The terrain is rugged, and the dust and wind blow some nights. Once you're here, there are zero amenities (other than picnic tables). If this sounds fine — you don't mind roughing it — you'll be sleeping under the stars at the foot of West Texas' tallest mountain range. And who else can say they've done that? Ocotillo Grande

The view of the mountains is great but the highway is loud the whole night. There is nothing on site other than a few lights and picknick tables. The portable toilet is only a bucket! It was easy to find and we enjoyed the solitude although it was spoilt by the road noise, but I don’t think it is worth the money.

Ocotillo Grande

Wes’s primitive campsite had the most stunning view of the mountains. While you are somewhat close to the highway, you can’t hear car noise and the location really feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere. Please remember what you bring in you need to pack out! Don’t be gross and leave garbage around. Take care of nature and it will take care of you!

Ocotillo Grande

We greatly enjoyed camping at Ocotillo Grande. The scenery was beautiful. The host was very communicative. And it was easy to access with our pickup camper. There was one other camper there, so for privacy, we chose to camp closer to the road, which was a mistake. We should have camped further in to reduce some of the road noise. Overall, it was a great experience.

Stunning views, bare bones site and calm weather….easy to find, good directions…high desert camping….be aware of weather forecast and hope the wind doesn’t pick up.

Great site. GPS location is spot on, just look for the gate and blue porta-a-potty. I drive an Honda Odyssey and had no problem negotiating the road. It's peaceful and quiet.
