Welcome to Camp Twisted Oaks, secluded campsites nestled in the woods on more than 20 acres! This is the perfect getaway although there is no river or lake on this property. The river is 15 minute drive (tops) on a bicycle maybe 40 minutes.

Spring is here and summer will follow sooner than we all want. We have invested in a Jackery solar generator. This fully charged unit will power a box fan for 8 hours and will make sleeping outdoors a bit more comfortable. Please use the Hipcamp forum to ask about rental rates. We will do our best to keep rates reasonable... the investment was quite substantial so we just want to be fair.

There are a few things that you  may need to know before you book. The guidelines are simple. To reduce the impact on the land we allow 1 vehicle per campsite additional vehicles will be charged an additional fee of $5 and will park in designated spot by the entrance, if this seems to be an issue contact me . We will loan a 2 wheel wheelbarrow or dolly at no charge. If you bring it in bring it out. If it is here it stays here.   just like all state parks and campgrounds.  We do make recycling of aluminum available. Please do not gather firewood (or anything else) I cut and stack firewood for guests. I allow campers to choose the wood. It is an amount comparable to what you would buy at a box store (plus some extra). I The wood at box stores is generally GREEN...meaning wet and will produce lots of smoke. The wood I sell is dry seasoned oak and juniper... My dogs may wander up to your  camp,  they are super friendly. If your dog does not tolerate other dogs just text me and I'll make sure they stay clear. Bathrooms are cleaned before guests arrive, if you find issue with either of them let me know asap so I can make it right. The goal is to relax and have fun...this is the most important thing.

The property is in San Marcos, and there are  trails through the entire property - all trails are at least 4ft. wide. The terrain is flat and grassy - The trails are  maintained.  San Marcos offers lots of things to do and places to go. The crystal clear river is our greatest resource. Floating, kayaking and canoeing are all great fun. We have rentals available here, just ask us! We offer transport to and from as well.

If you enjoy playing disc golf, we have homemade disc golf baskets and you can purchase a bucket of golf balls from us. We also have ring toss  and a large trampoline. The property has an expansive feel to it with a minimal amount of traffic. There are only 3 properties beyond mine on a dead end road.

This is not KOA, these are  private owners sharing their beautiful land with folks who can appreciate it. We work hard to keep things clean and safe for our guests. If you have any concerns please notify us through the Hipcamp forum before booking a reservation, our goal is to have happy campers!

Other Things to Note:

- I have 2  portable solar generators for small rental fee. I have the Jackery 880 and a smaller unit to charge phones.

We have tried to remain true to our core values when we decided to share our property with campers. Our main priority it looking out for our environmental impact. In our home we use 90% rainwater and the camp  toilet and shower are also rainwater. There are also flush toilets available to campers!

To keep from having to haul trash when you leave,  separate your cans, plastic and bottles. The paper can be burned in the fire pit. Keep food scraps contained or dump in our compost bin. Food attracts critters that may cause damage to your gear. DEFIMITE;Y DO NOT LEAVE FOOD IN YOUR TENT. A recent camper found out the hard way if a critter wants to eat a tent is no obstacle.

John is so helpful and warm! Everything you need is on his property. It’s safe and it’s close enough to the university. I hope to come again!

John has a beautiful bit of land outside of San Marcos and it was a real treat to get to stay there. This is off the grid camping at it's finest. Our Troop of Scouts had a great time exploring the camp, heading over to the Flying Armadillo for some disc golf, and helping out with a small service project on site at camp. Be sure to follow all instructions and pay attention to details before arriving! We'll be sure to come camp here again!

Had a great one night stay tent camping at John’s place. His directions were spot on and he was very helpful showing us around the property. He had plenty of firewood available for sale (even accepts Venmo) and the fire pit was a great way to end the night. No one else was at the property on our side so had it all to ourselves. There was plenty of space with lots of different options to put up our tent. There was also a couple of tables perfect for setting up a camp stove or just storing your stuff. Overall I really enjoyed our stay here and would come back!

Johns camp was the perfect escape from the city. John met us and showed us the property and made us a fire while we set up camp. The site was super comfortable and secluded and quiet. We will definitely return.
