Peace and quiet
I will give this camping site five stars. There are a few minor things that might make it better but I think it’s so cool someone owns 80 acres and allows only one camper to stay there. Thank you Daniel! Despite a very busy tourist time of the year, this site was very quiet and remote.
My rig was a 20 ft bumper pull camper and my truck 20 ft. There was plenty of room for me to drive in, turn around and maneuver. Finding a level site can be a little bit challenging but there are several good spots. You will drive on 5 to 7 miles of gravel road to get there. Just take your time as most the curves are slow speed curves anyway. It really is in the center of the Black Hills and close to about everything. If you are used to dispersed camping and like your privacy this site is for you.
I have been hesitant to review this place for fear of sounding overenthusiastic but it was just magical. A bit daunting at first as I was a single woman traveling alone with a seven year old but it was a perfect spot for us. The views were breathtaking, the road in was a bit rough (I'd take it slow if you have a low slung vehicle) but totally worth it. We booked this sight last minute and I was a bit underprepared and could have used more water and some bear spray for some peace of mind. I will definitely be returning to this camp though! I could spend a week (or more) on this mountain top with the birds and the raspberries.
Daniel has a great place aboit an hour outside of Chicago. We spent one night there and arrived late. Daniel met me in the driveway and guided us to our spot. Daniel has a lot of trees with low hanging branches lining the driveway. If you have a taller RV like mine itnis helpful to have a son like mine ride on top and bend them out of the way.
Thanks again Daniel for your hospitality.
