Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close. Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods. Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall. Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake. Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you. The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary. The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge. Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. If you have the need to create a space for a larger group where you can celebrate and make some noise just let us know, we can probably accommodate with special arrangements and at a different location on the property. No road noise at all, we are out here and the only thing you will hear at night is bugs and frogs. Maybe a moo or two occasionally during grazing season. We named all our sites after past and present pets that we hold very dear to our hearts. It was that or some kind of hairy fairy names that you hear everywhere else like serenity or solitude.....blechh... We have a stream that flows year round, a 10-12' sheet waterfall with a swimming hole and a glorious 100' waterfall to hike to, stand under or just sit and enjoy. We have a pond that we are currently developing as a contributing recreational space. We are adding value at a very rapid pace and will be adding to the description as we do. If you book a month out don't be surprised if we have added an outdoor kitchen. Our real toilet outhouses have been added to 3 of our sites. So much cool stuff to do on a really magical property. We want to share so come enjoy. Not one of our campsites are in view or proximity to the others. Very private and lots of solitude. We (as hosts) can be as present or invisible as you like. Access to miles of trails and roads on BLM/Forest Service land for hiking, ATV's, motorcycles and off-roading. Please know to explore responsibly and at your own risk to preserve the land and keep yourself safe. You are also welcome to explore the property with the exception of one space on the upper portion where the owners reside. Views are beyond and nothing man made that is not on the property is visible from the property with the exception of one little red light on a US Cellular tower across the valley. We currently do not provide electricity at the sites but it is in the works. We have both available a short walk from the camp site in a common area. The power is limited to charging tech, some laptop time and the like, It wont run a hairdryer, etc. The WiFi is common use and has the ability to download and make WiFi calls. No guarantee of its suitability for any particular purpose, it will depend on usage in the moment. There is little to no reception up here so please plan ahead. US cellular has property and valley wide reception but that is the only one. Verizon can send texts and messages but is painfully slow or non-existent on internet. Also has voice calls occasionally but don't count on it. All the other cell services we do not know about. If you would like to spend a week or more here and would like a better power/internet solution then let us know. We can set it up for specific needs. Good if you wish to be in an amazing space to work remote or write. We are adding decks for lounging and views, a solar and wood heated community Jacuzzi for our guests and an outdoor shower tub as we speak and will add pictures as the projects are completed. We welcome ATV's, side by sides, 4x4's, snowmobiles and other such fun rec stuff but will require you to ride/drive on the bazillion acres of BLM land. It is on two sides of the property and a short distance. Riding on and off the property is limited to 10 mph to limit dust and noise and safety for everyone on the property. Please let us know if you plan on bringing any toys so we can notify the others on the property and send additional info, rules and such. There are several wineries on the road between us and Ashland. If you get drunk please arrange a ride or contact us for help. We support not driving while under the influence and will support you. we also have several responsible persons that live on the property and can be hired to drive/guide you on tours. We are in the process of creating wine tours of the valley which will include a driver. We have several lakes within 10-30 minutes for boating, and other water sports. Rock climbing is also available with the local sport crag within 25 minutes, castle crags is about 2 hrs away and several other small crags and bouldering around the valley 30 min.-1.5 hrs. Instruction and guiding are available if you or your group would like to learn. Equipment provided. Inquire. We can provide certain camping amenities if you need them. This is a great location if you are traveling or road tripping to any destination along the West Coast of North America! Take a day trip to Crater Lake and Diamond Lake. We also recommend that you visit the Galesville reservoir about 5 minutes up the road. The yurt has a queen sized loft bed with cotton sheets, a warm cotton comforter with duvet cover, a woodstove, and a folding mattress. You are also welcome to bring your own sleeping gear. *LEAVE NO TRACE, just as you would when camping = please pack out your own trash* There is a wood stove for the winter months, a solar powered refrigerator, a propane stove and oven, along with a sink, and kitchen countertop space. Basic kitchen ware like: utensils, plates, bowls, Italian stove top coffee maker, off grid blender, cooking pots, pans, etc. We provide plant based dish soap, hand soaps, and shampoo. There is a composting toilet and outdoor shower with a propane water heater for warm showers. Please bring your own bath towel. Please confirm you can walk up a staircase. There is a picnic table in the pasture, with several wooden log type chairs. There is internet available on the picnic table by the main house front deck. Connect to the internet via ethernet. We have a usb-c converter, an Apple converter, and a usb drive to access the internet through ethernet. This is a glamping experience, partially off-grid, and we hope that you take the time to unplug. All of our farm goods are available for sale. Be sure to ask about orchard raised fresh eggs, neighbor's milk, seasonal fruit jam, fresh fruit and berries, vegetables, and sprouted nut butter. We are located near the Galesville Reservoir and about 1.5 hours from Crater Lake. The site is easily accessible. NOTE: Please be aware that the mosquitos can be very bad here at times. Power has recently been going out more frequently due to the Pacific Power's "advanced safety settings". When the power is out the well pump is out, so there is no water. I am happy to provide buckets of river water for "flushing toilets" and pay for showers at the Klamoya Travel Center. Our property has been in business in one way or another for over 70 years. The stick built cabins are pre 1950's and no one really knows for sure how old they truly are. We are located on Fort Creek named after the creek that ran through Fort Klamath. Fort Creek is a beautiful 30' wide meandering creek that runs the length of the property north to south. We offer free use of our Old Town Canoes to paddle along it's extent and on up creek to a beaver damn. Our property has been in business in one way or another for over 70 years. The stick built cabins are pre 1950's and no one really knows for sure how old they truly are. We are located on Fort Creek named after the creek that ran through Fort Klamath. Fort Creek is a beautiful 30' wide meandering creek that runs the length of the property north to south. We offer free use of our Old Town Canoes to paddle along it's extent and on up creek to a beaver damn. There is a fun hiking trail that runs over two bridges that span the creek, one covered and one floating. We also offer free catch and release fishing, there are Rainbow and Brown Trout in our waters. Fort Klamath is the birthplace and home of the US Army 1st Cavalry and our property is located on the the Forts Southeastern grounds. We are 9 miles from the southern border of the National Park and 23 miles from the southern Rim and Rim Village. Please note: We do allow pets in some of our sites for $10 per night. This place is a must stay. We had an amazing time camping here, even if it was so freaking cold the night we stayed. We utilized the free canoe and it was well worth it. The store has everything you need, is reasonably priced, and everyone that works there is so nice. Would recommend and if I'm back around Crater Lake I'll be back for sure.

