I had an amazing time camping here in my camper van. The property is so beautiful and peaceful, more than anything I could’ve imagined. There were so many species of birds and deer. It was unforgettable. Thank you so much for hosting me!
Beautiful & busy
Great place for the price! The spots are all right off the road. I was expecting secluded and quiet based on the other reviews, and it was more like a campground where you're very visible to everyone else, but as long as you know that, its fine.
Bugs and frogs were as mentioned in other reviews, but, again, that's to be expected when camping near small ponds with lots of vegetation. We didn't get in the pond at all, but chose to bathe (clothed) at the nearby beach.
We thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely half-hour walk to the beach, (you can drive as well and its more like 3 minutes then-I wish we had thought to bring our bicycles!) and the scenery is gorgeous!! At low tide, you do kinda sink into the pluff mud a few inches, and there were oyster beds to look out for, but we saw wild dolphins and loved the woods nearby for shade and birdsong!
We also fell in love with the area of Saint Helena/Lady's Island/Beaufort. The restaurants were adorable and there is a drive-in theater only about a half hour drive away.
Our kids, had they been with us, would have loved seeing the horses go by at the campsite and meeting the people that would stop by to catch little fish from the pond. There was plenty of firewood to be collected, and sparse trees and bushes for a little bit of privacy when needing to relieve oneself. Everywhere to go was still somewhat visible during the day to the neighboring houses (one of which happened to be having a late night party) and roads, but hopefully no one was looking at the time lol
If we were to come back with the kids one day, we will bring one of those small, personal popup "outhouse" or shower tents for going potty, earplugs, a white noise machine (I just downloaded an app on my phone this time.), eye masks to block out headlights, etc. and then it'd be fine! The oaks were gorgeous, and we did have some nice, quiet moments of rest and relaxation. We'll definitely be back to the area!
Had a blast during our stay and will definitely be returning! It was a gorgeous drive in and we were able to secure a spot right next to the pond. Some reviews mentions bugs but we hardly noticed any at all. Perfect little get away for the weekend 💕
I was less than impressed with this campsite. The majority of the site was flooded, there was no place to build a fire and the locals were not very hospital. I know it's called low country, I just didn't know I'd be sleeping in a puddle.
Short stay but amazing!!!
We only stayed for one night, but it was such a fun experience. The horses were a lot closer than expected so that was a bonus! We were a very short drive, possibly a 45 min walk from a quaint, little beach with lots of beautiful palmettos and pines. A perfect stay for enjoying one of South Carolina’s prettiest places!
Pleasant but barking dogs
For the price it was a really nice little place to pitch a tent. Bring: bug spray (the bugs weren't too awful compared to the noseeums near the beach) and fire wood (you can find some wood in the surroundings to cook, but not enough for a fire to sit around all night). The only issue I had was the dogs barking through the night and into the morning. I don't know whose dogs they were but it made it very difficult to sleep (borq borq)
