Paradise on Lake Texoma (formerly Paradise Cove) is a beautiful, secluded commercial campground located in the "Big Mineral Arm'' of Lake Texoma. Built in the 80's by the Corps of Engineers, Paradise has been a mainstay of the lake for many years. Recently, the current management team are working to grow Paradise into something special. With a huge focus on community and culture, Paradise has tons of space for people to come together and enjoy the company and also areas to wander off and find a quiet lakeside spot to relax. You'll also be able to catch one of the best breathtaking sunsets on the lake! The wildlife we have on the property is amazing! I have deer that sleep in my front yard, opossums, 600 bird species, and my favorite… the armadillos! We offer Kayaking on the property for a fee. We have a beautiful Hammock Garden free for guests to kick back and relax. Texoma Water Taxi is a text away to give guests a ride anywhere on the lake including restaurants. Rock-N A Ranch is roughly 20 minutes away and offers horseback riding. The Cabins and Campsites are within walking distance from each other but far enough away to create that illusion of privacy. We do have a neighborhood close by but you can’t see or hear them due to the woods.  In my travels, I try to bring back something I’ve seen or learned to help improve the guest experience and environment. You’ll notice little touches of Asia, Mexico, and even Hill Country Texas! We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and treat every guest like family. We’re always a text away! You’ll see us out and about on our golf carts. If you ever need anything just holler (: Check-in time is at 3 pm. Our staff works really hard to make sure everything is perfect for your stay and we can’t guarantee it will be if you arrive before then. Parking, we work really hard to keep our property beautiful. Be sure to park in parking areas only.

In the early 1900’s an iconic red barn was built near the hilltop along the road between the old Mt. Zion community and Collinsville. Later in the 1900’s, the land was mostly abandoned by its owners, but not by the local fishermen! They knew its woodland fishing pond never dried up, and so was able to support a better population of fish. They also dumped a cornucopia of old motorcycles, cars and farm equipment in the front field. What else were you supposed to do with scrap metal in North Texas horse country? In 2002 the Holtzman family purchased the 35 acre tract of land. They dug a front pond for swimming and paddling, buried the scrap metal (although occasional bits of history still work their way up!), restored and brought horses back to the barn, and began consulting with local biologists about supporting native wildlife. April Holtzman launched Camp Tonkawa Outdoor Learning Center on the property to provide a beautiful, safe place for families to explore and learn about nature. Camp Tonkawa continues to host overnight and day camps with educational programing organized around various themes including: Native American culture, nature awareness, basic camping skills, primitive survival, organic gardening, herbology, outdoor cooking, western days, and horsemanship. We also host field trips and frequently conduct Girl Scout journeys for all levels in the "It's Your Planet, Love it!" series. Due to Covid-19, which limited working with groups for our educational programing, we joined Hip Camp where families who could isolate in nature together on our property.

Chigger Hill Ranch

We live on a family owned second, third and working on fourth, generation ranch. We run cattle, sheep and goats and even have a donkey or two at any given time. We also have a few chickens, barn cats and friendly dogs. This is a working ranch, so it is bustling with farm work activities. You can primitive camp in the woods if you want a little less hustle and bustle or by the 20 acre lake if fishing is your passion. We also have a small primitive cabin available by the lake. We also have a canoe and kayak available for rent. You might camp during hay season and you can observe hay cutting, raking, and baling. Or perhaps during pecan season and see pecan harvesting. If you stay during calf weaning season, be prepared to hear lots of mooing and bawling! You can request to add hands on adventures too. Feed Jasper (the head donkey) peppermints, pet the goats and sheep. Feed the chickens, maybe gather eggs. Let us know what you would like to learn about farm/ranch life and we may be able to help you out.

This trailer was produced by Spartan Aircraft Company in Tulsa, OK. Owned by oil tycoon, J. Paul Getty, the factory switched from making airplanes to making trailers shortly after World War II, using the same aluminum and manufacturing process used for the airplanes -- making these some of the finest trailers ever produced. On our property we also have a 1957 Spartan Mansion, a 1955 Spartan Mansion, a 1953 Spartanette, a 1960 Airstream, a 1969 Airstream, a 1963 Avion, and a 1965 Streamline -- all unrestored and in various stages of disrepair. Learn more about this land:The 1959 Imperial Villa is one of the largest and most luxurious trailers produced by Spartan Aircraft Co. This fully-restored vintage park model (10'x45', triple axle) offers all the comforts of home with amazing original mid-century modern furnishings. Step back in time and experience the beauty and tranquility of simpler days on our 11-acre, mostly-wooded homesite. Constructed of aircraft aluminum, the all-original interior is birch accented by walnut and brass. Almost all the furnishings are period pieces, fascinating to see and experience -- like entering a hands-on museum from the 1950s. Nestled in the trees and surrounded on all sides by curtained windows, the interior living space has an open, yet cozy feeling. There's a full-sized bathtub/shower, a full-sized & fully equipped kitchen (though it is not fully stocked with food), an on-demand hot water heater, and a two-ton heat pump which thermostatically controls the climate.

The best camping in Bonham State Park, TX guide

Overview

About

Bonham State Park has 261 acres of sloping hills and lush woodlands to explore, all set around a 65-acre lake. Head down to the water to swim and fish (no permits required), or rent a kayak, canoe, or paddleboat and take in the views from the water. Ffour trails are open to hikers and bikers, including the challenging Bois d'Arc Trail, which links several Civilian Conservation Corps heritage sites. For an overnight stay, pitch your tent or park your RV at Hackberry Hollow Campground, where 21 sites all have easy access to both the trails and the lakeside.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Tent and RV campsites can be booked in advance via the Texas State Parks website.
  2. Campsites can fill up as fast, and it’s recommended to book at least a month in advance, especially during summer and holiday weekends.
  3. The park’s group campsite can only be booked by phone.

When to go

Summer (June through August) is the most popular time to visit Bonham State Park and the best time for swimming and water sports, but the small park rarely gets over-crowded. Hiking is possible year-round—visit in springtime when wildflowers blaze across the prairies or in fall, when autumn leaves blanket the forest floor. Trails can get muddy after rainfall, so dress accordingly.

Know before you go

  • Bonham State Park is located 75 miles northeast of Dallas, or about a 1.5-hour drive away.
  • A daily entrance fee is required in addition to camping fees.
  • Park facilities include restrooms, picnic areas, and a park store selling souvenirs and snacks. Camping areas also have showers, fire rings, and barbecues. Bring everything else you need with you.
