After you take the few minute walk down the Wild Blackberry Trail the Deer Hollow Camping area is on your right before the path comes to a T. (The Wild Rose campsite will be on the left.) It's a large open campsite bordering a prairie area that's filled with native plants on one side and on large eastern red cedar on another. The site is partially shaded and the other part is open to the beautiful night sky.
You have access to the tranquil Wild Rose Pond just down the path where you can swim, fish, use your SUPs, canoes, and kayaks, or just kick back and enjoy the view. We often see herons and eagles there, as well as many other birds and animals. Surrounded by wild roses on most sides that provide a shower of white flowers in spring, it’s a small pond that varies in height, but generally no higher than 6ft at its deepest. Relax around the fire pit with the picnic table, hammocks, or camping chairs located on the shore of the pond. Along the path to the pond there is also a compost toilet with hand sanitizer available. This is a community area so if we are doing farm tours there may be passers by or if the Wild Rose Site is rented by another group there may be others coming and going. Because of the proximity to the highway (which makes for easy access to the farm) there is road noise, but it does taper off significantly during the evening and overnight hours.
Our farm driveway is conveniently located right on highway 82, but the farm is nestled behind some other properties and not directly on the highway. Within one mile there is a Dollar General, Cowboys (convenience store with discount groceries, gas, propane, and a deli), Table 5 Diner,, Bob's Mini Mart, a dispensary, and more in the town of Peggs if you need supplies. Spring Creek is nearby and is a great place to wade or fish. Tahlequah is 20 minutes away and is the capital of the Cherokee nation and has museums, parks, casino, and plenty of shopping venues and restaurants. The Illinois River is also there which is a great place for rafting and recreating.- Check in: After 3PM
