Pitch your tent in the woods along the Little Schuylkill River at the base of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary at Hawk Shadow Farm. Very private camping, we are not a commercial camp ground. We have 150 acres of farm for your enjoyment. Private camping, non commercial, at its best in just a very special location.
We have three campsites. We will consider 1 night stays, please contact for availability and pricing. We will also consider more than 8 campers. Please inquire!
Each site has a picnic table, a Hawk Shadow Out House, water to wash with and a good bundle of firewood for each night. Firewood is kept in water proof plastic containers. There Is a shovel, cooking grates and log benches.
Campsite #1 (Lean To Site) is along the river. It is private and lovely. You may park your car above the site and walk down to the river and camping area. Very private, lots of space. It is perfect. Lean to is gone, needs to be rebuilt! Walk is a about 50 yards.
Campsite #2 (Dog Gone Site) is also along the river. It too is private and has the same set up as site one. Park your car on top of hill and walk on down. It is a lovely spot. Walk is about 50 yards.
Campsite #3 (High Site) is above the river and looks over Hawk Mountain and the farm. It is private with beautiful views. Sunrise, Sunset, Moon rise, Bird watching, all very visible from this site. River can be accessible depending on our reservations. Car accessible, no walking to campsite.
Different seasons bring different activities. Spring Kayaking and hiking, summer hiking or tubing, cooling off in the swim hole, fall raptor watching and biking plus trout fishing in the Little Schuylkill. The nights are dark with star lit skies. We have a 2 acre bass pond on the farm for fishing, so bring your rod. Your camp site is surrounded by woods and forest.
You are a two hour drive from center city Philadelphia and 2.5 hours from down town New York City.
What to do here? Plenty! Hawk Mountain Sanctuary entrance is only 3 miles away, you can walk, it is straight up however! Both entrances to the Appalachian Trail, Eckville and Port Clinton, are a 10 minuet drive. A visit to Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, Americas older brewery, is a 26 minute drive. Jim Thorpe is a fourty five minute drive. Kutztown University is 35 minutes away. The heart of Amish Country is an hour drive. And Cabela's in Hamburg is just 15 minutes down the road. But most of all to do here is to relax, fish, play in the river, walk and visit with your family and friends.
Please see schuylkillriver.org for more information about our area. Hawk Shadow is located between New Ringgold and Port Clinton.
There is plenty of local produce, we can provide or can give you directions to our local farm stands. Fresh butchers are not far away. Winerys and distillery's rather close. Restaurants and bars about 5 miles away. Swap meets and antique auction houses are scattered around the area. This location and campsite is a gem. We have many necessities available at the farm for your personal needs.
Yes, you can drive to the area of the campsite, but no, you cannot drive to campsite #1 and #2. It is a walk down the hill. Site 3 is car friendly. Contact me and I will give you as much information as I can.

What a pleasure. A well kept campsite with plenty of amenities, out of site of the car and all other people, felt very private and with the beautiful lazy river rolling through. Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the welcoming setup and responsive communication!
Beautiful spot & great hosting
Truly appreciative of our time at Susan's: this is a beautiful spot, made even better by really thoughtful hosting and site design. We were at Site 2 and had an incredible two night stay (wish it was longer!). Susan provided clear directions and a handful of great options/amenities including a super helpful kitchen box, very dry and ready wood, cooking grates, tables, benches and a working hose/sink for dishes. The site it totally private with a river flowing in background (a short beautiful walk to banks). Highly recommended... and definitely left with plans in place for a return and sharing with more friends.
Six of us stayed at Site #1 and had a great time. It was private, quiet, and had great river access and tree cover. The fire ring, seating, tables and washing stations were really
nice amenities.

