Come camp with us, under the BEAUTIFUL FALL COLOURS here at the Farm. This is the second of two Hipcamp sites available on our property and is a traditional "bring your own tent & camp supplies" Campsite that is nestled under a forest grove of Pine and Maple trees, and sits near the edge of our horse pasture in our small Maple Sugarbush on our 6-acre family hobby farm. The site is nicely shaded and moderately secluded from farm life and neighbors.
Our property is located on the very edge of the Canadian Shield, therefore most of the landscape is slightly rocky, rugged, and naturally wooded. But it is NOT densely forested with thick undergrowth, and thus has open visibility throughout the Maple Sugarbush, [including distant visibility of the other campsite -Canvas Glamping Tent-] on our property, and our neighbor's homes.
However, the property has a "park like" feel, to it, with numerous short & looping, walking trails that meander throughout the Sugarbush, pasture area, 3 season pond (ie; it dries up during June, July & August) and our farm animal "homes". These trails are perfect for short nature walks, where you'll experience natural wildflowers, see and hear songbirds, small animal wildlife, and of course, farm life too.
We are also located on the edge of the Eastern Ontario "Dark Sky" Area, which means we have a very nice view from the edge of our pasture of the North Sky stars on a clear night, with very minimal light pollution.
We are a small working "hobby farm", therefore we have a small, but varied collection of farm animals, and gardens. We have lots of chickens, (including roosters who crow in the early morning hours) 2 miniature goats, 2 horses, a couple of barn cats, and a dog. During your stay with us, you are welcome to come learn about and interact with our animals and daily farm life, if you so desire. (farm fresh eggs and maple syrup are also available to purchase).
Campers should also be aware that we live in a rural area, and NOT a wilderness area. So it is NOT "wilderness quiet" here, but it IS countryside quiet. We are in close proximity (hearing distance) to a local 2 lane highway that does produce minimal background traffic noise during the day, but is almost non-existent of noise at night, we have neighbors, and we have farm animals that make noise and produce "smells", but.... that is the "Charm of the Farm" :-)
There are also many local options available for recreational activities and visiting historic sites off the property. We have 2 local lakes, with swimming and boating options, (7 min drive). Biking and hiking areas, including the Cataraqui Trail, the K and P Trail, and the Rideau Trail. All of which are within a 10-minute drive of our home. Frontenac Provincial Park is a 25-minute drive away, with more rugged interior day hiking trails.
Local resturants, gas, grocery and drug stores are a 5 minute drive away.
And finally, the nationally historic City of Kingston, (aka "The Limestone City" ) located at the head of the St Lawrence River at the end of Lake Ontario is home to many historic sites and museums such as; Fort Henry, RMC, Queen's University, CFB Kingston and the infamous Kingston Penitentiary, AND is only a 20-minute drive away. You certainly will not be bored or lacking things to do and see both on and off the property.

Had a great time!
I had a great time staying at Lisa's. The outhouse was such a luxury. Lisa and her parents are super nice. They were patient to introduce their livestock and property. I particularly loved the firepit! Lisa's fresh maple oat bread is so soft, and sweet. You don't have to add anything on it!
Just make sure you bring earplugs as the roosters will wake you up early. 😂
First hipcamp experience! loved it!
I have no complaints about my experience at Black Maple Farm: Pine Grove Site. The campsite exceeded my expectation and was described accurately. The host went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable at the campsite. I would highly recommend this campsite to my friends if they were ever in the area! Thank you for making my first hipcamp experience a memorable one!
Great mix of forest and farm!
Had a lovely stay here. It's a unique mix of forest and farm, with horses in the distance, goats you can pet, and the (I think wonderful) occasional smell of horse manure. There's a really nice outhouse and sink with soap and a towel, and they provide tons of drinking water for free. There's space for about two tents without using the path, though note that they aren't entirely level/clear, and the site is shaded. You can hear the highway, but you can also hear goats and chickens and the wind through the trees so I didn't mind. Hosts were really friendly and generous. They even lent me a portable fan for my tent during a heat wave!
I only found three cons to this site:
1) There's quite a bit of poison ivy around. Most is off the trail or down by the horse pasture; however, there are some small ones on the campsite itself around the picnic table, though I mentioned this to the hosts and there are plans to reduce the poison ivy. (Since there was a sink with soap I just washed my feet/ankles a few times when I thought I'd stepped in some.)
2) There are two sites on the property and they aren't very private from one another. Privacy from the farmhouse is great: You can't even see the farmhouse from the site and only see the hosts when they come down to feed the animals, clean up a site or drop something off for you, but if someone is at the other site (the glamping tent) (which thankfully was empty while I was there), you can clearly see each other through the trees, and could easily hear each other's voices, though perhaps not hear what was actually being said. There was a bit of discussion about putting up a barrier in the trees between the two sites to help fix this, but at the moment, if you want to be really on your own this might be an issue.
3) There's nowhere to swim within walking distance. (The pond in the pic dries up in the summer.) But I think the addition of the animals and being able to visit the goats made up for this. :)
Definitely would stay here again.
BlackMapleFarm was much more than expected. Upon arrival we were shown the property and our camp site by Lisa's wonderful parents, my kids loved the animals. Lisa had a beautiful site set up with firewood and overall it was a wonderful experience.
Weekend getaway at black maple farm
My girlfriend and I had a great weekend experience on Lisa’s farm. Her and her family were very kind, accommodating and generous. When we arrived at their farm, the campsite in their maple bush was clean and had wood and clean drinking water ready for us. The animals on the farm made the experience a weekend to remember. Horses who really enjoyed the carrots we brought along, dwarf goats that greeted us like small friendly dogs, and all the chickens/roosters you could imagine shared their property with us for a great weekend getaway. Would highly recommend as a great beginners camping experience that could be shared with family or a partner.
Great camping site, excellent host!
I enjoyed a night at this lovely spot. Most fireflies ive ever seen! Sadly i got in late and had to leave early the next morning. Lisa was great, and had firewood and 5 gallons of potable water waiting for me at the site. Would definitely stay again, and higjly recommend. Plus, who doesnt love tiny goats!?!?!
Enchanting forest farm
We loved our stay at Lisa’s farm! The campsite was extremely well maintained and everything was beautifully set up for us when we arrived. Lisa introduced us to her chickens and goats (too adorable) who kept us company overnight - we even got to take home some fresh eggs. I would definitely recommend the site and we can’t wait to return.
