The campsite at Winking Forest was quite nice. The site had a great fire pit and the firewood provide was generous. The wood chips and picnic table were nice touches and the outhouse is truly an outhouse not a porta jon, which is a nice touch when camping. The shelter they built is very nice, but that made trying to pitch a tent near the fire a little tight, but it worked for our four person and three person tents. Camper beware though we had hickory nuts dropping on us the entire time as there are large hickory trees at the site. There also was more poison ivy immediately near the camp site than I cared for. As other reviewers suggested the neighboring dogs bark loudly and constantly, that did get old for the second night we were trying to sleep there. Also on our second night I was awoken to people talking loudly somewhere not very far away at exactly midnight. I found that a bit concerning as there is only one campsite at this location. Perhaps it was the owners or a neighboring property, but the site is away from any houses, including the owners, so it was a bit unnerving as we thought we were secluded. The site had very nice touches, but I don’t know that I would book again.

Enjoyed the clean, tidy, secluded spot with ample firewood. Appreciated the clean outhouse and the shelter. The ferocious barking of nearby dogs though, which was intermittent throughout the night, spoilt the experience for me.

It was a lovely spot, surrounded by trees. We enjoyed relaxing around the fire pit, and our kids liked reading and playing cards in the shelter.

We had a great time staying here, the shelter is outstanding and it's a very nice campsite overall. It's a great spot to explore the area from, and I would absolutely stay here again.

Had a lovely stay at this campsite! The shelter was great and everything was clean and tidy. It was a wonderful peaceful setting to kick back in. Plenty of birds, wildflowers, chipmunks, and toads to enjoy with surprisingly few pesky bugs at night. We did not see a single tick and slept in the open in the shelter without getting bitten up by mosquitos. Also enjoyed meeting the cows in the pasture next door - they all came over to say "hi"!

I had a wonderful evening at this site. The keepers of the Winking Forest Camping and Shelter truly take pride in their space. The site was clean, the toilet very well kept, and the ambiance of the string lights and the farm was charming. I loved hearing the buggies go by. His was my first experience in a community where there are many Amish folks and I truly enjoyed the surrounding community. There was a little noise from pups on neighboring farms barking but it stopped relatively early. They were so generous with firewood too... I would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful evening at a well maintained site. If I pass through the are again I will definitely revisit.

The shelter was amazing! The setting was beautiful and calm - only the occasional moo and birdies for noise, and beautiful views. The site was tidy and the shelter and outhouse were 100% clean and in good condition. It was a real treat to not have to throw up the tents for the night too.
My two friends rode their bikes to the site - totally doable. Expect rolling hills, but not a lot of traffic. They said the views from the ride were beautiful.

I absolutely loved this stay. Perfect time of year the bugs weren’t bad so sleeping in the lean to was fantastic. Well groomed with solid wood for burning all set up. Finely built structure. Cool air and Amish country. Beautiful scenery and friendly people that respect your privacy. What more could you ask for?
