Hey and welcome to Camp Douglass, our little hidden oasis along the Schuylkill River. Come by to relax and unwind without necessarily needing to leave your creature comforts at home.
🏕 The camp area consists of a large cleared out section of the forest, two picnic tables, and a metal fire pit. Here you have beautiful views across and up the Schuylkill river with no houses in sight. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to reach the camp on foot from the parking area via a flat, clean trail.
🐣 PLEASE NOTE: We are still new to Hipcamp and are offering this spot at a discounted rate in exchange for your feedback and kindness. Please help us build this into a great camping experience to be enjoyed by everyone.
🚲 We are located directly along the Schuylkill River Trail, a beautiful nature and biking trail that spans more than 75 miles across Pennsylvania. Bring your bicycle, or simply go for a walk through the endless expanse of beautiful forest in the region.
🏝 Feeling adventurous? Take your kayak or canoe to our private island in the middle of the river to feel the ultimate seclusion.
🪵 We have prepared a moderate amount of firewood for our guests, and there are more than enough downed trees throughout the forest around the camp area that you may cut as well. You are welcome to cut branches and trees that have already fallen in the forest. Please do not cut any living trees.
🛤 We are located near an active train line, so you may hear the low rumble of a train a few times during your stay, but because there are no road crossings nearby, you'll never hear a horn.
🐜 Keep in mind, this is a riverside forest. There will be bugs! You may find some mosquitos along the trail on your way to the camp, but generally we have not had any issue with them at the camp itself. Bringing bug spray is advised.
🍽 You'll be a 10-15 min walk from at least 3 restaurants, an 8 min walk to Wawa (24 hour food and toilets), a 12 min walk to Redners (full size grocery store), and a 15 min walk to Klein bus terminal with routes to NYC and Philadelphia.
🛻 Coming soon: Vehicle access! We are working hard to bring you van and truck access directly to the riverside campground. Wake up to a beautiful sunrise along the river in the comfort of your own vehicle. If you’re feeling adventurous, ask us about beta testing our access road. 4x4 experience required.

Lovely site, we had a great time swimming in the river and hiking around the nearby French Creek. 10/10 recommend!

We loved camping at this site! As other reviewers mentioned there was a short walk to the site so it helps to pack light. Shane’s instructions were super clear and easy to follow and we would absolutely stay again.
Getting to the location was a hassle but other than that the experience was amazing. First time camping and it was beautiful to be in front of the lake.

My husband and I and our dog Louie had an amazing time. This site was exactly what we were looking for. Louie was off leash all four days. We took our little paddle boat out, we fished and waded in the water. Bugs weren’t bad with spray. Ticks were tiny and we found at least one on each of us. Super fun waving to the occasional kayakers going by and listening for the next train coming around the bend. Already booked a visit in the fall.

Shane’s spot was such a blast! We will definitely be back! It was very secluded and private. You will hear trains and some people kayaking by. But they are far enough away not to disturb you.. It is the perfect spot if you have a pet. Our dog loved getting in the water.

To start, beautiful location. The pictures matched up and it is very secluded and private. A short walk to wawa as well. There was a lot of firewood too which is always a plus. A great nice view of the lake and overall a really fun time.
I happened to do this trip solo and somethings to keep in mind if you are doing this solo as well is that the trail from parking lot to campsite is about 10-15 minutes (as said in description). I under estimated this and had to do a few trips back and forth to unpack the car. If you are car camping and running solo, definitely travel light (or enjoy the walks and have them build character). Shane was super nice enough to send me what was needed to beta test the access road however I decided against it cause my car wasn’t a 4WD. They are working on getting an access road all set up so when that time comes this will be a perfect car camper for sure.
The only other thing to prepare for is the train tracks in the middle of the night. Very loud cargo trains will come and go at very odd hours. Nothing that can really be done for that, just mentally prepare for it.
Big plus, Shane provided a website of directions. It took a sec to figure out but once I got to the campsite I didn’t need them again. Very easy and accurate in direction telling.
Overall, highly recommend this campground. It was a lot fun and a very beautiful place to go especially for a newer listing on here. Thank you so much Shane! Can’t wait to comeback

Beautiful, well equipped camp sight with great views and offers a good dose of rustic camping while still having access to a bathroom at the nearby Wawa if you need it.
Picnic tables and firepit where great and when we were there at least, lots of pre-chopped firewood was available.
Be prepared for train noise overnight and kayakers passing through on the river throughout the day.
We had a tent and two hammocks and were able to find good spots for all three around the area.
Very puppy friendly. She didn't want to leave!
Overall, would highly recommend and camp there again.

It was a really cool and Serene isolated location, yet very close to stores and the town.
Definitely a nice spot, and the host was super helpful and attentive! Very easy to find everything, and it was all as described. There’s a lot of space to hike around and enjoy the river there, I’d say if you have a canoe or something definitely bring it along! I love the Schuylkill river trail so that being nearby was cool as well. Will be booking again sometime!
