It’s autumn, and Scotch Forest is the place to be if you want to witness nature’s artistic display of vivid fall colors. Primarily consisting of maple trees, Scotch Forest will not disappoint in lack of fall foliage. Don’t forget your camera. The geese are also back, a short walk to lake Denison will allow you to observe them, or a 6 minute drive into Danville, where at Burbank Pond up to 100 000 geese congregate each evening at dusk in the fall. It is also the perfect time to go apple or pumpkin picking, a list of these and other options will be sent to you in your welcoming message.
Fall promotion: for every 3 bundles of firewood purchased, you will get a 100g bag of freshly ground locally roasted coffee.
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Eastern Townships lies Scotch Forest. Here you can live amongst the hardwood trees, let go, and immerse yourself in nature’s beauty. Peace and tranquillity await you, along with a sense of calmness and healing from being absolutely submersed in nature. Experience the birds singing in harmony, the breeze whispering through the branches, water trickling down a nearby creek, ferns and wildflowers dancing in the wind, animals scampering amidst the leaves on the forest floor, fresh sweet smelling air, moss-covered rocks, field berries, and the sunlight peeking through the forest canopy. Feel free to wander the trails of the 100 acre wood, including an old road once used by horse and buggy, explore the brooks, or hang out in the meadow and watch the sun set, or stargaze.
We are in the Eastern Townships, 1hr 30min east of Montreal. Centrally located to explore the Eastern Townships, Bois Franc and Centre du Quebec regions, or a 1 hour drive to hop over the US border. Our region boasts some of the nicest biking trails in Quebec, made partly from old railway lines that have since been removed. Just a 5 minute drive brings you to the « route verte #1 » in Danville with a nice parking, picnic area and direct access to the piste cyclable (bike path). If hiking is more your thing then you are in luck. The Appalachian Mountains run through the Eastern Townships and present you with an array of choices to fulfill your trekking needs. Rivers and lakes are also in abundance offering you opportunities to fish, swim or kayak.
My wife, myself and our 3 girls look forward to hosting you on our land in the wooded hillside of Denison Mills, a picturesque area with a lake, forests, fields, farms, an old flour mill, a church, and winding country roads. We have a friendly dog and chickens and live in a log home I built for our family. Various workshops such as making stained glass, beeswax products, mindfulness, log furniture making, and kids crafts can be reserved and made available on weekends. If you’re interested, during booking you can select the workshop of your choice as an extra add on option.
Your private site is situated in the heart of the forest along a deer trail. It is equipped with a 12’x12’ platform to keep you high and dry, a fire pit with a grill, and a log picnic table. I want you to feel at home in your own space in the forest, so each site is conceived a good distance apart from the other. You will be surrounded by maple, ash, beech, birch, butternut, cherry and hemlock trees. The ground is carpeted with leafage. In the spring, before the leaves emerge on the trees, there are delicate forest flowers everywhere, leaving a subtle perfume lingering in the air. Then the fiddle heads arrive and transform into ferns, and before you know it, you are enveloped with vibrant green foliage, and mushrooms start poking up through the forest floor and field berries galore. Then, in the blink of an eye the forest foliage will magically transform again into vivid fall colors and it’s sweet, sweet scent. The ferns will turn rust-colored, and the nuts will fall off the trees. Sunsets will prevail once again throughout the forest, as squirrels scamper to store their harvest and we all prepare for the changing of yet another season.
There is good cell reception. Your site does not have electricity and is not accessible by vehicle. Potable water is available in the garden, and there is a dry compostable toilet (outhouse) at your disposition. It is less than a 5 minute walk to get there. If you have a lot of gear, cooler, etc., consider our transport service extra option when booking. The terrain is hilly and you won’t regret it. In addition, there will be extra options during checkout to enhance your stay. Examples of these include firewood, cookware (kitchen kit), transport service, solar shower kit, kids crafts, local produce, fresh water, popcorn, s’mores, coffee and espresso kits, baked items, farm fresh eggs, and workshops.
Please note, kitchen available means a wood fire pit with a grill. If you require kitchen amenities then check out our extra options.
ALSO, consider opting for the transport service (EXTRA OPTIONS), the terrain is hilly and it is a nice luxury not having to carry all of your stuff in and back out.
