm just simply illustrating the proximity of the site to other houses. The site itself did indeed have a dramatic backdrop of some impressive boulders/rock outcroppings but I found myself being very aware of the other houses. And since no one ever came out to greet me it was slightly awkward. Someone else may very well not have a problem with this. It just wasn't for me. Also, there is a two night stay minimum requirement. However, I was just staying one night and ended up paying for two nights. I rationalized this when I booked that if this site was truly secluded and awesome it would be worth it as I travel through Ft. Davis several times a year en route to Big Bend Ranch SP and was looking for a different place to stay other than the Davis Mountain SP. So I ended up paying $46 for a one night stay that didn't meet my expectations. This site will probably be perfect for someone else just wasn't for me.
East Lizzard Mountain is a serene and scenic campsite. Stunning boulders rise from the back of the campsite and wide open spaces abound in the foreground. There are plenty of miniature hereford cattle to keep you company around the camp. They are adorable and did not seem to mind us sharing their pasture. Roy rode out to meet me and show me the campsite and was very hospitable. Easy directions. The surrounding roads in West Texas offer some unreal scenery as you drive in. And you pass Prada Marfa if arriving from the west. Marfa is an easy half hour drive and makes for a great day of exploring before returning to camp and clear, star filled skies. We arrived in sedan with a lot of gear and the road is a little rough for short patches but manageable if driven slowly. Also the campsite is near a wooden power line. It was a peaceful, relaxing stay at East Lizzard and we would certainly love to return in the future. An exceptionally beautiful camping space.
Booked this place because Davis Mtns. State Park was full. Lucky find. Quiet , expansive views with boulders upon boulders for a ten year old (me too) to scramble upon. I will be bringing my telescope next time. Good directions - easy to find.. Roy is a gentleman - he came and greeted us upon arrival. Recommended. Enjoy…
Roy was a great host. The view is amazing, in the daytime and night, and it's a really nice spot to camp. Not secluded, there are other houses around, but no one was invasive or bothered us. Would stay here again!
