We operate a working, active, organically-managed permaculture farm in Perry County, PA that includes sheep, chickens, honeybees, and a vegetable garden.

Perry County is rural with minimal light pollution.  At dusk, you can spot bats darting through the air. You may hear the hoot of an owl or the cry of a fox or perhaps nothing more than the wisp of the wind through the leaves. As day breaks, roosters will greet the sunrise, fog may have formed over the pond and the rolling Appalachian hills will come alive with the chatter of songbirds, woodpeckers, or squirrels chirping at their new-found forest friends.

Our pond is home to largemouth bass, some weighing in about 5-pounds and measuring two feet casting ripples across the surface as if to taunt the curious fishing folk.  For the lighthearted fishing folk, there are pan fish dancing along the shorelines nipping at bugs on the water's surface. At its depth, the pond reaches about 8 feet with gentle sloping to the outer edges and includes a shallow wading pool area for young children.  (Note: during dry spells the pond water level is known to drop and minor algae blooms can occur--we aerate and manage the pond organically, we do not treat algae.)

Farm activities are centralized around the barn and market garden area providing privacy to our campsites. A short walk from the campsite will allow you to experience the farm atmosphere, especially Tuesdays and Saturdays during our open farm store hours or special on-farm events. We do move our livestock around the farm regularly. The sheep or chickens may be in close proximity to the campsites during your stay with 2-3 visits per day from the farmers to check on animals and perform necessary farm tasks (morning and evening). We manage our farm organically and regeneratively--there are no overburdening 'farm smells' here. Baken Creek Farm seeks a symbiotic relationship between food production and the protection of our natural environment is of utmost importance.

Pond View site (Site #1) overlooks our half-acre pond and has a gorgeous view of Blue Mountain and the Audubon Society's Waggoners Gap Hawk Watch (<10 minutes drive). This site is located closer to the road than our Oak Hill site, so there is some road noise, although it's minimal at night. This location is also about 250 feet from the nearest neighbor (with some trees in between), so we ask that you keep the volume down after 10 PM. The ground is not perfectly level, but suitable for tents. You have the option of pitching your tent among the trees or in the open field. The campsite is a short walk up the hill, just beyond the pond.

Our Oak Hill Site (Site #2) is located further from neighbors and road noise. It is a short walk from the pond and is located at a level area underneath a majestic oak tree. This site has great views of our entire property and is a great location for star-gazing with no nearby light pollution. You do have to walk up a hill to get to this location from the barns and bathroom area.

We have a fire pit with one bundle of firewood included per night at your site (both site options). Additional firewood is available for purchase or dead limbs/sticks may be gathered.

We have trails around our property that you are welcome to explore. Tours are available for an additional fee. Farm products (i.e. eggs, honey, locally-roasted coffee, veggies, herbs) can be purchased anytime and change seasonally.

Our farm is located about 20 minutes north of Carlisle, which provides great dining options or New Bloomfield/Newport for local farm-to-table fare. We are surrounded by farmland and forests, with three state parks just a short drive away (Little Buffalo, Colonel Dennings, and Fowlers Hollow). Perry County has several historical sites (including many covered bridges), coffee shops and restaurants, and farm stands with plenty of gorgeous views and photo opportunities. We'd be happy to give you pointers!

Occasionally we host special events at the farm (i.e. outdoor concerts, educational classes). These dates are marked on the calendar at a higher rate. These events are not included as part of the Hipcamp guest experience but can be purchased separately if space is still available. We will not be charging extra for these nights despite the higher rate, but reserve the right to hold these dates for folks interested in participating in the special events--PLEASE CONTACT US for details regarding these dates or check our socials. Concerts this year: June 4th, July 23rd, and August 27th. We also have fresh pastured chicken available on June 26th and October 16th.

I really enjoyed my stay a Baken Creek Farm. I would suggest taking a vacation day this week so you can see the baby lambs. This is a definite must do Hip Camp. I lucked out and camped when chickens are available for sale and it was DELICIOUS!!! Site was perfect for my hammock and also has two nice matted tent areas. My site had a huge fire ring two nice benches and a picnic table. You are good with a folding wagon to haul your gear but I would recommend getting the add on for them to haul it to your site. Katie and Grey were great host. They have an awesome home and I am glad they are sharing what they are doing with Regenerative agriculture. This place makes you want to buy a small farm. Bring your fishing rod. I caught five bass!

I knew camping at Baken Creek Farm would be a cool experience but I was not anticipating how rejuvenating and healing it would be! The space is FULL of nature, from ponds to trails to fields and woods, not to mention the animals and food grown on the property. There is something to appreciate at every turn. Katie is an amazing host, so personable, friendly and accommodating. She made me feel right at home on the farm, showed me around the property, shared stories and the history of the area, and made my stay so comfortable. I also had the opportunity to do some shopping at the farm store, and even picked wild berries, garden berries, and a gorgeous bouquet of the flowers grown on the farm. I’m already excited to return with some friends! I would recommend Baken Creek Farm to anyone looking for a unique, rejuvenating and educational camping getaway!

Katie and Gray were wonderful hosts! They gave us a detailed tour of their beautiful farm and enthusiastically opened up their farm store off hours so our girls (8 and 5) could poke around at the farm produce and hand-made local products. We also got to spend time with their sheep and chickens! We stayed at Site 2, which is really private and has excellent views, and backs up to a massive pasture, whose lovely bovine residents visited us both nights. Lots of space all around, and the site includes a fire pit and picnic table. Be sure to pack long pants and boots for all!
