Camp Blackbird is a secluded 28-acre property located along the border of Beltzville State Park in Lehighton, PA. The campsite is surrounded by trees and is a 3-minute walk from the 949-acre lake. Walk a short ways to swim or sit along the lake. Miles of hiking trails for you to explore from your site. You are not on top of other campsites and the state park does not allow overnight camping. There is one other campsite 250-feet away. We ask that you are respectful of your neighbors and keep loud night time noise to a minimum. We ask that your neighbors show you the same consideration, ensuring a serene experience for all. The campsites are ideal for people looking to unplug from it all and become one with nature. This is NOT the place for partying.
We'll give you a map so you can see where to take a short walk to get to the lake. There are miles of hiking trails a few minute walk from your campsite. Beltzville Lake is a great place for paddling. The boat launch is just a few minute drive from Camp.
In addition to the beautiful immediate surroundings, we are centrally located near many exciting destinations. Year round activities at Blue Mountain Resort, adventure on The Appalachian Trail, fine dining, biking the rail trail and white water rafting in Jim Thorpe, all within a 25 minute drive.
The property is not suitable for parties or events. The area is a QUIET ZONE. Ideal for people looking to unplug from it all and become one with nature. It is teaming with wildlife and is ideal for birding. The hosts mission is to disturb wildlife and its habitats as little as possible.
VERY IMPORTANT - NO PARTIES or unregistered guests on the property. There are other campgrounds in the area that are great for people who want to party.
We welcome pets. Please add your photos! Especially of your dog camping!
There are two good spots for tents that are rather flat. If you are sleeping in a tent, we recommend bringing an air mattress, cot, foam pad or extra blankets to put down on your tent floor. There is no part of the property that is perfectly flat and without stones so bring something to sleep on top of. If you are sleeping in your car, we have extra wood at the site for you to drive onto if you pick a spot that is unlevel. We allow small pop up campers or camper vans. For an extra $20, we provide electric and water hookup. Please select in extras.
We, the hosts, live on the property about 700 ft from the campsite. We try to have minimal interactions with the guests to ensure privacy and personal space but we're always reachable.

All around ideal!
Site #1 was so ideal, we can't wait to return! Oct 2021, we were five campers (couple of dogs) in three tents, three cars, and there was plenty of space to spread out. We lounged in hammocks, and gathered around the campfire for meals, went for a walk into the adjacent state park and scoped out spots to chill and swim come summer.
Having wood close by, plenty of fresh water plus a spigot to wash up, and a very agreeable "comfort station" (portojohn) made everything so easy.
Site #1 was close enough to hear the other family, so that's something to keep in mind, but wasn't so disruptive that it was a big deal (we tried to keep it down as well). This is one of our favorite campsites we have found so far, and we can't wait to come back!
Great campsite!! strongly recommend
My buddy and our 6 year old sons and I stayed at Camp Blackbird this weekend. He was coming from Philly and me from NYC and this was a perfect et meetup spot. The site is clean, has plenty of firewood and water and more than enough room for both of our tents. There were campers at Site 1, but we never heard or saw them. The hikes around the water were very pretty. We had a beautiful weekend of live fire cooking and hanging out in the woods. I would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone in need of a forest bath getaway!
Camp Blackbird is awesome and loved the environment. It was relaxing and a good escape. Can’t wait to visit again. The host was very friendly and they made sure we where set up for a good time. Fresh drinking water available and the Porta potty aka the time machine 😂 was very clean.
Pocono mountain camping oasis
Seclusion and convenience are often mutually exclusive, but not so at Camp Blackbird! We enjoyed a perfect family holiday weekend where all the normal challenges of camping were minimized by the thoughtful planning and preparation by these hosts. Firewood? Dry and stacked. Electricity? Accessible. Water? Both 10gal of fresh drinking water and a ground water tap are provided so there is never a lack for any task. Bathrooms? The cleanest port-a-john I've ever encountered. Add all this to a location that boasts drive-up access with a flip-flop walk to the lake shore and no other humans within hearing range, and you've got a winning combination that is rare even on HipCamp. Our kids, ages 4 and 7 had a ball! The site itself is clean and level, and while the hosts are communicative and helpful, they otherwise remain blissfully absent, leaving you free to enjoy the solace of nature. Come and enjoy one of the best experiences eastern PA has to offer.
We liked this spot so much, we went back and stayed there again! Love it - private, in the woods, walking distance to the Beltsville reservoir. Plenty of drinking water and firewood, great places to hang a hammock. It was a delight.
Camping with amenities!
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful spot in the woods (Site 2). It was nice to have all sorts of "extras" at the site - toilet, water spigot, drinking water and an abundance of dry firewood. I was able to carry my paddleboard to the lake from the site. A bit of a workout to get it to the lake and back, but certainly worth it. Such a nice quiet spot to go for a paddle. Nice swimming spot as well. Being that it is so close to home, we will certainly be returning at some point.
Camp blackbird is a special place.
We had a short but enjoyable stay. The atmosphere is even better than the photos can convey. We stayed at site 2 and enjoyed the early dusk under the thick tree canopy. Owls serenaded us while we relaxed around the campfire. The “chill spot” on the lake is magical! We hope to come back soon.
Great place to car camp!
We had a great stay at Camp Blackbird! Directions were clear and it was a really nice space to camp for the weekend. Our site was clear and had enough room for our kitchen set up, large tent and our truck. There was water, a firewood supply, a portapotty, and garbage set up which made our trip convenient and easy. The water access was wonderful, and our lab loved swimming in the river. The walk to the water wasn’t too long either! Overall, loved the space and thankful for the time we got to spend there!
Second trip and still so nice!
Our second time here and we continue to enjoy this site. The place is wooded, quiet, and near a small lake. The hosts are super nice and helpful. We’ll be back!
