Romantic glamping down by the river
Wow! Felt like something straight out of instagram photo. Incredible location, very romantic, amazing hosts, just truly wonderful. Tent was huge, queen size bed super comfy, solar lights beautiful, grill outside worked brilliantly, pit toilet and instant hot water shower rustic but very clean, awning very useful in rain with great picnic table under cover, fire pit down by the river with roaring log fire when we arrived. Super!
Such a lovely place to get away. The cows were such a joy to watch. Was greeted by Robert to see if we had any questions and he showed us around. We will definitely be staying there again! Only downside I'd say is a noisy machine going on most of the day across the river. Don't know if that is a reoccurring thing or not, but it was going both Friday and Saturday.
A cozy weekend getaway
My friend and I loved our stay at Wanderlust. There were so many thoughtful touches! The shower was so hot and wonderful, the solar powered lights were useful and cozy, and Robert came by in the evening to drop off a heater for us - which really came in handy at night and in the morning. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and we both really loved looking at the beautiful Longhorns while we relaxed at camp.
Artistic touch & frolicking calves!
Mooing cattle and a running stream lulled us to sleep. We were situated above a river with a path to the stream just a few steps away with a stream side bench and fire ring. Bird watchers take note; there was lots of bird activity right outside the tent. Host Bob can fill you in on his longhorn cattle breeding program - fascinating! Don't be deceived by the plain appearance of the canvas tent - inside it is decorated in a fun cozy boho way and is furnished with a bed and linens that are very comfy. Bob informed us his wife is the one who decorated, she clearly has an artistic touch and eye for detail. Make sure you get the lowdown on the solar lights before dark. The outhouse, a short walk from the tent (also with solar lights), is a nice set up keeping the boho theme, it was very clean and not bad for a vault toilet. The water tap is outside with a bar of soap provided- nice touch. The hot shower was available but we did not use it during our one night stay. If you'd rather not get your drinking water from a hose you can bring your own supply which we did. Watching two calves chase each other and butt heads, yes they frolicked, was an added treat.
Well, I made 2 reservations so it’s letting me leave another review… my first was a positive review of 9/10… not a 10/10 because of the loud shotgun sounds on Sunday evening that did not allow us to relax, which is why we escaped the city in the first place.
…. and then I got a SUPER defensive host response, focusing on one tiny part of my very honest review (that was positive and was still recommending folks stay there) and I need to point some things out…
1.) We did NOT ask for a refund, nor do we want one… so I’m not sure what the hosts are talking about there. We even left them a little “Thank You” note with some “Thank You” beers.
2.) We did not complain about the sign. We simply mentioned that it is there. (Nobody fears your silly sign… it’s just that, it’s silly… so I pointed it out. And nobody said you don’t have the right to keep and bear arms. The funny part of all this is; I’m actually armed ALL the time too… but I don’t wear a t-shirt bragging about it.)
3.) The only “complaint” we had was the loud shotgun noises & industrial noises that we heard while trying to relax… literally the only things listed in the “cons” part of my first review.
4.) I still recommend staying here just know that there will be loud noises that disturb your relaxation and clearly the hosts are VERY sensitive and easily triggered.
We had an awesoke stay at the Wonderlust! Robert was very accomodating and brought us a heater in case we needed it because it is starying ro get chilly out!
We were right by the river and it wqs nice and secluded....woke up to the beauty of the longhorns. The site was clean and had everything you need and more. Nice hot shower outside. Great stay and would definitely stay again if in that area!!!
9/10 would recommend
What a beautiful and magical place but nothing worth dying for, as the sign warns as you come in (they’re armed and they let you know).
Pros: includes everything you need (except food, dishes), beautiful surroundings and wildlife… just magical for real
Cons: shotgun sounds on Sunday evening and industrial farm noises on Monday mornings
What an amazing site. Covered picnic table to protect us from the rain while we enjoyed the view. Greeted by Bob upon arrival. Delivered us wood and fire starters. Spent a lot of our time fly fishing and caught quite a few little cutthroat trout, one big enough to keep and have for dinner!
A hot shower after a week of camping was such a treat! We can’t wait to visit again. Thank you for all of you thoughtful details.
