If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The road to get there was dusty and a bit rocky for my sedan, but we made it. It was worth the drive!
We had a great experience with the stillness of the Texas desert. We received a surprised visit from the neighbor's doggo. Definately a fun place to take long exposure shots of the night sky.
Camping at a real Ghost town was 10/10
This is a beautiful spot in the desert. There were a few other trailers around, but we think they were unoccupied so we were the only people there. The fenced in area keeps cows away, but we did have one very friendly pup visit us.
For a last minute stop on my family’s road trip, it was a great destination. We got there late night and had an amazing view of the stars, with a beautiful view of the mountains when we woke up in the morning.
I would say to follow his directions to the T! We got a little mixed up with the GPS, but other than that, no complaints. Very affordable with many spots to choose from. Thanks for the stay Ted!
Very cute with fairy lights, feels very safe with the lock on the gate. Kind of far from highway and a bit hard to find, but the instructions Ted gave were very helpful
Desert Gardens Oasis was a nice, clean, tranquil spot miles away from anyone else! Beautiful mountains on one side, fields of West Texas Desert as far as the eye can see on the others. The sunset over the mountains as we were setting up our tents was unbelievable.
The campsite has a big fire ring, shade structure with picnic bench, benches all around the ring and the shade structure and several chairs available as well make for great accommodations. There are three separate areas cleared out to set up tents on as well. The dry dirt road to get to the site was easily navigable by a front wheel drive sedan loaded with supplies.
Ted the host was responsive, friendly, and helpful. His instructions on how to get to the site were easy to follow, and the access road was clearly marked with DGO signs along the way.
For future campers to keep in mind: bring wood, as it was slim pickings to scavenge deadwood for the campfire. No places in town stocked firewood either, so come prepared. Also- if your tent has a high clearance be sure to use the lower tent site, as the wind picks up at night and can turn your tent into a sailboat.
Thanks for everything Ted, next time we’re in the area we’ll be sure to swing through again!
A great place for solitude and rest
We had a quiet and very private visit here and enjoyed the desert surroundings. When our tow vehicle’s suspension went out our host graciously offered us an extra day for free until we could make arrangements for getting out.
Cell service worked intermittently. Bring plenty of water! Hike the wash adjacent to the property, it was fun and challenging.
Beautiful site, welcoming host :)
We got lost for about an hour using the directions given on the website (they are a little vague at times), but Ted was kind enough to come meet us in the desert and lead us to the site! He was so kind and welcoming, even offered to let us stay in an RV instead of tent camping. The site is absolutely beautiful desert, especially at sunset. Also such a cute little outside area w a grill, benches, tables, fairy lights, etc. Definitely recommend paying a visit!