Ellen, a big thanks for your review. We are looking for the bees, so glad no one was stung. Spring has sprung and all the creatures are surely gathering. Please come again. And thank you for being our guest!
Stellar riverside camp experience!
This was an absolute diamond of a campsite. My family is experienced campers, who love a touch of glamp, and we found it all right here. Rolled in for a long weekend and communication through the app and text was right on. Easy location to find, great directions into the camp locale. Request and received yummy fresh eggs through the mailbox system - get yourself some and you won't have to transport them in!
I can honestly say where we stayed (Site #1) will not be for everyone - there is medium risk/effort involved in transporting goods and people up and down the steep path, but if you're a hiker, or are fine with walking your own gear into a site, it's a piece of cake (plus, they offer a wheelbarrow to help out! So nice!) Firewood is offered at the top of the camp, in convenient bundles for a good price.
The river is wonderful - and you can see geese and ducks easily from one of the many sightseeing spots built into the shore line. The hawks are visible on the higher mountains. Bring your boat or kayak and you can have a great adventure for the day.
Everything about this camp was terrific - well thought out bucket loo and supplies, easily accessible firewood, plenty of tools and space to spread out and do your thing. Our party greatly enjoyed the view, the trees and the non-existent neighbors - quiet was the name of the game, and it doesn't get much more relaxing than this. Thank you Susan and Jenn for giving us a marvelous experience!!

Jessica, what a wonderful review. I am so very happy that all went well while camping here a Hawk Shadow. And, since I am not home, I am thrilled that Jenn is doing such a fine job. I had no doubt, but to confirm it is wonderful. Please come and visit again. I know the hike up and down with the stuff is difficult. Don't know how to make it easier. Thanks for being our guest. Susan Your eggs are from the neighbors, completely organic, free range, back yard, delicious eggs.
Had an amazing time with family and dogs. The campsite felt so remote, yet it was so convenient. Susan and her assistant Jenn were wonderful hosts.

Love your little lean to. My big one fell down last summer at site 1. It is on the list of things to do. Going to put them at all sites. Thanks Abby for camping with us. Susan
Hi all, we camped on this incredible property the 1st weekend of November. It was our 2nd stay there in 6 weeks. Susan's property is fantastic! Once again, beautiful scenery, especially with the leaves at full peak color. We stay at site #3, as we have a rooftop tent. The river sites are awesome, but we really enjoy the scenery we get at site #3. Overlooking Hawk Mountain, stars, moon, abundance of sunshine, and we still have our own access to the river. We will be back again for our 3rd stay as soon as the weather warms up again in the spring.
Thanks again Susan for your hospitality and incredible property.
See you again in the spring. Maybe earlier if we have a nice weekend this winter.
Thanks Susan,
Be well,
Shawn D.

Another wonderful review. So much appreciate it! Site 3 is my favorite, just for the reasons you list. The other ones are super cool to just hand at the river, but those skies. See you soon and a big Thank You!
A hidden gem by the river
I tried squeezing in one last camping trip after the season was over, and unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate with most of my plans - but I can't wait to come back in the spring. This place is gorgeous, peaceful, and well-equipped. The drive in brings you on a dirt road through rolling hills of Christmas trees in neatly lined rows, and you navigate by colored cones that point the way towards your campsite. The parking area for Site 1 was clearly marked and just a short (but steep) walk through a well-defined path to get to the campsite, where every basic amenity you could ask for is waiting for you: fire pit with plenty of seating and some starter wood, a picnic table, a workbench, some basic tools to keep the site clean like shovels and a rake, a washing station, garbage bin, and an outhouse. There was more wood available for purchase at the top of the hill, but since it's stored outdoors, a rainy weekend made it hard to get a fire going with it (the hosts prohibit bringing your own wood due to worries about the Spotted Lanternfly). Everything was very well maintained for a rustic campsite. With the exception of some trains that passed somewhere nearby a few times overnight, the area is incredibly calm and peaceful. Can't wait to come back in better weather.

This was my third time back to this site. As always no complaints and can't wait to return!

Thank you Seth! I am so glad you guys have a good time. A perfect place to chill and enjoy life. Take care!
