Camp sites are in a large cow pasture across the street from Bankersmith Dance Hall and Saloon. All you have to do before setting up camp is check in with the bartender at the Saloon. So, that means you have to check in during business hours (Opens at 4PM on most days. Opens at noon Friday, Sat and Sunday - but always check Facebook). Please don't come expecting Yosemite or the Ritz Carlton. This is as primitive as it gets. Conveniently located in Fredericksburg, Texas off the famous and beautiful Old Highway 9.
A short 9 miles from downtown Fredericksburg, these primitive RV and primitive campsites are close to 290, the Wine Trail, Luckenbach, the Old Bat Tunnel and Alamo Springs. In fact the campsite is directly across the street and a short walking distance to the historic Bankersmith Dance Hall and Saloon. Guests can enjoy this Texas Original with concerts, festivals most weekends or even just by stopping by for live music (played daily) and a cold drink. The Saloon is open 7 days a week! Food is served daily. Stop in for a burger, a cocktail and live music!
Please do not call us. We are probably out in field working or managing animals. We will not answer.
Campers are of course allowed to bring in food or drink on the campgrounds but it may be easier to enjoy the food from Bankersmith’s Restaurant and Full Bar literally across the street! Hamburgers, Chicken Wings, BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches and a whole lot more (even Fried Bull Testicles)!
This Bankersmith Texas Campground is primitive on site but guests are welcome to use both the restrooms and water sources across the street, in the Saloon, when open. The camping grounds are on a open field close to the entrance of the parking. Campers are not to go through the second gate due to live stock. Please keep your dogs on a leash and do not open gates or interfere with animals.
Be respectful of the wildlife during your stay. You can expect to see Armadillo, Axis Deer, Whitetail, Wild Hogs, Fox, Bobcat, Coyote and Chupacabra.
COVID Update: If you are strong on wearing masks and hiding from people, you should consider another alternative. We love our health, our community, the country AND freedom. We treat everyone like an adult. While you can wear a mask, or two or three, please do not expect us to. There are other locations that will probably suit you better if you are offended by non mask wearing patriots.

Ok this place is way cooler than the description. We ended up out there during a weekend w a wine and garlic fest happening and the bar and the host provided us with tickets and so much more to enjoy the fest! The camping is in a field but it’s really beautiful and there are donkeys that are friendly! Bianca helped us check in and she was so friendly and welcoming! Beautiful drive out there and great time camping!!
I highly recommend staying here and plan on staying here again in the near future. Check-in at the Bankersmith bar where my reservation happened to coincide with the garlic and wine festival and we enjoyed some food and wine. Each campsite has its own fire pit are nice and the porta potty was the cleanest I’ve ever seen.
Restorative, refreshing, and fun!
The campsites are clean and quiet. We sat around the fire pit and enjoyed the stars at night. Claire is a great host. She response fast and is extremely welcoming and friendly. The folks at Bankersmith are also warm, friendly, and refreshing. I stayed at the campsite with two buddies and returned the following weekend for a wedding anniversary weekend. Both weekends were amazing! I can’t wait to come home to Bankersmith again. Thanks Claire!
Enjoyable site and fun times!
We loved our time at Bankersmith Campground! It was as expected with an open field/pasture and there were portapotties and fire rings. Grass was mowed and site was well kept.
We checked in with Hannah at the Saloon and directions were easy to follow. Other campers(all RVs) at the ground were welcoming and we had a group fire our first night. Maybe a 10 min walk to the Saloon across the street but worth it! Absolutely adorable. Great food, drinks, and entertainment. Bankersmith itself is close to Fredericksburg and was easily accessible and pretty flat.
This was actually our first time taking our RV out for dry camping and it was so easy. A very enjoyable experience and we’ll definitely be back. Thanks for the good memories!
Beautiful hill country camp spot
We stayed our first night as Harvest Host members — then ended up deciding to stay 2 more nights and booked via Hipcamp.
We had the place to ourselves the last 2 nights, but the spaces were spread out and clean. Saloon is cute and you can get order from an outside window which is nice thanks to Covid. It’s a gorgeous, easy drive from Fredericksburg to the site. Watch out for lots of deer!
Beautiful location, terrible servic
No one answered questions. Instead, i was sent a text saying "text hannah with all Q's", but no contact number for Hannah. Felt like i was dealing with kids. The next morning a very nice gentleman assisted me.
This place is fun! It’s off the beaten path but in the beautiful hill country. The description is accurate, it’s an open field with campsite spots. We stayed four nights and the first two nights there were two campers, and the second two there was one other. We had plenty of space. The bar is great fun, they have live music and food. This is a good spot if you prefer primitive camping in the country
