Already planning my next trip back
Carlo's property is so beautiful, and it's beauty is wonderfully matched with his hospitality. I would recommend this to everyone! My mom and I went with my dog. It was my first time camping with my dog, and it was really a wonderful experience. Once of which I was a bit hesitant about because I didn't know how my dog would react, but he did great!
Okay back to the property, haha.
So, the ground is lush and soft. Like the perfect kind of dirt with leaves that have the perfect sound when you walk. The trees are very tall and come in all shapes and sizes. There are the cutest mushrooms all around!! To the site that we went to, he has cleared a nice trail to it. The site itself had a cleared ground with logs surrounding the area for the tent.
My mom and I have never done anything like this together, and it was so so special. It was exactly what we were looking for. Completely surrounded by trees and nature!
Carlos has a beautiful bathroom (with a shower!!) set up for his campers. I mean, this is a proper bathroom! We didn't use it because we really wanted the primitive feel, but next time (and there will be a next time!!) I will probably use it. We only stayed one night this time, and I wish we stayed longer! The weather was perfect, the trees protect you and the ground seems to say pretty cool which really helps! It was the perfect moist (not wet) but also dry ground and leaves. I know I keep talking about the ground, and it's hard to explain, but it was just so perfect.
Normally every night before I have work, I think about what I have to do the next day. Last night I couldn't even remember what I had been working on the week before! It was a total reset.
I'm definitely going to be coming back, and I'm bringing my sisters! I actually drove from San Antonio to come here, and let me tell you, it was really worth it.
It's the type of place where when you leave you say "I really needed that." And you really mean it and feel it when you say that.
Honestly, I could go on and on about this property, but I have to stop somewhere!
There are three things to note. **These are NOT complaints.** They are simply pieces of information that some of you may want to know.
1. This is not a drive up campsite. You will have to carry your belongings to the site. It's not too rough of a walk though. It actually made it a little more fun for us because of the "hard work pays off" feeling. Plus it means that
you are all the more in the woods.
2. There was a street pretty close to the campsite that we stayed at, but it didn't bother us one bit. It's is not a busy street by any means whatsoever. Also, there are other campsites that are much further from the street. But we chose this one specifically. It was perfect :)
3. He has a beautiful big ol' doggie that you can hear barking in the distance. It's a very low tone bark, so it's not annoying or anything and he's also far away enough that it wasn't very loud where we were. My dog normally barks a lot of he hears a dog barking, but he didn't even bark back at him. That's saying that it was far enough in the distance that even my dog didn't feel the need to talk back, haha. I only mention this because if you have a dog that cannot get over hearing another dog barking, then you might not want to bring your doggie.
Thank you SO much for being so accommodating and hospitable. Your property is amazing, and really provided my mom and me with some very needed replenishment. So, thank you from the bottom of our hearts; we really appreciate you opening up your property to give people like us the chance to experience nature at it's finest.
Just what i was looking for!
Stayed one night with my dog. Loved the campsite! The entire property is beautiful! You feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere. There is a very nice bathroom available to campers which I did not use Because I wanted a primitive experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Pros: pet friendly, clean, good size campsite.
Cons: public road very close to camp site, lots of poison ivy.
We had a group of 5 with 4 dogs, a tent for 6, 4, and 3 up and a large folding table with room to spare. I also liked how upon arrival the host let me choose from a few different available sites. We decided more space was better even with the close road. Please note: pack light or bring a cart, wagon or dolly with you.
This is my first time using hipcamp and my first time camping in a few years. Overall my group and I had a pleasant experience.
Carlos is an excellent host. Upon arrival he gives you a tour of the property, site and public restroom, which was very clean.
The campsite I had was great- secluded enough you aren’t right on top of one another, but you can occasionally hear neighboring campers. You can make the experience as “primitive” as you like, and you will have privacy in the lush woodsy setting. It’s a great place for beginning and experienced campers.
Note: Some sites are not accessible by car and you will have to walk a ways to your site. Pack light and only the essentials to carry or have a rolling cart. It adds to the camping experience!
Just had our stay at Carlo's and he was very nice! And its very nice of him to offer a clean bathroom to the campers:) he has multiple camp sites on his land and looks like most of them are pretty distanced from one another. Some sites are right by the road it looked like but we got a site by a pond. With big cars you can drive up to some of the sites but saw most people were carrying stuff all the way up to their campsite on foot. We explored waterloo cave trail in Denison and it was a lot of fun:)
Mostly quiet with the exception of a car now and then. Fairly secluded, much more than at a state park. Plenty of space and the pond on the property provided plenty of entertainment for me and my boys. Will be coming back!
Dog friendly and fish friendly
Excellent stay! There is a little pond that was just feet away from our site. Carlos had just restocked with Perch and they were pretty hungry. None of them were big enough to keep and eat so I tossed them all back in. But this would be a great place for starter fisher people to get the hang of their equipment. We had our three dogs with us, and there was plenty of places for us to attached their leads to ensure they stay in our site. There are a good amount of trails within driving distance, ten minutes of less, that you can easily go visit for the day. There were other campers in the area, but with the trees and distance you were not able to easily hear them.