Hideouts HipCamp Review I loved this place! Partly the location and partly the very nice people there. About the location: it's not for everyone,; it is a bit of a drive including 5 miles on a scrabble road that is fine. But you get out and away from everyone and into a beautiful spot with a great view. It’s also rather rustic that I like that soon they will have a bath house and it’ll be different. There’s an example of how they were nice to me: I am 72 years old and have some mobility issues. they were very cognizant of it and helped me get around a little bit. That was very sweet. I would come back every year if I could.

Such an amazingly gorgeous spot! We felt like we were in a movie. So glad we went in the fall. So many beautiful colors. Russel, the ranch manager was very accommodating and professional. I can’t wait to go back. We did have some rain while we were there and since you have to remove your shoes before entering the cabin, it would be nice to put a shoe tray on the floor for our shoes because the awning on the front door is too small to protect our shoes from rain if left outside. My daughter also thinks some battery or solar string lights inside the cabin would be a nice touch. But all in all it was fabulous. We slept so good. We did a 6 mile hike to the gorge and It was just so incredibly peaceful and beautiful. Thank you.

Having hot water in the bathrooms was really nice; Tracy also provided a small propane heater for the tent and there’s a very warm comforter on the bed. Would have loved to stay longer!

Brad and Jen met us as we arrived and guided us to our spot, which is the middle of a grassy area just behind their home. Sitting between their lovely animals, we spent two nights recovering from a 5 week cross country and through Oregon (twice) and Washington state. It was quiet enough and they have a great picnic area to use. We are a 33’ fifth wheel and we brought some limbs down as we came into the property. If you are at or larger than 13’3” height, I would speak to either Brad or Jen first to ensure those have been cut back so you can get in and out with damaging your roof or destroying their lovely trees and shrubs. Thanks, guys! We had a great stay with you.

Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close. Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods. Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall. Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake. Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you. The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary. The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge. Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. If you have the need to create a space for a larger group where you can celebrate and make some noise just let us know, we can probably accommodate with special arrangements and at a different location on the property. No road noise at all, we are out here and the only thing you will hear at night is bugs and frogs. Maybe a moo or two occasionally during grazing season. We named all our sites after past and present pets that we hold very dear to our hearts. It was that or some kind of hairy fairy names that you hear everywhere else like serenity or solitude.....blechh... We have a stream that flows year round, a 10-12' sheet waterfall with a swimming hole and a glorious 100' waterfall to hike to, stand under or just sit and enjoy. We have a pond that we are currently developing as a contributing recreational space. We are adding value at a very rapid pace and will be adding to the description as we do. If you book a month out don't be surprised if we have added an outdoor kitchen. Our real toilet outhouses have been added to 3 of our sites. So much cool stuff to do on a really magical property. We want to share so come enjoy. Not one of our campsites are in view or proximity to the others. Very private and lots of solitude. We (as hosts) can be as present or invisible as you like. Access to miles of trails and roads on BLM/Forest Service land for hiking, ATV's, motorcycles and off-roading. Please know to explore responsibly and at your own risk to preserve the land and keep yourself safe. You are also welcome to explore the property with the exception of one space on the upper portion where the owners reside. Views are beyond and nothing man made that is not on the property is visible from the property with the exception of one little red light on a US Cellular tower across the valley. We currently do not provide electricity at the sites but it is in the works. We have both available a short walk from the camp site in a common area. The power is limited to charging tech, some laptop time and the like, It wont run a hairdryer, etc. The WiFi is common use and has the ability to download and make WiFi calls. No guarantee of its suitability for any particular purpose, it will depend on usage in the moment. There is little to no reception up here so please plan ahead. US cellular has property and valley wide reception but that is the only one. Verizon can send texts and messages but is painfully slow or non-existent on internet. Also has voice calls occasionally but don't count on it. All the other cell services we do not know about. If you would like to spend a week or more here and would like a better power/internet solution then let us know. We can set it up for specific needs. Good if you wish to be in an amazing space to work remote or write. We are adding decks for lounging and views, a solar and wood heated community Jacuzzi for our guests and an outdoor shower tub as we speak and will add pictures as the projects are completed. We welcome ATV's, side by sides, 4x4's, snowmobiles and other such fun rec stuff but will require you to ride/drive on the bazillion acres of BLM land. It is on two sides of the property and a short distance. Riding on and off the property is limited to 10 mph to limit dust and noise and safety for everyone on the property. Please let us know if you plan on bringing any toys so we can notify the others on the property and send additional info, rules and such. There are several wineries on the road between us and Ashland. If you get drunk please arrange a ride or contact us for help. We support not driving while under the influence and will support you. we also have several responsible persons that live on the property and can be hired to drive/guide you on tours. We are in the process of creating wine tours of the valley which will include a driver. We have several lakes within 10-30 minutes for boating, and other water sports. Rock climbing is also available with the local sport crag within 25 minutes, castle crags is about 2 hrs away and several other small crags and bouldering around the valley 30 min.-1.5 hrs. Instruction and guiding are available if you or your group would like to learn. Equipment provided. Inquire. We can provide certain camping amenities if you need them. The yurt has a queen sized loft bed with cotton sheets, a warm cotton comforter with duvet cover, a woodstove, and a folding mattress. You are also welcome to bring your own sleeping gear. *LEAVE NO TRACE, just as you would when camping = please pack out your own trash* There is a wood stove for the winter months, a solar powered refrigerator, a propane stove and oven, along with a sink, and kitchen countertop space. Basic kitchen ware like: utensils, plates, bowls, Italian stove top coffee maker, off grid blender, cooking pots, pans, etc. We provide plant based dish soap, hand soaps, and shampoo. There is a composting toilet and outdoor shower with a propane water heater for warm showers. Please bring your own bath towel. Please confirm you can walk up a staircase. There is a picnic table in the pasture, with several wooden log type chairs. There is internet available on the picnic table by the main house front deck. Connect to the internet via ethernet. We have a usb-c converter, an Apple converter, and a usb drive to access the internet through ethernet. This is a glamping experience, partially off-grid, and we hope that you take the time to unplug. All of our farm goods are available for sale. Be sure to ask about orchard raised fresh eggs, neighbor's milk, seasonal fruit jam, fresh fruit and berries, vegetables, and sprouted nut butter. We are located near the Galesville Reservoir and about 1.5 hours from Crater Lake. The site is easily accessible.
