Welcome to Yurtle by the pond. Nominated best Glamping structure in Canada.
Located on our beautiful 97-acre property, “Yurtle by the Pond” is a newly constructed glamping structure made from hemlock trees that were sustainably harvested from this forest.
The bunkie includes a small deck and awning with large windows. There is a futon pull-out bed, solar light, and soft candle lighting. If you are bringing more than 2 guests, you must bring tents as the bunkie only comfortably fits 2 people (there is plenty of space to pitch your tent around the bunkie). The custom made wood stove heats Yurtle nicely and guests stay warm and cozy during the cold winter months.
The site can be accessed by a traditional car, no off-roading or 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed. We are a family-friendly (including pets!) campsite. Campfires are permitted and we have a picnic table for you and your group to enjoy your meals.
The property is a certified managed forest and is a bird watcher’s and nature lover’s paradise. We have miles of flat groomed trails and a 3-acre pond (plus several bush ponds). Humans do not live here.
Shopping and all amenities are under 15 minutes away! The property is close to Georgian Bay for swimming, fishing, boating/sailing, paddling and beaches. We are also close to the cities of Orillia and Midland/Penetanguishene for dining, shopping, arts, and many historical sites. Historical sites include Fort Ste Marie Among the Hurons, War of 1812 British Naval Establishment, Kings Wharf Theatre, Martrys Shrine, Huronia Museum and more.
Firewood is available for sale @ $7/bag of hardwood. Please DO NOT import/bring firewood, the risk of transferring an invasive insect is not worth it. We are inclusive, tolerant and respectful of all campers and wildlife and expect the same behaviour from our guests.
Directions will be provided after booking. There has been much confusion with google maps for this site. Yurtle is in Tay Township not Tiny Township and I would be happy to help clarify any difficulties that may be encountered.
I look forward to hosting you and peace be with you!

The host was really good and communicative. The property however was not up to the mark for the weather as there was extreme heat and mosquitoes in the weather didn’t help either. However those small qualms aside, the experience was pleasant.
I just had a wonderful stay in the yurtle. It is very cute amd cosy, and well-constructed - there was a torrential downpour last night and not a single drip inside. The property is stunning and so peaceful. Dave is a great host with extensive knowledge of the forest and local history. He was very responsive and stopped by every day to check that all was well. The bags of firewood are very generously sized, completely dry and a great value for $7. I will definitely be back!

Everything was wonderful, from Dave greeting us and directing us, to the beautiful woods surrounding the Yurtle, the soft lighting inside, and the campfire we had in the evening! The Yurtle was the perfect temperature inside with the lovely wood stove. It was a gorgeous day so we were able to walk around the property with our pup, and then enjoy some food at the amazing picnic table Dave made! Dave was an amazing host and this was a lovely, albeit short getaway. Highly recommend checking out the Yurtle!

Dave was a great host, very attentive. The cabin was warm and cosy and had everything we needed.
We had a lovely, relaxing stay.
The little yurtle was very charming and cozy. Dave had everything set up very well and was very accommodating and determined to give us the best stay possible! Huge props to Dave on building the entire property and the site. It was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Definitely will recommend the yurtle to other friends and family who are looking for a nice cozy cabin in the forest

We had a great time at Yurtle by the pond!
DAve was super nice and the property was beautiful
Would defiantly go again
We had the best time in Dave's yurtle this past weekend. We have wanted to winter camp for some time and this place is perfect.
We snowshoed around the beautiful forests surrounding the yurtle. It is so quiet and peaceful, a wonderful place to reconnect with nature.
The yurtle had everything we needed to have the most wonderful time. The wood burning stove kept the yurtle nice and toasty all night.
The next day we visited Dave's farm, got some fresh farm eggs and also visited his military museum.
Dave is a wonderful and kind host, he cares very much about nature and everyone's wellbeing.
If you love the outdoors, any weather, then you will have a fantastic time on Dave's land.

First off, the yurtle which was hand built by Dave is adorable and placed so perfectly in the woods. I was able to drive right up to it as he had the snowy road and trails cleared immaculately.
Waking up to the forest view from the huge window was truly amazing. The wood stove worked hard throughout the very cold -28C weekend and Dave was quick to bring more wood and check on me regularly. Note, the firewood he provided was sustainably harvested from his own land and was amazing quality for the stove. I didn’t have to fight with it not even once to keep it burning (which is a first in my cabin/camp rental experience).
Feeding the chickadees from my hand and walking the trails through the forest were wonderful.
A wonderful peaceful retreat and I can’t wait to return

I must humbly admit that I do not control the weather, either extreme cold or heat. Central Ontario experiences wide temperature swings from day to day and season to season. I choose to accept and embrace the day and season that I am in. FYI- I sat on my dock beside the ponds for three hours on May 30, 2022 and did not put insect repellent on, but was bit by two mosquitos. Cheers and peace.
