This listing is for those whose priority is an unobstructed view of the night sky for stargazing, astronomy and meteor shower viewing! Our dark skies provide a great display on clear nights, not to mention stunning sunrises and sunsets. A compost toilet is provided as well as a Weber grill (bring your own charcoal), picnic table and two lawn chairs. Please be aware that this site does not have shade and this will be hot in the summer! A short walk takes you to our beautiful natural pecan orchard on the San Saba River where you can enjoy swimming, fishing and canoeing. (We ask that during this pandemic, you practice social distancing with our family and campers at other sites.) As we are a working farm, you may hear roosters crowing or goats bleating-- book a tour to meet our animals and learn about the history of this property and our practices and plans for Indigenous, restorative agriculture. This farm has been in my family for five generations and is the traditional homeland of the Tonkawa, Lipan Apache and Comanche. We honor the legacy of those who came before us while planning a future of ecological agriculture that will provide sustanence and growth for years and years to come. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming place for POC and folx who identify as queer in any way.

Excellent experience overall camping for two nights. The stargazer site had plenty of space to accommodate a large group like mine. Logan was responsive when we asked questions over text and flexible about where exactly we could camp relative to our designated site.

Activities at the property were plentiful. Short hikes, a river to wade and canoe in, and plenty of farm animals to watch helped pass the time during the day. As for the light show at night, I believe our conditions were optimal: a massive clear sky and a new moon. We were able to see hundreds, if not thousands, of stars spanning as far as we could see.The milky way was apparent, but not quite as distinct and colorful as you might find online. However, for not being an International Dark Sky recognized area, and the sheer luck of scheduling a month in advance and getting a completely clear sky one out of the two nights we reserved, I am extremely happy with my time spent stargazing here.

This is our second stay at Tent Spot this year and we'll be very happy to keep coming back. This time we scheduled the trip to be moonless and the weather cooperated. We camped in the middle of a huge field next to the picnic table and other amenities. Fabulous star gazing with a really clear view of the Milky Way. Be aware that this is Central Texas and be vigilant as we saw a couple of snakes. Their other sites are lovely but we enjoyed the sense of space at Tent Spot for Stargazers. Their stretch of the San Saba is beautiful; a lovely cold swim was very refreshing. Logan and Gear are great hosts and we appreciate the very inexpensive stay in a wonderful place.

This stay was one of the highlights of our trip. The river, pecan trees, armadillo, fireflies, and full moon were absolutely beautiful and amazing. What a peaceful paradise! We'd drive across Texas to stay here again!

Great host, beautiful property, private campsite, good price, cute goats, and very nice rock beach. However, as others have noted, just be aware that there is no shade at this particular site (though that does provide an amazing view of the stars at night), and there are burrs absolutely everywhere (keep that in mind if you want to bring your dog), and the path to the toilet, at the time of my visit, was overgrown and contained some stinging plants (so bring long pants). In summary, a LOT to like about the campsite with a few inconveniences just to be aware of.
