Our stay at the cabin was really wonderful. We arrived later than expected but the hosts were understanding and accommodating. Their dogs are so cute and friendly. The cabin looks just like the pictures and was comfortable, but the real gem in this listing is the outdoors. The pictures really didn't do it justice. Totally gorgeous. We saw, among other things, a bald eagle, a family of raccoons across the water, hummingbirds, and some kind of huge heron. The water was cool and nice, and there was an area away from the moving part of the current where we could swim without concern. We made a fire for hot dogs and smores, heard both an eastern screech owl and a great horned owl, and did some stargazing. When we left we were already talking about our next visit.
Gorgeous area, great getaway!
My 7 year old son and I stayed at the Rustic Red Cabin for 2 nights and had an excellent time! The cabin and the bathrooms were clean, neat, and had little amenities like candy, soap, an extension cord, filtered water in the fridge, extra linens, both the k-cup and regular coffee makers, sleeping bags, and so much more. The heat this past week was close to 100 degrees during the day so staying at a place with air conditioning definitely helped!
Aside from the incredible beauty of that area of the Brazos and the beautifully kept camp grounds, our favorite part of our stay was our hosts, Johnny and Peggie, ZZ and Clover. Johnny and Peggie were super helpful, quick to respond, friendly and knowledgeable. My son loved the sweet and friendly camp dogs.
One day we spent swimming, exploring, and rafting around The Rocks. The next day we took our own kayak down and did the 4.5 mile trip putting in there at Hidalgo Falls. About 2/3 of the way there was a rocky “island” where we pulled out, had a nice swim, built a little dam, and found some cool colored stones. At the end of our paddling trip, Johnny picked us up, pulled our kayak up a steep embankment and on top of his truck then back to camp. A service worth more than $10/person, in my opinion.
After our rafting trip we took wonderful showers with great water pressure (nothing better than a great shower after a hard, hot day of activity) and walked back to the cabins watching fireflies blink around us. The next morning we watched 3 hummingbirds racing around and eating at the hummingbird feeders. Wow! How blessed I’m feeling.
I grew up in the country so I have fond memories of working and playing in the outdoors. I keep looking for ways for my son to enjoy it too and this trip will be part of that education, whether he resents the time off his video games or not ;). As a single mom, the safety of the property was also a big bonus. Loved it!!
Thank you, Patti, Peggie, Johnny, ZZ and Clover
Enjoyable and peaceful
We took our two boys (4 and 2) to the cabin for a quick weekend get away. We really enjoyed it. It’s close enough to things to run out quickly and get dinner or gas, but far enough away that we didn’t hear road noise and we were able to enjoy lightning bugs and stars. The River access was great and the boys enjoyed exploring and finding rocks and shells. When they’re older it would be a great place to paddle board.
Everything was clean and Ms. Patti was quick to correspond when I messaged her. Ms. Peggi was a wonderful hostess and we enjoyed visiting with her. The camp dogs were an added delight - my kids loved them.
Will definitely consider Rustic Red Cabin again for a quick trip I’m the future.
We enjoyed our stay in the Rustic Red Cabin! Patti has a beautiful property with river access. Although the water was too high to kayak, we went to Lake Bryan and hung out in the water for the day. We were able to make it back as the sun was setting and it was beautiful!
Amazing! fun! beautiful! friendly!
We rented 3 nights during Memorial Day weekend.
Expected water sports, but it had just rained night before. The river was too high. But, we made the best of it.
First night, got attacked with ridiculous amount of bugs, lol. We were drenched in bug spray, and still suffered. It's ok. We were determined to have fun and enjoy nature, :)
Setup the canopy, turned on our fire pit (bring your own, off the ground), put on some music, and had some drinks. Danced with the faerie folk under the pale of the moonlight. Enjoyed the fireflies, moonlight, stars, walked thru the wood at night, connected with nature.
Next day BBQ'ed, setup the badminton net, played with our horseshoes, walked thru the berry patch, walked thru the sunflower fields, walked thru the woods, played with their dog (Clover). Went into the small quaint town of Navasota, alot of antique shops. Many other small towns near by with folk art in their lawns and stores.
3rd day, we slept in, and left at noon, wanted to hit up the antique shops and had to work next day. Peggy and Johnny were the hosts and so friendly and helpful. They showed us place, made conversation, and told us some hotspots in town for buying bug spray and snacks and antiques. Patti was out of town this time.
We love this place! We're coming back with friends and shared it on our FB walls with links to give them more business. BTW, the cabin has electricity, no running water, there are 3 flush toilets and showers in the middle of the campground, for tent campers and the cabin with sinks and soap and toilet paper. The cabin is next to the owner's trailer. Didn't bother us, but just in case you expect privacy. We stayed up late all night playing music outside next to the cabin away from their trailer, kept checking if it bothered them, they said it was cool.
Hope you all give them your business. They also have a business renting kayaks.
Peaceful and beautiful!
Down at the end of a dirt road cutting through fields of cotton is the rustic red cabin. The only sounds are the roaring of the river, the wind, and the birds. My family had an amazing, relaxing stay.
The perfect camping getaway !!
If your looking for the best way to relax and unwind from the daily city routine. This is the perfect spot! So peaceful and calm making it easy to enjoy nature. Even if your not much of a nature person there will be something that everyone can enjoy. The cabin although it may be small it was surprisingly spacious , cozy too! We had so much fun using our inflatable raft and renting out their kayaks for fishing. Watch out though, fishes might try to jump into your kayak! We Took plenty of pictures in the river, the sand dunes, and in the fields. Thank you Pattie and Peggie for making our stay very enjoyable & take you for the stories and information on how to enjoy wild parks around texas. We are so glad we have found this camp, such a hidden gem it is now our to go spot from now on!
Nice setting n friendly folks
It was outdoorsy, calm retreat and be even more wonderful in the Spring and Summer with limestone pools of water to chill. It’s a canoe and rafting recreational joy and fishing paradise. Bring a pit or gas grill for outdoor grilling. Sunset is hearty and relaxing. Lots of Red Robins so saying goes angels are near by relaxing too.
