i highly recommend the upper site! we were looking for centrally located to the national and state forests, primitive off the beaten path type of place and baileys nailed it. we enjoy visiting nelsonville and athens so that was a plus too.
we took gravel roads to get there and had no trouble finding ross’ property. ross let us know that his neighbor keith would be helping us up to our site with a UTV. we were greeted by two dogs and a cat, all very friendly. be warned, it is a VERY steep hill up!! it was no problem for us and added to the experience. kieth was great and told us to knock on his door if we needed anything, and gave us hammocks handmade by a buddy of his to set up at the site.
the site is very secluded on a clearing on the too of the hill, surrounded by forest. it has a picnic table, fire ring, a bench and stools. we had the place to ourselves and loved that the campsite is bordered by wayne national forest. the flora and fauna at the site were wonderful. it was very quiet and we were able to stargaze despite it being a somewhat wooded site.
there are currently no “proper” toilet at the top of the hill. there is a porta potty at the bottom of the hill, where you park.
ross is a great host and we loved our stay on his property, and look forward to doing so again!
