So, that means you have to check in during business hours (Opens at 4PM on most days. Opens at noon Friday, Sat and Sunday - but always check Facebook). Please don't come expecting Yosemite or the Ritz Carlton. This is as primitive as it gets. Conveniently located in Fredericksburg, Texas off the famous and beautiful Old Highway 9.
A short 9 miles from downtown Fredericksburg, these primitive RV and primitive campsites are close to 290, the Wine Trail, Luckenbach, the Old Bat Tunnel and Alamo Springs. In fact the campsite is directly across the street and a short walking distance to the historic Bankersmith Dance Hall and Saloon. Guests can enjoy this Texas Original with concerts, festivals most weekends or even just by stopping by for live music (played daily) and a cold drink. The Saloon is open 7 days a week! Food is served daily. Stop in for a burger, a cocktail and live music!
Please do not call us. We are probably out in field working or managing animals. We will not answer.
Campers are of course allowed to bring in food or drink on the campgrounds but it may be easier to enjoy the food from Bankersmith’s Restaurant and Full Bar literally across the street! Hamburgers, Chicken Wings, BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches and a whole lot more (even Fried Bull Testicles)!
This Bankersmith Texas Campground is primitive on site but guests are welcome to use both the restrooms and water sources across the street, in the Saloon, when open. The camping grounds are on a open field close to the entrance of the parking. Campers are not to go through the second gate due to live stock. Please keep your dogs on a leash and do not open gates or interfere with animals.
Be respectful of the wildlife during your stay. You can expect to see Armadillo, Axis Deer, Whitetail, Wild Hogs, Fox, Bobcat, Coyote and Chupacabra.
COVID Update: If you are strong on wearing masks and hiding from people, you should consider another alternative. We love our health, our community, the country AND freedom. We treat everyone like an adult. While you can wear a mask, or two or three, please do not expect us to. There are other locations that will probably suit you better if you are offended by non mask wearing patriots.

The check-in process was simple. Wide open spaces for camping. Not often that you can set up camp within view of a camel! Claire - and all of the staff at Bankersmith were helpful and generous. I over-packed gear, as I wound up spending a lot of my time and eating the great food at Bankersmith. I'll definitely be back.
So much to do!!
We had the best time I can’t Bankermith. The saloon was awesome the music was fabulous! We met some great people we went to see the bats but the bats pulled a no-show, they came out too late. Hopefully next time we will see them. Took a trip into Fredericksburg, had lunch there and walked all around town with our dogs. This was a super stop that I won’t forget and we will definitely try to fit it into our trip next year! Extremely beautiful property.
Beautiful primitive car camping
Camp Bankersmith provided a perfect spot for our camping families to enjoy the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Within a stone’s throw of Fredericksburg, Luckenbach, Comfort, Albert and the Texas Wine Trail, Camp Bankersmith gave us exactly what we needed: space, starry skies and a great location. Unlike other camping locations, we had plenty of room to spread out; we didn’t feel like we were camping on top of the neighbors. It is primitive (no electricity, no water), but we were able to park next to our campsite. Camp Bankershmith provides primitive car camping at its best.
Oasis in the texas hill country
Very cool little place tucked away in the middle of nowhere.
Camels and Clydesdales for the kids to look at - very peaceful.
The little Bankersmith Bar just down the street is a nice bike or golf cart ride away. We loved our first camping experience here and will definitely be back.
Cool location, easy access to Fredericksburg, the the saloon is a really cool place to grab a beer and hang out!
I know others mentioned the camel, but was still really cool to see right then and there. Would definitely come back.
The location was fantastic and very convenient as a one night stop on our way to west Texas. Very charming with the bankersmith bar and grill located close by, and under normal circumstances would be an incredible experience with live music, food, drinks, etc. We happened to be staying overnight on the first weekend following the governor's order to open businesses to full capacity. The process to check in at the bar was extremely concerning for me and my family as it was packed with mask-less people in the midst of a festival. I checked in and received accurate instructions and had a pleasant night in the pasture amongst a few other tent campers and RVs. However, I wasn't comfortable with the amount of people or the absence of appropriate health mitigations during check in. If this doesn't concern you, then it's a great location.
1st harvest host stay, disappointed
Not being able to communicate directly with tbe hosts was frustrating to say the least. That was supposed to be the premise of Harvest Hosts. Instead, the only way to book was to go through an online app that charged me over $40 for a spot in a pasture that was at least a 1/4 mile from the "across the road" saloon, "ghost town", dance hall, etc. The pasture was nice enough, but the road dust that covered our vehicles getting to it - not. When we inquired about eating dinner at the saloon, we were told they were short staffed and only chile was available. We ended up driving into a very crowded Fredericksburg for dinner. The farm animals were enjoyed by our grankids. We wouldn't recommend this place to families for sure.
I even sent messages via text to the listed phone number and through hipcamp app to talk to Claire Bell, host, but got no reply. Communication at its worst.
