This working horse farm is such a breath of fresh air! There are so many horses there and they are so well cared for and loved! Brett stopped by as we first pulled in, gave us the overall gist of things and offered help if we needed it. We felt safe and had plenty of space to let our dogs run around. The people who board there as well as work there were so kind and welcoming that we felt like we were part of the community.We would definitely stay there again if we come back through there!

Leila’s spot was great. We loved that it was only a block from the beach. The shed storage and laundry machine was helpful- especially because of the humidity and moisture over night. It was hard to get clothing dry without a dryer. (We used a laundromat in town) The black tank hook up was not threaded to secure a connection but it still worked. Red tide was high while we were there. Overall it was a beautiful spot just steps away from a beautiful dog friendly beach. We loved the location and so did our pets. Would recommend!

I loved camping at this location. First, I travel with my dog. So, the fenced in yard on three sides was nice. It was open and spacious. Plenty of space for larger RVs. Mine is a small teardrop and the lot could have held a much larger RV. The hookups were easy to use. and on the right side of the lot. So, you back your RV into the spot. Then, you have lots of space in front of your RV for set up of tents, TV, grill, etc. Now, let's talk about 'why' you would choose this spot. It is a very short walk to the beach. I made that walk three or four times a day. I went in November. So, the beach was empty and the weather perfect for both football and relaxing. Plus, Shipwreck Raw Bar is close if you want to eat out instead of grilling. I will definitely stay here again!

Very well, kept with a beautiful scenery, the fact that there’s only three campsites is really nice as well so you don’t feel overcrowded. The firewood, being chopped and ready for you for $.50 a log was awesome. Beautiful sunrise, and sunset, I highly suggest you try to stay up just for a little bit because we were able to see a ton of shooting stars.

We loved camping at Sweetwater Daze River camp! The grounds were very well maintained and setup was a breeze. The river was beautiful, and the atmosphere was peaceful. We had a great time hanging out by the river with a nice fire and watching the stars at night. But the best was going with Jay on a river tour! He has so much local knowledge about the river and the surrounding area. The places we got to see were stunning! So be sure to ask him about his boat tour, you won’t be disappointed. This is definitely one of our favorite camp sites, we will definitely be back!

Private campsite in the middle of the city! My family and I were lucky enough to find a four acre urban forest less than two miles from FSU, the Florida Capitol and downtown Tallahassee. And just a mile from midtown! We are welcoming tent campers to come experience camping in an urban forest. The camping area has a hot water shower and sink, and the main site (#76), is fully outfitted with fire ring, tent pad, fresh water, a picnic table and plenty of hammock trees! The camp area has space for up to 6 tent campers and 2 cars. All sites share the shower and sink areas and a port-o-potty that is professionally cleaned weekly. Sprinter style vans (UPDATE) - We successfully had a Sprinter Van on the site and have now started accepting booking for that style van. Due to limitations on space and clearance, we can only allow vans with a max of around 10 1/2' tall and 23' long. This is equivalent to a Sprinter 170. We can not fit RVs or extended wide bodies conversions. Pets: Pets on leashes are allowed on the property. Guests with aggressive animals will be asked to leave.

About

Covering 567,00 acres of the Florida panhandle, this national forest is the largest in the state. The vast, wet lowlands are home to haunting cypress, blooming magnolias, and soaring longleaf pine, as well as alligators, black bears, and white-tailed deer. Hundreds of miles of trails, ranging from short jaunts to long-distance hikes, run through the forest, including four Florida National Scenic Trails. Many are multi-use, allowing you to mountain bike and horseback ride. With over 700 lakes and ponds, there are also opportunities for canoeing and kayaking.

Notable campgrounds

Best for RVs: Wright Lake Campground can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 60 feet.
Best for seclusion: Camel Lake provides a quiet place to relax next to crystal-clear water.
Best for paddlers: Porter Lake offers primitive camping and access to the Ochlockonee River Basin.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations are required at Camel Lake and recommended for Wright Lake.
Reservations can be made at the Florida State Parks website or by phone up to 11 months in advance.
Porter Lake sites are on a first-come, first-served basis and are closed during hunting season.

When to go

Apalachicola National Forest is open year-round. The wettest months of June through September are best for canoeing and kayaking, but heat and mosquitoes are prevalent at this time of year and can put a damper on hiking, which is more pleasant in spring or fall. Some campgrounds are open only from May to October.

Know before you go

Some recreational activities, such as ATVing, require a pass or permit.
Secure food and be aware of black bears throughout the forest.
Pets are welcome, as long as they are on a leash and stay out of swimming areas.
