***Akitaaru Homestead was named one of 2023's BEST PLACES TO PITCH A TENT. Thanks to all of our campers and to Mother Earth for sharing this beautiful place with us humans! *** We run a small active homestead with livestock, gardens, dogs, and free range children. We are happy to share our five acres of beautiful PNW forest with intrepid campers Learn more about this land: Have you ever wanted to have an entire campground to yourself?  Planning a romantic getaway, private group trip, or getting your feet wet with your first trip of the year (or ever!?) We have got the perfect place for you! Camp on the edge of Forest Park and sleep underneath an evergreen canopy of Douglas fir and big leaf maple. We have one large forest glade with room for several tents. We book only one group at a time, so you are guaranteed the place to yourselves. We can accommodate up to 12 people, with a max of 4 vehicles (parking is tight). The campground features:  -Fairy lights strung among the tress to create the perfect magical ambiance -Large fire ring with cooking grate and seating for two -Newly built "glampy"  composting latrine (commune with nature!) - A huge clearing with multiple flat tent spots -1/2 mile of trails with hidden surprises - A parking area suitable for car camping or van camping during the rainy season. -Only 20 minutes from downtown Portland, 15 from I5, and minutes from gas and groceries *COMING SOON* Giant disk swing and swinging loveseat Parking is separate from the campground! It is a brief but steep 1/4 mile hike to get to the main campground and latrine. Bring hiking shoes and pack light. It takes most people 5-15 minutes to hike up, depending on fitness level and load size . If you want to car camp, you will be next to a road and separate from the latrine and fire pit. Enjoy several short trails on the camp's property before heading to Forest Park's Wildwood Trail, which is just up the street, or check out all of the incredible natural and urban nearby attractions in Portland. We are about 20 minutes away Portland's International Rose Test Garden , The Oregon Zoo, and Pittock Mansion Or just swing lazily in a hammock under the trees and enjoy the sound of the forest coming to life. Inquire about a tour of the homestead and the chance to play with our tiny herd of goats who think they are dogs. The main campground will be all yours. It includes the fire pit, latrine, and room for 3-5 tents. You will be surrounded by forest on all sides. It is private and dreamy. The homestead will be down 800 ft below you, but far enough that we shouldn't hear each other or see each other, especially in the summer when the foliage has grown in. You likely will hear our chickens in the morning.

Akitaaru Forest Camp
30th bday w/ a fullcourse dinner
I love how magical this place felt. I booked the site to celebrate my birthday where I wanted to camp and cook a full-course dinner for friends. The site provided just the most amazing scene when golden hour hit, the sunset beamed through the trees and eventually turned pinkish orange with clouds in between, and stringed lights illuminated the site. The trek up is steep, but very do-able and short. I brought a LOTT of stuff and to my surprise, it worked out just fine. Bathroom was clean and quite nice for my friends, water from taking the snail trail was rather easy and accessible, my dog was able to roam freely on the campsite with no worries, and the provided picnic table, bench, and grill for the campfire was extremely helpful, the ground showed no problems for pitching a tent, and then there's the little cute decor placed around the site. We had no issues parking or finding the place with the descriptive instructions. Moriah was also soooo sooo great at communicating that you'll have no issues. Would definitely recommend this site.

Lovely stay
We enjoyed our stay at this adorable campsite! We felt very safe even though it is so close to town! These hosts have done an amazing job, it truly felt like a fairytale and was very clean and well kept. The steep trail is so worth it once you’re up there. We really appreciated the speedy communication from the host!

We will be back!
We loved this camp site! Our 2 pups enjoyed romping around as well. The site has room for a group of campers. It was the perfect first camp site for the year.

Akitaaru Forest Camp
Tenting on Moriah's property was an absolute delight! The spacious camping area provided ample room for a comfortable setup, and the attention to detail was impressive – from well-maintained trails to thoughtful additions like a bear box for food storage. Exploring the surrounding trails uncovered delightful hidden surprises, adding an extra layer of adventure to the experience. The warmup hike to the tent spot was invigorating, setting the tone for a memorable outdoor retreat. Moriah's property truly captures the essence of a perfect camping getaway. PS: we loved visiting the Nigerian dwarf goats prior to departure.

What a lovely place!! Totally worth the hike up the hill! They really thought of everything! The hanging lights were awesome to have and the composting toilet has the best view! Got to meet the farm guardian, the lovely Odessa (their Great Dane)!
