My daughter and i camped over the weekend at Sheris place on Prudence Island. It was an amazing experience we wont ever forget! It started out a bit rocky because traffic through new york city delayed us and we missed our reservation on the last ferry to the island. We were sad missing one of our two nights of vacation until Sheri so graciously agreed to let us stay until Monday! Our hosts couldnt have been more kind and generous.
The campsite is located in Sheris yard and very close to the full (real) bathroom in sheris basememt, it was clean and convenient to charge our phones in and take hot showers after our full day of exploration. THERE IS SO MUCH TO EXPLORE! We hiked trails that led to magicsl vistas of the Narragansett bay and trails that led to old farm ruins, magical forest groves and shell filled beaches where we collected bags of shells. The sunsets and sunrises we experienced were more beautiful than i have ever seen.
The night we arrived was graduation night for the ONE 2021 graduate who graduated from the one room schoolhouse on the island, it seemed like the whole island attended the ceremony. It was like stepping bavk in time. No shops, no billboard, no tourists, no traffic, no sad people. This island is just filled with JOY and you cant help but feel it!! Sheri made us her delicious Rhode Island clam chowder from.clams she collected the day before our arrival...it was very tasty, i cant say that i have ever enjoyed clams as much as i did in sheris chowder!
My first morning on the islamd i walked from sheris backyard to the most gorgeous overlook and watched the sunrise in all its glory . Didnt see one person it was like i had the entire bay to myself! The air is just differemt on Prudence Island! When i got back to the campsite Sheri made us breakfast and we got to sit down with her and her husbsnd and have a lovely meal together which we so much appreciated! Then my daughter and i explored old farm ruins where they have the coolest disc golf course in the middle of the woods and among old stacked rock walls and fences ..truly the coolest disc golf course ive ever seen!!
I cant say enough what this weekend did for my spirit. Prudence island has renewed and recharged me and we will definitely be back!! We cant thank our hosts enougb for offering such a once in a lifetime experience to people who may not be able to afford a vacation of this caliber. This is the vacation dreams are made of!! WE LOVE HIPCAMP!!