We have the highest respect for nature and we strive to be environmentally friendly. Our firewood is harvested from dead and/or fallen trees from wind storms. Materials used for HipCamp come from the land (lumber, rocks, sand, clay, etc.), or are upcycled from neighbouring buildings that have collapsed, and items that would otherwise be thrown out and thus given a second life. We hope you too appreciate the environment, and benefit by reducing your impact during your stay. That said, we are happy to offer you recycling and composting options however, we challenge you to keep your garbage to a minimum.
Within a 5-20 minute drive:
You can experience kayaking down the St. Francis River, amazing biking paths including “La Vallée” (biking along an old railway line) and “La Rive” (a bike path along the St. Francis River), walking trails through the marsh at Burbank with excellent bird watching, a public beach on Three Lakes, art galleries, museums, quaint restaurants and cafés, micro breweries, wineries, a distillery, farmers’ markets, berry picking, cheese makers, local producers, walking and biking trails, golf courses, live shows, and more. If you want to drive a little further there is the Mont Ham regional park, Mont Orford national park, Yamaska national park and beaches such as the Magog municipal beach with great walking & biking paths, picnic area, and park with great views of lake Memphrémagog. Furthermore there is the Granby Zoo, Amazoo water park, Bromont water slides and mountain biking. A detailed list will be provided in your welcoming email. Or, if you wish to leave your car parked, then feel free to hike in our forest, take a stroll down the country road to feed the donkeys, check out the farm animals, see beautiful lake Denison, the old flour mill, and the little church. We also have a couple of bikes we can rent to you cheap (see extra options).
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or inquiries. We are bilingual (français et anglais). Again, I will be sending you some awesome Google links to help you plan your stay. These will include places to eat, local attractions, hiking, biking, walking trails and more. We look forward to welcoming you, and will do our utmost to ensure your stay is a memorable and pleasant one.

Don’t hesitate , stay here!
Wow. A beautiful, private spot in the middle of a forest. The platform was great, the fire pit was perfect and I loved the added touches (picnic table complete with a little pumpkin and flowers from the forest). There’s beautiful trails to explore and the outhouse was super clean and comfortable. We enjoyed an autumnal weekend surrounded by fall colours. Billy was an exceptional host (as well as Mika). Don’t skip the eggs, they are the best I’ve had in Quebec. All in all, a magical stay. Can’t wait to bring my friends here next summer.
Beautiful site in the woods
We had a great time staying on Billy’s property. We tented for one night with our dog. The site was very nicely set up for us and was only a few minutes walk from our car so we were able to make multiple trips easily. We also ordered a half dozen eggs and some firewood for our stay. The eggs were super fresh and delicious. The firewood was waiting for us at our site under a tarp and was enough for us to have an evening and morning fire.
Billy was a very friendly and gracious host. He was happy to talk about his property and its history and was very communicative as well.
Magical place, beautiful land. For a quiet night in the forest. The bathroom was unbelievably clean and built like it was straight out of a Tim Burton movie. We could hear owls at night and saw a deer during our walk in the woods. Very nice garden and warm welcome. Billy is a very attentionate host. Will go back and would recommend to anyone! :)
Best camping experience!!
One of the best, if not the best, camping experience we’ve had! Billy and his family are great hosts!! Very nice, friendly, and considerate. They welcomed us with a basket of apples and flowers and he helped us carry our luggage to the site. The compost washroom is very clean! Overall, great host, great site (in the middle of a forest!!), and great location! I would definitely recommend!
Beautiful private forest experience
We knew looking at this listing that it was a good fit for us, but when we arrived our expectations were entirely exceeded. Our hosts were so hospitable and just wanted to make sure we were comfortable. It's easy to see they really care for their property and their home (which is so incredibly unique!) so it felt like such a great privilege to be invited to stay there. The tent platform is an amazing feature too because we got some rain and it keeps your tent nice and dry. Also despite the rain we got, the forest canopy offers amazing coverage. They also offered us some fresh tomato and basil from their garden that we got to eat for dinner. The smells and sounds were really relaxing and definitely the quiet escape we needed from the city. It was truly one of the best camping trips we've had in a while and we were sad to leave at checkout. We were also intrigued by the workshops offered and plan to do some when we come back!
Amazing trip !!!
When your here your home!
On arrival we were greeted by a custom sign with our names on it and some flowers ( hand picked by the family). The campsite is an immersive experience in the woods, surounded by mature trees , it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature (very private). You can go rustic but trust me you will want to try the other options they have to offer ( local coffee, vegan pop corn on the fire etc). They are very responsive and organised. Before arrival we recieved an email with a list of things to do in the surounding area, this made it easy to plan our trip and to book a second night.
