Aaaaa how lovely!!! Truely magical, with the expansive grounds so intentionally managed. Tom is an excellent guide and teacher about the herbs, grasses, and trees that fill the land. On the map it looks so close to town, and feels that way as you drive up, but once you're on the property at least half of the campsites feel far far away from the feeling of Averdeen. The trainyard makes unreal music throughout the night, if you're a light sleeper this spot will be difficult for you, I don't sleep soundly anyway when I camp so the trainsounds didn't keep me up any more than the other slight discomforts of camping like cold nights and hard ground.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and the site itself is strange and magical miniature forest with plenty of large camp sites hidden away among its meandering paths. The trains are quite loud at night but it also adds to the ambiance of the place since you are essentially camping in the middle of the town.

Margaret greeted us at the house and brought us to a huge field where we picked out our spot. It was beautiful with a hammock and lots of space. Tom, the caretaker has made wonderful trails through the woods, with interesting sculptures, lights and little fairy houses.
Margaret was so kind as to drive out in the middle of the night to tell us about a storm arriving and invited us to stay in the house.
Only issue is there is a train yard next door, and it can be pretty noisy, but didn’t really notice it overnight. All in all, a wonderful place and a great price.

This site was amazing! Totally unexpectedly perfect! Our two boys, 7yrs & 10yrs, had a blast exploring. Margaret was very sweet, they even had a fire started for us at the site when we arrived. Highly recommend staying here if you can!

Beautiful site!
We were able to get a 32ft RV in without issues
The Easton Castle team was very helpful with firewood and even got us a 15amp Edison so we could run some minimal items in our RV.

The site is near a industrial area and train tracks. I was a little surprised to hear trains blowing horns and starting and stopping very close through most of the night. We were in a RV so it wasn’t to bad but I am sure something with lighter walls wouldn’t be as forgiving.

All in all we would stay again, Margaret was very friendly and easy to contact and ask questions.

Loved the castle and had 2 tours one with Tandy and one with Margaret. They were so awesome.. It will be interesting to see how the campground developes in the next few years, thank you.. The hosts were charming and gracious, we enjoyed our tour through the woods with Tom.. it would be great to have some larger sites especially for taller campers, and my only dissapointment was not hsving a firepit close to my site, as we like to cook over the fire .

How could you find a site without a firepit? That puzzles me. Margaret.

This is a piece of history that is lovingly trying to be saved by the owner.
It is unique and interesting and has so much potential. I was met by the “handyman” who showed me to my site. There was a very nice fire area with tent space. I spent the night in my van and aside from the nearby train yard I slept good.
The host was full of interesting information about this little gem. Definitely worth a visit!

We needed a quick place to camp on a 2,000+ mile drive, and of course being weary in the times of Covid. This place was perfect! Very spacious with multiple sites to choose from. The sites range from personal to group, and they were all well kept and each had a personal style. If you’re in SD, camp here. We definitely will again.
