Our homestead is a few acres in East Texas, near Hawkins. The land has been untouched for about 30 years, maybe last used for cattle grazing. We're keeping the property as natural as possible, we live here off-grid and off-pipe. There’s a 17 acre lake that we share with neighbors. It’s full of bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish, we encourage catch and keep fishing since the lake could use a little fishing pressure. We also have a beaver pond, and resident beaver. Some of the wildlife we see regularly: fireflies, turtles, cardinals, bluejays, hummingbirds, kite birds, frogs, opossums, armadillos, beaver, river otter, road runners and rabbits. These plants live here too: Beautyberry, Dewberry, Pokeberry, Sparkleberry, Dogfennel, Dogwood, Yaupon Holly, Holly, Wax Myrtle, Sassafras , Lyreleaf Sage, Carolina Crane’s bill, Coral Honeysuckle, Western White Honeysuckle, Smooth Cat’s Ear, Daisy Fleabane, Prairie Onion, Mullein, Summer Grape, Water Lily. The entire water lily plant is edible, did you know? Swim, hang out, cool down on the small swimming dock. Canoe and kayak included! It is country living but still close to city action. The lower parts of the property require 4-wheel drive, but the top has water and electricity, so any car is fine. As this is an outdoor area, there are bugs and critters. If there ends up being an interest in hunting we can look into that. This is a primitive site so bring your gear! The stay at Randy and Cheryl‘s hummingbird retreat was fabulous. Had a great reunion with some old friends. Randy and Sheryl were fabulous house. They showed us around the place and told us about all the amenities of which there are many the hot tub the trails the movies, well stocked Cabin exercise room library the animals it was just a really great place to gather we all had a a great time and we’re able to relax and enjoy. Such a beautiful spot! Very quiet, tons of trees, cutesy fire wood, chairs, sinks, trails. Loved my time there. Will definitely book again. 60 acres to roam and I was lucky to catch the leaves changing. They’re serious about allowing dogs off leash. Not an issue for me. I love dogs and enjoyed my several sweet dog visitors.

I very much enjoyed my stay here. Very private and the lake was so peaceful. It’s probably too small for motorboats (that’s a good thing in my book) but big enough for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. I loved hearing the chorus of frogs and the blips of light from the fireflies. It’s not the easiest to get to, but the directions provided by the host were excellent. They meet you at the gate and give you a tour of the facilities. You can text if you have any trouble or questions, but otherwise leave you alone to enjoy your stay. AT&T was one bar, but there is enough clearing for Starlink if you need that. I saw some of the comments saying you need 4wd to get there. You don’t unless it’s been raining. Just take it slow. I never once put it in 4wd. Higher clearance helps but not necessary. If you question this, just contact the host. I’m sure they will advise you on the best decision. Being August in East Texas, I thought I would be miserably hot, but it was about 10 degrees cooler there. The shade from the trees was quite adequate so no need for a canopy. I didn’t have a fire, but firewood is available for a fee. The picnic table is level which is good for cooking on a propane stove. The tent area has some pitch to it. I stay in my Jeep, so I just use rocks for leveling. I would definitely stay here again. I travel extensively staying mostly in primitive public lands. Texas has very few places like that, so I prefer to support local landowners over the commercial campgrounds.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We absolutely loved Vicki and Mikes property! Everything was perfect, they were very quick to respond to anything we needed and Mike came down and gave us a quick tour of the amenities offered around the campground. We tent camped under the beautiful Pines but they also offer a really cute School House, a very neat Teepee, or a spacious Julias Cottage that you can reserve. The restrooms were clean and the decor was the coolest. The outdoor shower house was the best, with hot and cold water available and shampoos and conditioners available makes packing a little lighter. The campground was extremely clean and well maintained and the strung lights through the trees was a wonderful addition. We enjoyed the peace and quiet this campground offered and we are already planning another trip there very soon. Highly recommend. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

The entire water lily plant is edible, did you know? Swim, hang out, cool down on the small swimming dock. Canoe and kayak included! With a name like Bob, you'd think this is a ho-hum location. Or, maybe the fishing is great. Well, the second part is correct. Drive about 10 miles south of Mount Pleasant to this 641-acre wilderness park. The lake is 9,000-surface acres in northeast Texas.

BYOB (bring your own boat) to explore cozy inlets and find your perfect fishing spot. There's Lake Cypress Springs and Lake Monticello, too, for triple the fishing fun. If you didn't bring a boat, the fishing pier offers a chance to get in deeper waters. Anglers love catching largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie.

An old-growth forest gives way to prairie and grasslands. As such, you can see an interesting mix of wildlife here. Around 3.3 miles of trails let you walk or bike. Fall time is great because the huge trees turn red, yellow, and orange.

Up to 75 first-come, first-served campsites with water and electricity. Nine of them are by the water's edge. There are 16 rustic, hike-in campsites.

Great tent sites and clean restrooms and showers! The park is a little small but a good spot for fishing and R&R that is 2 hours from DFW!

Lake Bob Sandlin Primitive Campground
One of my favorite state parks. The trails are well paced and well marked. I have stayed in several number campsites in both areas, 42 and 43 worked great for me. The best is the primitive site down from the trout pond. The site is off the trail and just a short hike from the pond. The trails are clear and wide. There are nice hills and a few rocky spots. Easy hike for kids and the dogs.

Broken Bow Campground
This is an idyllic camp spot. Broken Bow has 8 waterfront campsites which are highly recommended for watching the sun do its thing. The interior loop is tucked in the whistling pines. All of the campsites are super private and spacious. Nearby at the swim area you'll find a floating dock which is perfect for sunbathing and cannonballs.

Lake Bob Sandlin Primitive Campground
Had a blast this past weekend and plan to go back. Definitely will plan on reserving a spot by the water. Stayed at site #49 and was close to restrooms. Super quiet at night and lots of shade during the day with all the trees. Dogs aren't allowed in public swimming area FYI, which is understandable. We're able to find a small trail that led to an area they could play by the water.
