This was a nice spot next to the river with good shade and plenty of space. But it did feel a little uncomfortable as there was no one else around except for what appeared to be a squatter living under a tarp nearby. There was a fair amount of noise, dog barking, and loud, not particularly friendly conversations at night, making this spot feel unwelcoming. Then, during the day, someone’s dogs came over and wouldn’t leave us alone. We like dogs, but they took off with gear we left on the ground and pooped around the campsite in the tall grass so you couldn’t see it. Overall, nice spot, but we ended up staying just one night instead if two because we were a bit worried if we left our tent and gear some of it might be destroyed, missing, or peed on when we came back. That said, if I were looking for a nice spot to set up camp with a bunch of friends for a weekend and was planning to stay put the whole time, I’d likely go back.

Super sketchy area, felt unsafe in area with my son. Arrived ~8pm, gate was locked with no code provided. Messaged host without a response. Had to drive into Austin and get a hotel as it was too late to camp anywhere else .

This property is evidently unavailable. We arrived at the property gate as instructed in the host's notes. The notes also stated to simply lift the chain up and over the pole, proceed through the gate, and proceed to the picnic tables to set up camp. It turns out that the chain is actually a steel cable bolted to that pole with a combination lock. No combo lock was mentioned in the notes. We hung around for 45 minutes trying to contact the host to get the combination to the lock, but phone calls, text messages, and Hipcamp app messages all went unanswered. We headed another half hour down the road and paid more money to camp at a state park instead. This was quite a disappointing experience!

First of all, there is a group of people staring me down when I drove through the neighborhood before the large drop off going in this cove/holler, whatever you want to call it, and I wondered why they didn't mention possibly needing 4WD to get out of there. With hesitancy, I decided to try to it, and then when I almost arrived to the location, a car quickly pulled out their driveway right in front of me, nearly blinding me, and drove in the other direction. I thought that was strange, but kept going. When I arrived to the gate, there was a combination bike lock on a large silver gate and lock on a chain that was not mentioned and I was unable to undo it, for I had no key, and wasn't given instruction on a key. I immediately felt a strange feeling like this might be a trap in the end of dead end at the bottom of hill where you come to get robbed, all your things taken, and then raped/maybe killed. So, I felt like to spare my life I needed to leave. I had to go to worst motel and spend way more than expected on a horrible room. Fortunately, Hipcamp did look into this matter, and customer service was really understanding and helpful. I didn't get a refund, but they did give me credit for my next booking.
