Located just 7 miles from Big Bend National Park, and 70 miles from Big Bend Ranch State Park, it is a perfect base from which to explore all the hiking, boating, horseback riding, and scenic beauty that West Texas is known for. The arts, history, and entertainment of Terlingua Ghost Town are 2 miles away.
West Texas is one of the best places in the US to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend Parks are certified International Dark Sky Parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize the stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program.
This is the desert, in all its rugged splendor. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths!
Future plans for the property include more primitive campsites, more amenities, more parking, a more extensive network of safe pathways, and furnished bell tent glamping. But our intention is always to provide secluded, low-density accommodations for folks who are respectful of the land.

It's very quiet with a nice view.
The outdoor shower is perfect and Karen is very nice and helpful.
We will come back.
Basic amenities, great views of the valley/town. Great sunset spot. Several tent sites.

Everything was great. The sites are all cleared and leveled for tents. Some wood is available to get a fire started but you would have to bring your own to keep it going. Karen is great in making sure your experience is great and that you get your privacy.
Karen’s land was absolutely gorgeous! Me and my friend were so astonished at how many stars we could see at night!! The moon was so bright we didn’t even need our lanterns, she was super accommodating and kind and the campsite set up was great!
Outstanding stay! Karen was a great host and I would highly recommend this stay. The land is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet.

And you were great guests! Come back any time ...
A beautiful remote place with good access to the state and national parks. Karen is a kind and accommodating host.

Dankjewel, Deborah!
What an incredible place! All the desert plants and smooth rocks. 360 sunsets and sunrises. Karen is a gem of a person so glad I met her! Only a short drive to big bend national park. I stayed here and played in the park before and after. Perfect jumping off point. Didn’t see the ghost town but I hear it’s very cool!

The ghost town *is* very cool ... you need to come back! Thanks so much for posting these fine photos.
We had great time as the first tent campers at Cielo Oscuro! It is a beautiful property and feels very secluded. Karen was out of town but her partner Antonio made us feel at home and told us all about improvements he has already made to the land and their plans for the future. The location was convenient for getting to Terlingua/Big Bend- I'd definitely recommend camping here.

Sorry I missed you, Zoe. So glad to hear that you found the New Year's experience you were looking for.
